Sophia was on her bed, rocking herself. She was trembling slightly. She folded herself on the farthest corner of the bed, her two hands wrapped around her knees, which were drawn up to her chin.
Her hair was a mess, covering part of her face. Her cloth was ruffled, evident that she hadn't gone to shower for the past 3 days. Her eyes were big and wide with fear, evident that she hadn't slept for nights.
She hadn't moved from that particular spot since that night. She had locked herself in and had ignored several pleas from the maids to come out.
She was scared. The thought of Pearl holding a gun, waiting for her to come out so that she could blow her head off, scared her. She couldn't believe it....Sophia suddenly laughed, very loud...
.....She killed him....She killed Dad and what did she say that happened...She wants her dead too???
You'll have to get to me first Pearl. Even if I have to stay here forever, I'll have to.
It looked like the confessions Pearl made that night had turned her off a bit. Now her brain had dried off completely. It was blank. ....She had gone mentally crazy. She had a splitting headache but she ignored it. Tears ran down her eyes. Her lips trembled....but she ignored it.
All that mattered was that she was far away from Pearl. Pearl couldn't harm her.
But who would help her? Pearl had always isolated her when she arrived so no one aside the maids and her school mates, knew she was around. So who could help her.
No one at school really liked her so she couldn't call anyone to come over. And the maids...She couldn't trust any of them.
Who would help her. Her life was in danger.
Then her mind suddenly flashed to that night. The night when Jason had abducted her from the mansion. The night when her sister was going to arrive at the mansion.
The way he had drove off with her and had only returned with her the next day when he was sure the party was over.....when he was sure that Pearl must have left.
He tried to tell her. But her hatred for him blinded her and deafened her against him. She didn't want to listen to him. She hated him because he had killed her father. Though he tried to prove his innocence, she didn't want to believe him. She had snapped at him at the hotel when she couldn't see her sister. She never knew he had actually saved her life that night. And when she was leaving....he behaved so coldly to her. Not because he hated her...but because he knew what she was going to go through when she'd come here. That's why he had told her to be alert....not to trust anyone. He didn't want to tell her that her own sister wanted her dead but he indirectly made it clear to her that someone wanted her dead in the house. She had kept her promise to be alert and cautious but she thought he was being ridiculous about someone trying to kill her.
He tried to protect me but I was too stubborn. I didn't listen.....
Sophia grabbed her phone to call him but..... She freezes, her thumb over the call button.
...What would I tell him?...
'Jason I've been a total fool for not listening to you. I've been a total ignoramus for thinking that all these while you really killed my father. Now my sister is going to kill me if I step out of this room. I need your help. Please come and save me'
Sophia threw the phone aside. Save me??? What the hell was she saying. He probably hates her by now. Besides she was a Pueterico.....would he help her? After snapping at him that way.
Suddenly, she could hear a doorbell ring downstairs.
A visitor??!!
Whoever it was, would surely have to help her. If she stayed in this room a bit longer, Pearl would find a way to come into the room.
Without thinking, she dashed off, already going downstairs when she sees Pearl. She was downstairs already. There was an expressionless look on her face. Sophia felt her heart pound against her ribs.
"Go back to your room" Pearl said, emphasizing every single word.
"No" It took all her will power to say that single word.
Suddenly she looked back. Henry was right behind her. He had a menacing look on his face. She gasped as his hand curled around her arm. His grip was cold and harsh.
"...Common princess. I'll escort you back to your room"
She struggled with him fruitlessly. "Let me go"
She looked at Pearl and could note a hint of fear in her eyes. Why was she scared all of a sudden? What was she hiding?
"...The more you struggle, the more you'll get hurt. Go upstairs. I have a visitor and you're keeping him waiting at the door"
Sophia elbowed Henry from behind and as Henry leaned back to hold his nose, She moved swiftly, missing Pearl's grip by a slim chance.
With tears in her eyes, she opened the open and gasped with her last strength.
".....Help me or my sister will kill me..." Then she fell against the person, limp.
Benjamin held Sophia in his hands. His face was pale and angry as he looked at Pearl. She was standing there trembling.
"....Ben. It's not what you think...."
"Really? So how long did you think you'd keep this away from me??" He bellowed at her. Pearl shook in fear at the anger in his voice. Her legs became weak at that instant and she fell to the couch.
