Ding!

The elevator slowly creaked open, revealing three individual dressed in black robes with their faces covered by the robe's hoodie. The two individuals standing in the front cautiously filed out as the third individual followed behind with rickety movements.

One of the figures in front glanced at the dent in the door of apartment 441 and frowned as he grimly stated, "It seemed that something did happen here. The spirit in me is giving off warning signals, but I can't tell what is causing it. Stay alert."

"Pshh~ Look at you Jessie, being so cowardly when the investigation mission barely began. Comon! The mission stated that as long as we don't go to the stairway, the most powerful spirits we will encounter will be baleful spirits. We are both level one mystics! What could go wrong?" a man's voice came from the black robed individual standing besides Jessie as he took off his hood and took a deep breathe of air, "Freedom~ why must we wear these clearly suspicious robes anyways?"

"Fred, be serious. This task was commissioned by the elder. Although the rewards are trifling for those mystics ranked above us, it was in the end a task that was intended for them. I had to pull some strings to snatch it, but that means the danger level is very high for us. Of course, the trifling rewards are also a hefty reward for us," Jessie reprimanded as he waved his hand to push open the door to apartment 441.

The duo then watched the door topple over and fall to the ground. Thud!

"Remember, the task description even suspected a possible invasion from a foreign demonic spirit! We can't be too careful when dealing with that level of power, even if we are official mystics. I'll stay hidden in ghost form, you send your puppet out to take point," Jessie reminded Fred before he gradually faded away.

"Always taking my poor cutie as a meat shield," Fred rolled his eyes and grumbled unhappily, but still commanded, "Go Doggo!"

Hearing Fred's command, the third individual walked forward into apartment 441 with rickety steps. After sending his corpse puppet to scout the area and discovering no danger, Fred then confidently stepped into apartment 441.

Glancing at the messy, empty room with cracks all over, Fred frowned a bit while muttering to himself, "Huh? What could have the power to cause all of this?"

Hoping to find some clues, Fred then carefully checked the rooms while he had his corpse puppet stand guard. After searching the bathroom for a bit, Fred turned around and saw someone standing behind him, causing him to jump back in fright and activate his yin claw.

After calming down, Fred cursed, "Jessie, can you stop silently appearing behind me like that?"

Jessie stared back as he replied in a gloomy voice, "Get used to it."

Fred rolled his eyes as replied, "I'll never get used to it. I might just accidentally smash you in one day."

"Do it ... if you can," Jessie coldly replied before commanding, "It seems that there are no clues here. I'll go explore the locked rooms with ghost form, you do the one with unlocked doors."

Then, Fred watched Jessie disappearing into thin air once more. Fred grunted a bit in dissatisfaction before he continued to search the scene.

Outside, a black robe floated down the hallway, leaving a trail of dissipating black mist wherever it glides through. Jessie was now searching the hallway for locked doors that he could investigate. It wasn't long until he found his target, apartment 444.

Although nothing was discovered in apartment 441, Jessie did not lower his vigilance. With a thought, his finger nails grew into short, sharp claws and a glow lit up from beneath his hood as he activated his yin yang eyes. He then cautiously entered apartment 444 by crawling on the ceiling using his claws.

Glancing at the empty, bright, and clean living room, Jessie frowned in confusion as he wondered if there was actually someone living here. As far as he knows, a spirit tends to prefer dark, dirty environments.

With a hint of caution, he crawled forward to investigate. It didn't take long for him to reach the center of the living room. Seeing the apartment still as silent as before, Jessie floated down from the ceiling and lightly landed on the ground.

Switching back to physical form, Jessie then deactivated his short climbing claws and activated a set of yin claws. He then cautiously stepped towards the bathroom where the yin qi was the heaviest.

As Jessie approached the closed bathroom door, a claw suddenly popped out through the door and slashed down at Jessie! Jessie swiftly raised his own yin claws to defend.

