Abigail Romanova's Monologue and death [Nicholas Hawk 2]

I know it was an act to deceive me. But still, I don't really understand how much of it was fake and how much was genuine. Which leaves good psychological damage in my direction that will not be easy to overcome.

I said really dangerous words just now. But still, it doesn't mean that everything is going to be rosy. The real reason I cut off the call was not because I was uncomfortable, but rather because there was a knock on my door.

I finished fitting my clothes. Today I decided to dress like any young college student. Tailored black jeans and green sweatshirt. Ignoring the expensive brands on clothing, this is how a young man you can find everywhere would dress.

It's my first time dressing like a normal person in quite a while. So I am not fully aware of current trends. With my Nike shoes on, I went to open the door to my apartment.

There, a woman my age was standing, leaning against the doorframe, out of breath and with big circles under her eyes.

I was a bit surprised to see her here on any given day. So I say:

─Shouldn't you be working on your research, Chris? -. I speak to her in a familiar tone, expressing in small micro-expressions how happy I am to see her.

It's about my older twin sister, Christina Hawk, or rather Chris.

My older sister, without having caught her breath yet, finds it difficult to answer me:

─I hate... the... stairs... -. So typical of her.

I help my sorry sister carry her bags to the kitchen in the meantime. I make sure nothing is left out. And... wow, this time she brought a lot more things than usual.

There are one, two, three... nine suitcases. I wonder if anyone was helping her bring all of this here. Well, this is how my older sister is usually, with periodic and unexpected visits to take time off from her investigations, she comes to New York up to thirty times throughout the year.

But if it's nine bags... she makes me think more that she was expelled from college instead of her taking time off...

As the physically weakest of the three siblings, Chris spent a good part of her childhood in the hospital. Of course; that was when our father was alive and he himself did the impossible for the health of his only daughter.

Her muscle development was slower than her average, which led to her having to be the protected for the two male siblings. We do not despise her since she is the only girl between us, so back then, John and above all, I spoiled her a lot.

To this day, there are quite a few things my sister can't do on her own, but hey, at the end of the day, she's still my and John's beloved little sister.

After a few minutes, when she caught her breath, Chris was the same as she usually is.

─Who. Nice to see you, Nicki. I had to take the flight at dawn to get here at this time, you don't know how tired I am.

An expert in complaining.

That's Christina Hawk usually, when she's not at Harvard.

─Your room is still as you left it. I haven't cleaned that place once since you left.

─That was in January and we are in March! Why didn't you clean even once?!

─Why... you told me not to. You argued that a girl's room shouldn't be invaded by guys, so I took that as a rule of thumb for this apartment. Although I did finish the laundry for you.

─Ah, well. I can't complain if you did the laundry for me. Just let me rest for today, I'll be here for the rest of the month, so I'll help you with anything you want from tomorrow.

That means I will practically be his slave when he comes back from college...

Although, I am not complaining. She is going to be my slave for the rest of the month, so I will have more freedom to do whatever I want. I just don't have to leave all of her responsibilities to her.

I'm fine with cooking and doing laundry. If she supports me by washing the dishes and vacuuming, then I think it is more than enough to have equal treatment.

Oh.

I almost forget it.

─Chris, what do you say about going to mom's restaurant at night?

Before I go to get my backpack and go to wait for Sophia outside the apartments, I have to ask her. The more people we are, the better.

─Sophie will she go? -. Her question is for a reason. She and Sophia became best friends on our birthday.

I was initially surprised by the speed at which Chris opened up to Sophia. Well, I guess meeting a sister-in-law for the first time was what allowed her to open up more easily. Sophia has surprisingly already won the favor of my siblings and grandparents. Only that of the matriarch of the Hawk family would be missing and nothing else.

I'm a little scared about what will happen when Sophia meets my mother, but hey, I'm going to face that head-on today. I have yet to give him adequate compensation from her.

─Be sure. -. I replied with a small smile.

─Then it's okay. Remember to come pick me up. Oh and Nick, is there something to eat?

─I made a sandwich for my lunch today, but it's fine if you have it since I'm going to Starbucks to eat with some friends today. I left some Chinese food from my dinner last night and there is also curry with potatoes, all in the fridge. Everything is where you already know.

Perhaps it is a bit late to explain it, but this apartment belongs to the three brothers. There are three bedrooms, a bathroom, a living room and a kitchen. My parents' house is where Mum lives alone, but it's not that there is much of a problem if she barely stays at home.

To minimize the number of people that Mom has to take care of when we are all in the city, it was that with my brothers, we decided to start paying for an apartment in which the three of us will live together. That's why Chris came here instead of going to our parents' house.

─Thank you. Your older sister loves you very much.

─You only say that because there is food for you... but ignoring the reasons, your little brother also loves you very much.

─That was very rude.

─I know. Sorry.

─Bring me cheesecake for after lunch! Okay?!

...

Looks like my to-do list for today increased by one. Well. I do not care since it is my sister who it is. If she were a certain spoiled girl I know, she would have to put her in her place but she would still do it.

I went to take my backpack and with that, I say goodbye to my sister:

─See you later. Don't push yourself too hard, Damdam.

─Same for you, Booboo.

I leave the apartment with a smile after exchanging those ridiculously funny nicknames with my older sister. It seems like... I'm really getting quite soft when it comes to my family.
