Chapter 36
Alitha's POV
"Should I be happy?" I averted my gaze and looked outside the window. I felt his hand in my back and held my waist. He squeezed the left side of my waist and lean closer to me.
"I missed you. Don't you miss me?" His sweet voice lingered in my soul. He was whispering and suddenly kissed my earlobe. I closed my eyes because of the tingling sensation it brought me.
"Niko." I protested. I controlled not to shout at him. After what he did, he will do this? He left me without saying anything and told me those fucking words. "Stop." And now he's acting like he misses me?
He abruptly stopped kissing me and slowly looked at me. He sighed and lean on his chair. He never talked again and so am I. We were quite and distant from each other.
I did not know where we were going. It's dark outside and I was not familiar with the road. But later did I know that we're entering the we entered a narrow road. I just saw that we were in the woods. It was dark and only the car's light illuminated the surroundings.
I turned to Niko and frowned when I saw him staring at me even in the dark. "Where are you taking me?" I suddenly asked.
"In a place where we can't be followed." He said softly and still continued to stare at me.
"What do you want from me?" I don't care if his friends will hear us.
"We need to talk. I couldn't reached you that's why I abducted you instead. Don't worry we will just talk."
I frowned and looked outside again. I wondered if Alec already found out that I was missing. Why were the bodyguards he left with me so clumsy? Niko and his friends were just teenagers and yet they could not protect me.
"How did you fight them?" I was wondering so I asked him.
"We gave them sleeping pills."
"What?!" He just shrugged. "How did you do it?"
"That was Cedrick's idea. I went inside, fortunately, they did not noticed me."
That explains why. We traveled for a long time until Niko dropped us all off. The towering trees and grass on the side of the road opened up to us. In the middle of the forest stood a cabin.
A small house but enough for twenty people. Outside there is a small hut and a table in the middle. I heard a rush of water. I can't see much because there is darkness.
"Is there a stream here?" Jigger asked.
"Yes. Tomorrow morning you'll see. Let's go." Niko replied and took my hand to pull closer to him.
I was able to follow his walk because he was dragging me. "You guys stay here first." He turned to his friends.
"Yes, bro. Don't worry." Cedrick replied.
"Whose house is this?" I asked when we could go inside.
"Ours."
"Why is your family has so many houses?" He did not answer me. We continued walking until we reached a wooden door. He opened it and pulled me inside. He closed the door and let go of my hand.
"Okay, talk." He said. I was speechless for a moment and just stared at him. "Why you didn't tell me about your real parents?" In the end, he was the one who talked first.
"It was not my intention not to tell you, Niko. I was going to tell you the truth but you found out first before I had a chance to tell you."
"Was you doubting me? I thought you're going to trust me. You should tell me earlier."
I sighed. Explaining myself for something I did intentionally is somehow baffling. I didn't like explaining myself and my reasons but he is my boyfriend. And I have this responsibility to explain to him the things that's confusing him for us to be okay. Although he didn't promise that we will be okay after I tell him everything. But his actions tend to do so.
"Look, there's this.." I took a deep breath and decided to tell him. It's now or never. "There's this situation that my family was in danger. We were ambushed." I paused when I saw him stunned.
"Luckily, we're okay. No one got hurt but I decided to stay in my Aunt's rather. I hate publicity. Paparazzi everywhere, taking pictures of my parents, following wherever they go including my sister. I don't like that. So I stayed away from them and good thing they let me."
"I don't want people talk about me. I don't want them approach me just because I am the daughter of their President. I want a normal life. No hassles, no limits, I just want to be happy and to live an ordinary life." Until you came..
When you came, everything went extraordinary. My life was okay but when you came, it's more than okay. I wanted to say that to him but I chose not to. I don't want him to think that I am falling in love with him. That it hurts me when he left and chose not to talk to me. But I need an explanation.
"What about you? I haven't heard from you ever since you found out until now." He stared at me for so long. The kind of stare was making me uncomfortable.
"I felt betrayed, you know? I felt small. You lied to me. You let me look like shit. An ordinary guy like me dated a high, an almighty princess now my girlfriend. How do you think I'll feel?"
"No one else knows."
"You made me look like a fool. Tell me, did you laugh at me every time we were together? Were you laughing at me, Ali?"
"No."
"Tell me."
"I said no! I was not laughing at you. I just don't want you to avoid me and I didn't make a mistake. You did avoided me when you found out, didn't you?"
"I avoided you not because you are the precious daughter of the President. I don't care if you are the daughter of the richest man in the world. I avoided you because I was hurt. You lied to me. Is it because you think of me as an opportunist? Do you think we don't have any? Money?"
"Jesus Christ, Niko! I already told you the reason didn't I? That's not what you think it was."
"Then I haven't seen you in weeks. Why did they didn't let you out, huh? Is it because of me?" He gasps in anger. His emotions seemed to be simmering. I was just looking at him. But I also had a hard time. We just met but we are fighting.
"I can't call you. I can't find you. And what are you saying to Glaiza? You don't want to see me anymore but why am I here? Why are you here? Can you please elaborate?"
"I only said that because I wanted to hurt you. Imagine my pride, Ali."
"Pride? That's still what you thought? Didn't you think that I might be hurt because you disregarded me? You ignored me for how many days, stupid!"
He was stunned. His lips parted and unbelievably looking at me.
"Yes. They're not letting me out because of you. They wanted me to leave you. They wanted me to broke up with you. They did not want me to see you anymore even though I said we're over. We're done. Funny, isn't it?"
He shook his head. He raised a hand sign that he was stopping me from speaking. He shook his head again and his jaw clenched.
"Repeat the last thing you said." He whispered controlling his madness.
"Funny, isn't it?"
"Fuck! That's not it!" My eyes widened.
"That's the last thing I said."
"I said, that's not it."
"Which one? That we're done?" He hissed.
"We're not done yet, Alitha!"
I mocked at him. "When you stopped calling me, when you ignored me, I decided to end the relationship between us."
He crossed the distance between us. He grabbed me by my shoulders and held me tightly. "No! You can't! Have you forgotten? That matter will depend on our decision. You have not consulted me yet, Ali. So forget that fucking nonsense!"
I pushed him. "Let go of me!"
"No! I won't and I will never let you go." I looked at him. I stared at him when his eyes lingered into mine. The seriousness in his voice, the firmness in his tone and the hint of sadness made me coiled in turbulence of emotions.
"Why is it easy for you to let go?" His voice became weak. He loosen his grip on my shoulders. His eyes full of sadness unbelievably glared at me.
"Why was it easy for you not to see me?" I could sense my voice was full of pain. He freed me. He looked down and harshly brushed his two palms on his face.
"If only you knew what's that fucking thing I've felt! You don't have any idea how I was on the days you were not with me, do you?" He stepped back and looked at me again.
"That's not a fucking thing, Niko. It's emotion and not just a thing." My chest was panting when I said that. Doesn't he even knows what to call that feeling? Is he that stupid?
