Chapter Thirty

Caroline’s premonition was of the day after Elton had left the manor. In it her day had started off as it normally had; Caroline awoke late in the morning, Milly bathed, and dressed her, before she had her morning meal. She then spends some time in the garden reading a new novel that she had gotten from the library a few days earlier. She took a short nap before arriving for supper. When Edmond brought her meal in the dining room, he also brung her a letter.

“What's this?” Caroline asked, confused.

“A letter. It arrived for you and the Count dismorning while you were resting in the garden.” Edmond says, as he places Caroline’s bowl in front of her. Curious, she opens the letter. She is soon filled with regret that she did not wait till after dinner. After scanning the letter she collapses to the ground. Elton had been attacked by a pack of wolves on his way to the capital, and he, unfortunately, did not survive the attack.

Caroline lets out a gasp of horror, before she falls to the ground, and loses consciousness. She is taken back to her room, where she sleeps for a few hours, before awakening. After remembering what had happened she becomes hysterical. The maids had to try their best to help her calm down. She eventually cried herself to sleep. She awakes not long after, wanting a distraction, Caroline walks to the library.

As Caroline approaches the door of the library she notices the door is cracked open, and a dim light is coming from inside. She is able to hear two people talking in a hush whisper from the other side of the door.

"Is it done?" The man asks.

"Yes. We got the news dismorning." The woman responds.

What news? Caroline thinks. The only news received dismorning was about Sir. Elton…

"He's dead and gone, he shall not be an issue any longer."

Caroline covers her mouth, she backs up, in to a large decorative suit of armor, causing it to crash to the ground. The door swings open, she turns to run, but she is to late, the two had caught her.