Clang! With a loud sound resulting from the friction of two clashing metallic objects, Jessie felt a strength beyond what he could handle coming from the enemy claw! Jessie felt a stinging pain on his wrists as he watched his yin claw artifact getting knocked out of his left hand!

However, Jessie managed to buy some time to retreat with this small sacrifice. With a roll towards the front door, Jessie dived out of the way as a man, embraced by black mist, pounced through the wall and smashed his claws into his previous location. Unfortunately, it was not the end of the attack!

Seeing his enemy pouncing on him at a speed faster than he was capable of escaping, Jessie swiftly switched back to ghost form as he abandoned his other claw. However, he realized that was a mistake when he saw the man's evil grin. Within moments, the claws still managed to give him a couple of deep scars on his ghost body!

Jessie decided to fight back with his ghost powers. He floated up after which he opened his mouth to spew out a cloud of green smoke!

Seeing the green smoke, the man in front of Jessie sneered before disregarding it and decided to trade injury for injuries! To Jessie's horror, his corrosive, poisonous smoke, that can usually melt through both human and even baleful spirits, only damaged a thin layer of skin of the man in front of him!

"Impossible! Could it be ... blood spirit?!" Jessie exclaimed in horror as he cursed inwardly in pain because he felt the enemy's claw chopping off his legs.

Fortunately, his legs were not necessary because his contained spirit actually came with the ability to float, and he could slowly regenerate them with his spirit abilities. Jessie gritted his teeth and ignored the pain as his only thought was to escape.

Jessie locked onto the evil spirit and activated the pin on his robe, causing a light to strike the spirit. Without tangling further with this powerful enemy, Jessie glided towards the door, intending to escape immediately. A blood spirit on the lower layers is enough information to report back for completing the mission.

Unfortunately, the protagonist of this story was not Jessie. It is Pro, the man who is hunting Jessie. So, how could Pro let his prey escape?

Dashing through the door, Pro reached out his hands and hugged the lower body of his floating prey. He then swiftly retreated back into apartment 444, bringing his prey with him! Not only that, his claws dug into the flesh of his prey, even though his prey was in ghost form!

Jessie could only yell in fright as he realized that the hallway was still part of the blood spirit's domain! Knowing that it is more difficult for spirits to affect the physical world, he swiftly switched to physical form to escape from the grip of Pro as he pulled out a talisman, intending to use it.

Seeing his prey escape from his grip, Pro only grinned as he commanded, "Do it."

Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!

Gunshots echoed from the kitchen as multiple holes appeared on the body of Jessie. Although the user of the gun was a newbie, the close range and stationary target really made it simple for the shots to land.

Since when can spirits use guns?! Jessie watched the bullet shells bounce on the kitchen floor with wide eyes and blood leaking down from a hole on his forehead. The talisman he was about to use slipped out of his hands as his body toppled to the ground, dead.

Pro gave Alice in the kitchen a thumbs up as he praised, "Nice shot Alice!"

Holding the gun originating from the bodyguard, Alice giggled happily as she jumped up and down in excitement, "Master! Alice did it! Alice was able to help master!"

With a smile, Pro switched to physical form and gave the corpse of the BDS member another couple of slashes on the head in order to make sure it was dead.

He chuckled as he watched the BDS member opened his eye wide as an angry, ghastly howl escaped from his mouth. Black mist gushed out from the man's mouth and wanted to condense into a spirit, but Pro didn't give it a chance as he continued to smash away until the mist was smacked into oblivion.

A weak spirit's moan echoed for the last time from within before going silent. It didn't take long for the remains of the BDS member to be absorbed by his domain, leaving three unknown talismans on the ground. Stashing these talisman away in the kitchen drawer, Pro then glanced at the system notifications.

Pro's eyes lit up as he heard the ching ching going into his pocket. Pro hugged the nearby Alice in excitement as he exclaimed, "Alice, we have found a cash cow!"

Alice blinked her eyes in confusion, but seeing that Pro was so happy, she also giggled happily while rubbing her head against Pro cutely.

