I did not know what to say. The girl was looking at me as if I was trapped. I turned to look at her mother, hoping that she would explain to the kid that I should not do that, but she nodded.

"We owe you this much. Run away! We will explain your mistress. You will not get this chance everyday. If you need, I can give you all the gold coins she had given to me that day." and before i could deny, she looked at her son who nodded and ran in the house and soon he came back with the bag of gold coins.

"Take them and run away. We will handle your mistress." she urged me as she handed me the gold coins. I shook my head. Had they all gone crazy? How could they even think of going against the duchess?

"Do you know that my mistress has saved all of you?" I tried to explain and she nodded.
