Chapter Fourteen

After Mariaisabelle tells him everything, the man accepts her with open arms. His reaction makes the woman kiss him again. Mariaisabelle then goes over how they are meant to be. Her warm happiness surrounds the two as her words fill the space. Once she is done, the farmer stays silent.

Mariaisabelle's superficial mark of stability represents her wants to be in a stable relationship and family. The four-sided diamond is one of the most stable shapes. It is also speculated to represent the earth. Which is the most stable element.

The fair lady now knows that she has found it with the farmer. Images of them working on the farm and having fun days with all eight of them starts emerging in her mind. Mariaisabelle is excited. She cannot wait for them to be together.

"We cannot be together, Mariaisabelle," Emerenziano whispers. His statement shatters Mariaisabella's foreseeing images. The warm aura surrounding them has been replaced with the reality of the cold night.

"What do you mean?" Mariaisabelle questions. She cannot believe what he is saying. After telling him everything, she thought that he could understand.

"I want to be with you, I really do. But your mother will not approve. She is a good friend, and I do not want to hurt her by being with you," Emerenziano explains. It isn't her, rather it is their circumstances.

Mariaisabelle tries not to take Emerenziano's rejection to heart. But she can't help it. The woman, with blurry eyes, gets up and storms back to her home. Leaving the man behind in the blue night.

Three days go by and everything seems to be back to normal. Mariaisabelle is sawing at a long plank of wood. She is sitting outside the barn. Emerenziano went out to sell his feeding cows in the market, which left Mariaisabelle enough time to think.

She is determined that they are perfect for each other. Her old life at the castle feels like a distant dream instead of a memory. Mariaisabelle is willing to adapt to farm life. It wouldn't be easy. But she is willing to do anything for Emerenziano.

Speaking of, the man approaches the fair lady. She assumes that he will repeat the same thing from those nights ago.

"We can't be together, Mariaisabelle," Emerenziano repeats. Mariaisabelle tries to ignore him and continues sawing. But after another minute, she gives up and decides to finally talk to the older man.

"You keep saying that, but I won't stop pursuing you. Why are you fighting it? I know you want to be with me too." Mariaisabelle demands. The woman is stubborn and she demands t get what she wants. Emerenziano tries not to sigh. Of course, he wants to be with her.

But the farmer believes that Mariaisabelle can do so much better. However, he doesn't want her to know about how he is actually feeling.

"Your mother wouldn't approve," The man says with an unconvincing voice. Mariaisabelle scoffs and rolls her eyes. The fair lady is not an imbecile. She can see through the excuse.

"Please be honest, Emerenziano. My mother has nothing to do with us. What is the real reason that you don't want us to be together?" The question hits Emerenziano. He rubs the back of his neck before finally answering honestly.

"I had to endure the loss of a wife. I don't want you to suffer the same pain when I die. Besides you can do so much better with a wealthier man," Emerenziano admits. Mariaisabelle sighs. Of course, it was about his age. She did not care about that; it just hurts how he was rejecting her. She gets a hold of Emerenziano's right hand and places it over her heart. She looks straight into his eyes and tells him how she feels.

"Do you feel my how my heart beats for you? It is because your presence makes me feel so lively. You being scared of my sadness when you die makes me appreciative. But I already lost a child and a spouse. We cannot let the unknown stop our love.

I want is to be with you, and you do too. There is no other man that I want to be with, and I can tell that we will be great together," Mariaisabelle's heartfelt admission makes the farmer smile. Emerenziano cannot do anything as Mariaisabelle stands in front of him. The fair lady then closes her eyes and leans closer. Without a second of a doubt, all the thoughts leave his mind. And he fills the space with an adoring kiss.

Finally, the farmer and the fair lady are together.