Letting go of Alice, Pro then stared out towards the hallway with greedy eyes and an evil grin. After all, there is still one more victim waiting to be harvested, and he can't escape even if he wants to.

Fred was investigating apartment 445 when he heard the gun shots echoing from outside. His body tensed as he swiftly regrouped with his corpse puppet.

"What happened? Did Jessie encounter someone with a gun?" Fred thought with a frown.

Cautiously stepping out into the hallway, Fred vigilantly checked his silent surrounding. He held back the urge to call out for Jessie as he knew that he would appear behind him if he was safe. However, since Jessie did not appear even after a while, Fred knew that the bloke may have met with misfortune.

Instead of saving his teammate or investigating further, Fred made the best decision, "Time to go. Let's just report that a human is hiding here and he has firearms."

With this simple thought, Fred dashed towards the elevator with his corpse puppet trotting behind him. The faint breeze from the run caused the hood on the corpse puppet to flip over, revealing a bald head with wrinkled ears, but with no eyes or nose. Its face only had a giant mouth that occasionally opened to reveal sharp, spiky teeth!

Drool spilled out from the mouth of the corpse as it chased behind Fred. It didn't take long for Fred to approach the elevator. Fred was about to breathe a sigh of relief when his surroundings suddenly blurred.

Blinking his eyes a couple of times, Fred found his surroundings returned to normal, but to his horror, he discovered that he was now at the other end of the hallway!

Knowing that the dangerous stairway was behind him and staring at his corpse puppet who had now stiffened in place due being too far from him, sweat rolled down Fred's frightened face as he lost his sense of safety. Without even thinking about his situation, Fred made a mad dash towards his corpse puppet as he pulled out a talisman and activated it, causing a thin barrier of black mist to form around him.

Watching this with his domain perception, Pro couldn't help but mock the man for being an idiot, "If one thinks about it for a bit, maybe they would figure out the trick to the hallway easily, but how many would be able to calmly think in a horror situation?"

Alice pouted behind him as Pro walked up to his apartment door while readying his gun. Sensing that the man had ran past his door, Pro calmly opened the door and stepped out.

Click. Hearing the door opening behind him, Fred's face tensed up in fear as he glanced back. He saw a man walking out from the room, but with his yin yang eyes, he could see black mist embracing the man! The man was an evil spirit!

However, what made Fred's heart shiver was the gun that the spirit held in his hand. His barrier can curses and yin qi attacks, but not physical bullets! If his corpse puppet was nearby, maybe he could have commanded it to block bullets for him, but his corpse puppet was still out of range!

Pro aimed the gun at Fred as he saw his face of despair. Pro grinned as he said, "Although I want to give you a ticket to Toilet Wonderland, it is much less troublesome to send you to Toilet Heaven."

Bang!

Fred failed to dodge the shot as the bullet accurately blew a hole in his head. Fred's body reluctantly toppled to the ground as he dully stared at his corpse puppet while reaching his hand out towards it. His vision gradually faded out as his hand lost its strength and dropped to the ground.

[Host has eliminated an intruder in your domain. Domain is now absorbing the remains of the intruder ...]

ROARRR!

Before Pro could examine the his status, a roar filled with frenzy and craziness echoed in the hallway. Glancing down the hallway, Pro saw that the corpse puppet had torn its black robe into shreds as it began to smash its surroundings with no clear target. A couple of hits just so happen to land on the walls that bordered Pro's domain.

[Warning! The barrier to host's domain has been breached! It will cost 10 life points to repair the barrier. Consume life points to repair the barrier?]

[Warning! The barrier to host's domain has been breached! It will cost 20 life points to repair ...]

Seeing this, Pro couldn't help but curse, "Well sh*t, just like the evil spirit in the spirit medium, the corpse puppet doesn't die after losing its controller. Heck, these cultists are just walking disasters!"

Hearing Pro's voice, the corpse puppet stiffened for a bit before its head twisted over and locked on to its prey. Drool leaked from its mouth as it gnashed its sharp teeth together in excitement. It's time to eat!
