Something is cooking

Scarlet pov

I woke up before dawn, as that girl would be coming soon.

I stretched my body and walked towards the balcony. It was the best place in the entire palace. The sparkling lake could be seen from here and so at the entrance of the palace. There was no maid in my room as I did not like their intrusion all the time. Finally the smell was normal, there was no stench of strong magic in it.

Taking a deep breath, I turned only to find Evans was standing there.

"How did you enter?" I looked back at the door and then at him. I did not hear his footsteps at all.

"Umm, my lady, you have asked me to be here before you wake up and that i will serve you from today." he replied as he scratched his nape, afraid that maybe he had heard wrong or i had forgotten him.

"I mean I did not call you." I elaborated, which I rarely do. Mostly Caleb and Aurora understand me even when I did not say much.

"But my lady. Didn't a attendant spend all the time following his mistress. So that she did not need to call him when needed.'' I frowned at his choice of words. I did not remember anyone following me all the time ever.

"Wouldn't it be tiring?" I tilted my head and he blinked. Then a bright smile formed on his face that was brighter than the sun that was shining in the sky.

"It is our responsibility to do so, my lady. Shall I bring your breakfast or shall I ask the maids to prepare for your bath. Or would you like to take a walk before that!" I narrowed my eyes at his over enthusiasm. The boy who was running away from me and calling me devil yesterday, why was he suddenly so eager to serve me?!

"I would have a bath first." I replied only for him to nod and run out to call the maids.

"Hey, move fast! Her highness has been waiting for so long!" I heard him shouting at the maids and before I could even move a step further, he came back running to me.

"Do not call me that!" all the nearby maids flinched at my cold and sharp voice but the boy stood right there as if he could not feel the change at all.

Was his mana stronger than my prowess!?

"Pardon, your highness." he bowed his head but confusion was clear on his face.

"Do not call me your highness. I am not the duchess!." I snarled and he shivered and nodded his head without any reply.

After taking a bath , I entered my room again. He was keeping an eye on the cleaners. There was something wrong with him.

"My lady," he smiled brightly as he looked at me again.

"Shall I bring your breakfast in the dining room or would you like to have your breakfast in the garden? It is a bright day today."

"Here would be fine." I cut him before he could give me any more suggestions.

"Yes, my lady." he ran again with hurried steps.

"My lady, shall we teach him basic manners of the palace and how to behave around you." asked Clara as she combed my hair but I shook my head.

"Let him be. But make sure that he did not create any trouble." It was not like I wanted him to work anyway.

"Yes, my lady." they all continued to bow their heads as they never had the courage to look straight at me.

You all may go now." I stood up only to see him entering with the food trolley alone.

"Yes, my lady." all the maids left and came again he looked straight at me and passed me that cheerful smile making me frown.

I decided to ignore him for now and test him in the battle ground.

I sat down on the chair while he laid the breakfast on the table and then stood behind me.

"What are you waiting for?" I asked and he blinked again. I signed at his cluelessness. Did I make a mistake by denying Clara to teach him the basics?

"I apologize, my lady." came the chef running. His whole body was covered in sweat and his breaths were shallow.

"This young man took the breakfast without informing me. I am innocent, my lady."

"What! I have asked you if the food is ready to be served before taking it from there." came the quick reply of the man who glared at the chef.

"Yes, but you did not tell me that you are taking it, it is not your duty then how am i supposed to know you will drag it just like that."

"Enough both of you." Why did I feel that he was trying to torment me with his acts? If he was! He was getting successful in his plan, I could already feel the headache forming.

"I.. I apologize, my lady." finally realizing where he was standing, the chef came running towards the table and took all the dishes on a plate and started eating.

"Here, it is your turn now." he passed the same plate to the boy who was looking at everything with a frown but mimicked the actions of the chef and tasted all the dishes in the meal. Once both were done the physician walked towards them and checked their pulse.

"Everything is fine, my lady." I nodded and started eating my meal silently.

"Go and ask Clara to give you the suit of Caleb and meet me in the training ground in half an hour." I wiped my mouth and stood up to walk in my office when I did not hear the reply.

I turned to look at the boy who was frozen at his place.

"I.. i do not know any of the techniques of combat my lady." he replied in a scared tone and a smirk formed on my lips.

"Then you can be my punching bag."
