Scarlet pov
I was a little taken aback by his sudden outburst. It was not the first time when people had seen me as devil or witch or villainess. But this was the first time anyone has called me grim reaper on my face and truth to be told, instead of being angry I was feeling amused by the way he was looking at me.
"If you want to save your life, you better reply to me properly and obey my every order.'' I said in an authoritative tone and the man nodded his head.
He was looking so innocent that I wondered how such a naive boy even existed till now without being sold! But then I remembered he was sold and I was the one who brought him! But then why!
"So, to start with, tell me, why have you been sold?" I asked and he blinked as if his hazy mind cleared a bit by being reminded of the fact that he was sold to me now.
He gritted his teeth as he replied, "my friend asked me to accompany him to take some loan as he was afraid to go to a place like that. So, I accepted. Who would have thought that he was keeping me as a pawn. Not only that he ran away after taking the money. And since then they were trying to capture me and sell to cover their losses."
"So, I was right!" I nodded my head in understanding when he tilted and looked straight into my eyes.
'Did he not know that slaves could not look towards their masters. Let alone staring deep into their eyes! Maybe he was sold in just a day or two was the reason of his lack of discipline. But then there was something in his almost silver eyes. They were looking too ethereal! I had never seen this shade or eyes! Wait! Weren't his eyes blue when I had seen him last time? I looked at him in confusion when I heard him speaking.
"About what?" a smirk formed on my lips listening to his foolish question.
"I was right that you are a foolish person! Dumb enough to go by yourself to be sold." at last I even chuckled when the kid glared at me.
"Do not be angry, kid. There are not many like you in this world. So, you are one unique foolish kid.`` I replied again with a smirk, controlling my laughter.
"Kid! I think I am older or equal to you." he said looking at my face carefully, "or you really are a witch whose face did not show his real age?" he asked with horror filled eyes.
"Tsk tsk.. I have to accept that you have the most vivid imagination of all the other people I have ever met! Wasn't I a grim reaper just a moment ago! I was talking about your mental age, you are no more than five years old from that!." I commented and he gritted his teeth when a smile again formed on my lips.
But then I felt the curious eyes of Caleb over me. Only then did I realize I was laughing for the third time in a few minutes. It has been years since I last laughed genuinely. Mostly my laughs were filled with sarcasm or killing intent. And all these smiles came because of this little kid!
Of course, after all his naivety was a thing to laugh about.
"My lady, shall we start the carriage again?" asked Caleb, looking at me, still with strange expressions when I shook my head.
"No, we will take a break here and eat our dinner." I replied and opened the door only to see the coachman almost getting hit by it. In so many years of serving me, he still did not learn that I did not need a man to open the door for me.
"Can't you see before walling?" I complained as my voice turned colder again and the man bowed his head.
"I apologize, my lady."
"Tskk. always apologizing yet never learning to change. Then what is the value of your apology?" The man shivered and kneeled that instant but I was not in the mood to see drama. So I ignored him and started walking.
I was sure that Caleb would make sure to bring that kid behind me. And soon I heard the sound of a chain, which was still attached to that kid's body.
I walked into the inn that was the nearest. It was the inn that belonged to count Theodore. I just wish he was not here to spread gossip. Not that I care, but his incessant talking irritates me to no end!
Looking at me the staff bowed and opened the private room for me. I sat down on the chair comfortably as I looked at the bustling town from the window. Caleb came forward and took a seat in front of me and behind him stood the kid!
"Hey kid, What is your name?" i asked when i realized that i did not even know the name of my benefactor.
"My name is Evans." he replied in a low voice, but it was still lacking respect.
"From today onwards, I am your owner. You will do what I say without even thinking and you will follow my every command without speaking a single word in return. Do you understand?" I asked but the kid did not speak a word or respond, he continued to stand there as if I was not talking to him but to the walls that irritated me.
"I am talking to you, are you deaf too?" I asked as I stood up from my seat and walked towards him. He took a few steps back without even noticing that he had no way out. In the end his back hit the wall!
"Why did you not reply to me?" I asked as I pulled his chain, making him stumble.
"I was just following orders. Didn't the mistress say do as I say without speaking a word in return?"
".........."
