Evans pov
By no means could I understand what the woman was thinking. She was so unpredictable. I almost had a heart attack when she told me that I was her partner for tonight.
The way she changes her decisions, I could not fathom what her next words would be.
And then I was sure that she and his majesty were not on good terms. The way flames were releasing from their eyes when they were looking at each other. If i did not know that the flicker minded woman was invited, i would have thought that she was there to kill his majesty and he wanted to do the same.
If that was not enough to raise the tension then that lewd lady. The way she was looking and behaving, I had a doubt that she was from a high class brothel. Though I respect women a lot, I prefer that they respect themselves too and behave in an appropriate way.
I could not explain how happy I was that we are finally going back, away from this suffocating place.
"Evans, there is something I need to tell you." her words rang the danger bell in my mind and my heartbeat reached.
"Yes.. yes mistress." Although I did not know what she wanted to say, I could still feel the fear creeping in my heart.
She looked at the distance and I followed her gaze, but there was nothing except the trees. The night was dark and the road was deserted since we were still within the boundary of the royal palace.
"You will not work in the stable anymore. You will be my personal aide from tonight. And if anyone instructs you to do anything or go anywhere, you will deny.
Your reply will be you only serve me. I repeat you will only listen to me and only serve me and stay around me all the time." the way she was saying those sentences, she was looking worried.
As if the matter was of deep importance. I could not understand why I was feeling goosebumps all over my skin, yet I nodded.
She nodded back and entered the carriage. I looked straight ahead to start the carriage to leave this eerie palace.
The whole time it felt that someone was following us, but whenever I turned back, there was nothing to be seen.
Maybe it was my fears that were acting up. I only took a sigh of relief when we crossed the boundaries of the royal palace and the knights started following us.
I felt so exhausted just by riding the carriage that I took a long sigh of relief when we reached the palace. This was the first time I was feeling better after coming here.
"My lady." I did not understand why the knights were looking so distressed and worried all the way.
"You may all go and rest. I am tired too." they all looked at each other and then at her with hesitation but in the end nodded and left.
"Evans"
"Yes, my lady."
"You will be present in my chamber early tomorrow morning." Her authoritative tone made me nod involuntarily.
"Yes, my lady." she looked around with that sharp look on her face and left and I sighed.
I was going into the mess deeper than I had thought.
"Evans."
"Oh, Jasmine, what are you doing here?" I smiled at the girl who was walking towards me with a kind smile. She was the only one who treated me nicely here.
"I heard the sound of horses, so I came to see you. You must have been hungry. Those nobles ate by themselves but forgot to ask the servants to come with them.
So, I have kept some food for you." i wanted to tell her that the lady had not eaten too but refrained. She must have ordered food in her room by now. Why was I worrying about her when she was the owner of the estate?
"What happened? Did she mistreat you there?" she asked with surety, and I thought again.. Did she try to mistreat me! I didn't even know how she was trying to treat me there, but it was not misbehavior at least.
"No, I am just overwhelmed by the presence of so many nobles." I admitted honestly and her face softened.
"I understand. Come let's go to the kitchen and have dinner, it is already past midnight. We have to wake up early for work tomorrow." I nodded and followed her.
The candles of the kitchen were already blown off and the area was looking too dark with only the light coming from lanterns that were hung in the distance.
"Here," she offered me the bread and the sauce with milk.
"Have you eaten dinner?" she nodded when i asked her, yet she came to give me company when she could have rest. I felt grateful to her while she just chuckled.
I kept waiting for the chef to come and cook something for the lady, but no matter how slowly I ate and how much time I spent there, no one came.
"What happened?" she asked, looking at my troubled face and I shook my head.
She took a sigh as if she had read my thoughts, " are you still thinking about running away from this place?" my eyes widened as she asked me the question blatantly. I was sure I had never told anyone about it.
"Your emotions show on your face quite clearly. But why do you want to run away? This place gives you a roof, food and all the other facilities. Though there is always the risk of losing your life. But you will be fine as long as you do not cross the path of the lady.
But if you still want to run away, I can help you."
