EPISODE 5: HESITATIONS

After waiting outside the campus for hours, the bell finally rang for the dismissal.

Despite the heat, he was still waiting for her even though he was covered in sweat.

With the good weather, an idea came to his mind.

It's our first day as a couple. I should at least bring her to an expensive restaurant.

Standing in front of the gate, he narrowed his eyes, checking every student walking in the hallway through the exit. Finally seeing Adelaine's face, he suddenly felt excitement with his idea on his mind.

He has so many questions in mind for her and he was really desperate to ask her.

When their eyes met, he smiled at her that his eyes were wrinkled. But he was confused when she didn't smile back and just looked away.

He was suddenly overthinking-- why would his girlfriend ignore her? It's their first day.

Finally, Adelaine was near the exit.

Standing in front of the exit, his eyes widen when Adelaine just passed by him.

Feeling nervous and confused, he turned around and grabbed her hand.

Right when she felt his cold hands, she looked at him with her eyebrows colliding. After looking at him for a second, she let go of his hand.

With the cold situation, Cassidy arrived.

Scrolling through her phone, she saw Travis standing outside.

"Hey! Did you wait for her since lunchtime?" Cassidy asked him without any idea of what's going on.

After hearing Cassidy's voice, Adelaine stopped in her tracks and looked back. She walked towards her and suddenly grabbed her by her bag.

"What? Are you avoiding him?" she asked, worrying about the two.

Adelaine didn't answer. She continuously walked straight. Cassidy was annoyed and let go of Adelaine's grip.

"What the heck is wrong with you!? What's the matter!?"

Adelaine looked back at her with her mad face.

She sighed and rubbed her face.

"I'm suddenly regretting my actions earlier," Adelaine said and looked down with her worried looks.

Cassidy rolled her eyes and scratched her head.

"Just to inform you, I want to be a secret agent, not a lover's problem solver. And don't you dare make me one."

Adelaine ignored her and sat on the road.

But Cassidy couldn't stand watching her friend being too problematic. And so she asked her why.

"Why would you regret what you did earlier? Who was the one who took initiative?"

Hearing the footsteps at the back, Cassidy turned around and all of a sudden, Adelaine was on her feet.

"It's her."

Adelaine's eyes widen again out of shock.

"Why would you regret that? Do you hate me that much?"

The two were bothered by Travis' question and reaction. Adelaine didn't know how to react and what to answer.

"What's that kiss for, then? Are you planning to toy with me now that you know about my private life after checking my background?"

Travis was offended by what he heard from Adelaine. So she is.

Holding back her tears, her chin wrinkled as she tightens her lips together with her eyebrows knitted while glaring at him.

To everyone's knowledge, Adelaine was in a relationship once. But to her knowledge, she was never in a relationship. Rather, she has no idea about herself being in a relationship.

She couldn't hold back her tears which made her clench her hands into fists and turned her back to Travis.

Not getting on her tracks, she told him, looking down on her feet.

"I'm regretting what I did earlier not because of you. I only have one reason." she didn't continue what she was

saying and decided to left.

Travis was left alone with his confused thoughts. Cassidy looked into Travis' eyes-- as if she was trying to communicate with him through their eyes. Then, she followed Adelaine.

After everything that has happened, the three went back to their homes.

Under the dim light, Travis was drinking alone. Having too many things in mind, he couldn't find out which one to settle first.

Drinking his last shot, he suddenly thought of Adelaine's actions in the hallway.

Does she already know who I really am?

Did she find out about my plan?

Does she hate me?

Am I really not her type?

Did she get her memories back?

Thinking of too many possibilities, he tried not to cry but he could feel his tears trickling down his face.

After all that assumptions, he got nothing but pain.

As Travis continuously puts himself in a drunken state, Adelaine and Cassidy were having a girl's talk at their dorm.

Adelaine kept herself in her book, pretending to be studying. Cassidy did nothing but observe her friend which bothered her so much and made her sat beside her.

Cassidy laid her arms on Adelaine's shoulder as she comforts her. Adelaine didn't even glance at her and just kept looking at her book.

Cassidy sighed.

"Why did you do that?" Cassidy asked her with her calm voice.

Adelaine didn't raise her head.

"You're reading the book upsidedown." Cassidy took the book and removed it from Adelaine.

Still, she didn't bother looking at Cassidy. She started biting her nails on her left hand. Seeing Adelaine, Cassidy was pissed.

"Why did you do that!?" Cassidy raised her voice and so Adelaine stood up and shouted back at her.

"Because he made me do it!"

Cassidy was silent with her eyes widen. Her jaw dropped, looking up at Adelaine. She pointed out her lips, looking like a very interested girl.

"Why regret it, then?" Cassidy asked as she stood up in front of her and crossed her arms.

"You may not believe what I'm about to say, but this is the truth."

They sat and listened to each other very well.

"It felt like it happened already," Adelaine said with a serious look.

Hearing those words made Cassidy gulped and avoid eye contact with Adelaine.

"It felt like I already experienced the same thing earlier in the past." Adelaine continued talking about her thoughts.

"It's like..."

-"Deja Vu."

-"Deja Vu."

Cassidy asked her immediately. She looked like a desperate one.

"But, why would you feel--"

"Nevermind."

Adelaine went to her bed and laid down. Feeling everything that surrounds her, she felt her blanket and wrapped herself. She curled up and muttered.

"You're going to sleep?" Cassidy asked.

"Mm-hmm."

"We should at least finish our conversation! You weren't like that before that accident occurred!" Cassidy was irritated as Adelaine avoids her.

Those words made her jump out of the bed. Shocked and confused, she wanted Cassidy to clarify what she said with her wide eyes.

"What...what do you mean by that? What accident?"

Cassidy couldn't look at her. Not knowing what to tell her, she avoided eye contact with Adelaine.

"Cass! What accident?!"

Cassidy looked up and sighed.

Cassidy was about to speak when they heard a loud knocking from outside. The two stared at the door.

"I'll go check." Cassidy opened the door. Unlike Adelaine, Cassidy was just looking down, and greet Travis as if she already knew and expect that Travis will come.

"Hey. I think you guys need to talk."

She went outside and left the two inside the room.

From outside, Cassidy leaned to the door, ready to overhear the conversation of the two.

But she couldn't hear any noise. Not even a sound.

"Are they not talking?" She asked herself, still leaning on the door, facing her face on her left side.

Suddenly, she heard someone talking at her back.

"Of course, they're talking. They're just keeping it low because they know you're listening to them. Desperately."

Cassidy immediately turned to her right side and saw a guy leaning on the door, too beside her.

The guy smiled at her with his teeth not showing.

With his blond hair, thick eyebrows, and long eyelashes, Cassidy was drawn to him. Not having any idea, her eyes trailed down. She could see his blue eyes sparkling with his sharp nose and his moistened-dry lips pouted.

The lower her eyes went, the faster her heartbeats. She saw his neck with sweats trickling down to his chest. She was more amazed when she saw his tan skin and find him attractive with his plain white shirt.

All of a sudden, she didn't think of anything particular.

"So hot." She stood straight without removing her eyes from the guy.

"What?"

Hearing the guy's deep voice-- deeper than Travis', she pulled herself together and looked straight to him.

"What?" She asked confusingly.

"I mean, isn't it hot? Why would you wear pants if you'll just sweat all the time?"

The guy came closer to him with a smirk on his face.

"Should I take off my pants, then?"

Cassidy walked backward as she looked straight into the guy's eyes.

Suddenly, they heard a noise from the room.

"Stop!"

Cassidy together with the guy turned their faces to the door, curious about what's happening inside the room.

The two rapidly run and went to the room.

Their eyes widen with what they saw when they opened the door.

They couldn't help but felt bad after seeing Adelaine.

Her hands were bleeding, tears flowed down to her cheeks with her lips trembling.

They stepped away after looking down the floor. They could see Adelaine's feet full of broken pieces of glass. Her frames, souvenirs, and even her coffee cup were broken, lying down on the floor.

As they observe the surroundings, they saw Travis panting, looking down with a piece of glass in his hands.

With shock and confusion, Cassidy couldn't think properly. She could only hear Adelaine's breathing. As soon as she saw her having a hard time breathing, she immediately looked everywhere for her inhaler but she can't find it. Until she started to panic and lose her sanity, she couldn't do anything but blame Travis.

She went near him, with her eyebrows knitted and breathing heavily, she asked him.

"What did you do!?"

"He's drunk. I shouldn't have brought him here." The guy said as he walked towards Travis.

Cassidy stared at him and asked if he knows Travis.

"He's my friend. He called me and asked me to bring him here. I'm sorry, it's my fault." The guy grabbed Travis' hands and laid them on his shoulders.

The two were about to go out, but Cassidy blocked their way out.

The guy stared at him-- having a hard time carrying Travis.

"You owe Adelaine an apology," she said with her voice cracking.

"Yes, I am well aware of that. But not now, we'll come back next time. They're both having a hard time."

"I didn't know that asking for forgiveness can be scheduled."

"It's not the asking for forgiveness that's scheduled. It's asking for your phone number." the guy gave her a cold smile and left.

Cassidy was out of her mind when suddenly she heard a loud bang. She turned around and saw Adelaine lying down on the floor, unconscious. She rushed to her and helped her up.

Cassidy doesn't know anything about comforting and nursing. But, if it's Adelaine, she's always willing to learn all those things.

The whole night, Cassidy was awake. After cleaning Adelaine's scars, she settled her to a fine bed and made sure that she could sleep comfortably. Worrying too much for her friend, she drank a cup of coffee every time she felt sleepy. She took a nap, but she always checks on Adelaine every time she hears her muttering.

Seeing Adelaine, she decided to take a rest, too. She slept on Adelaine's bedside, holding Adelaine's hands.

The sound of heavy breathing woke her up. As soon as she raised her head, she immediately checked on Adelaine.

"Hey, how are you feeling?" Cassidy asked her as she supported Adelaine to get up.

"My-- my head's spinning. What happened last night?" holding onto her head, she asked Cassidy with her eyes tightly closed.

Cassidy didn't tell her about last night but Adelaine saw the scars on her body. She looked around the room and as her eyes trailed down, she saw the basin with water and a handkerchief. She forced open her eyes when she reflects bandages full of blood. She sat straight and was finally fully awake.

"Cass, what are those?"

Cassidy looked down at what she was pointing out and looked back at her with her swollen eyes.

"What? Did--did you cry?"

Adelaine asked her. Cassidy can't stop thinking about what Adelaine went through last night that she gave her a tight hug with her teary eyes.

As Cassidy was hugging her, she saw a plastic bag full of broken pieces of glasses. She slowly pushed Cassidy away from her as she remembers last night little by little.

When she remembered everything, she jumped out of her bed and looked for her phone.

Cassidy followed her and asked her what's the matter.

"Travis. He was a different person last night."

"Wh-what? What do you mean?"

"He mentioned something. Like what you told me before he arrived last night," she said.

"What did he say?"

"He said...

I had an accident three years ago."
