Before Adelaine crossed paths with Travis, she had a very peaceful and beautiful life. Everyone thinks that she lives the life of a princess. But Adelaine doesn't know anything about her past. Rather like she doesn't know if she has a history.
She's known as a cheerful young lady. She would always ignore the toxic people around her. Disregard all the negativities in life. She would always smile and take things easy, even if she's in a rush and in the middle of chaos.
But at this moment, she wanted to know why Travis' words made her embraced all the toxic and negative thoughts.
"You're not my first, Adelaine."
Adelaine stared at him with her visions blurring little by little because of the tears in her eyes.
She inhaled and exhaled deeply, trying to hold back her tears. She felt her tears trickling down her cheeks. Although Travis could not see her crying, she sniffed and immediately wiped her tears off.
She has no romantic feelings for him. But she doesn't have any idea why she's crying right now. It's as if she felt this kind of pain, but she wanted to forget that pain. Yet, because of Travis, she felt her chest too heavy.
"I--really? I'm glad to hear that, then.", she said, trying to make her voice sounds fine.
"Actually, the reason why I came here...I wanted to talk to you..and, uh...and this thing we have."
"What?"
"I want to--"
She was cut off when Cassidy suddenly opened the door.
Cassidy was listening to them carefully, and as soon as she heard Adelaine saying that she's ending what's between them, she wanted to stop her. And so, she barged in without thinking.
"Cassidy?" Adelaine looked at her with her reddish eyes. After Cassidy opened the door, the room was not dark anymore. Travis saw her eyes and knew that she cried. He knows that every time she weeps, her eyes would turn red.
Cassidy immediately went near them and asked them what's going on.
"We were just... talking."
"Yeah, a couple's talk."
Adelaine glared at Travis, trying to send him a message through eye contact.
Adelaine was desperate. She really wanted to stop all the confusions she's having right now. But for her, it seems like everyone around her wants her to be with Travis.
"Oh, couple talk? Should I go--"
"No, it's okay. We're done talking."
"Hey! You guys! You should quit wasting food! Don't you know that there are many people out there starving?!"
The three looked at the door and saw Calvin standing there, holding the tray of food.
Cassidy laughed as she walks toward him.
"So if we eat that, will they be full?"
Cassidy said, trying to lighten up the mood inside the room. But still, the two weren't laughing at all. Instead, they went out of the room without saying a word.
Cassidy's temper couldn't take it anymore. She was irritated as she watches the two. She rapidly went out of the room, passing by Calvin near the door, and shouted at the hallway.
"Why can't you just say sorry to each other and give it a shot!?" she shouted with her eyes closed tightly and her hands clenched into tight fists.
Calvin was shocked with how loud Cassidy shouted that he accidentally dropped the tray he was holding and fell on the ground. His mouth shaped a circle and covered his mouth with his hand as his eyes widened, holding his breath out of shock.
Adelaine and Travis paused from walking and turned around to look at her. Seeing Cass' face, they were frozen.
Cassidy came closer to Calvin. Her eyes trailed down on the floor and saw the foods scattered. She then raised her head and glared at him.
"You're the one wasting the food! Don't you know that there are people out there starving!? What, are you going to feed them!? Do you have money for that!? You should've just given those foods to them!" she was speaking way too fast because of her anger that made her sound like a rapper.
"What, you're not a rapper, right?!"
"What?!"
"I knew it. You have a short temper."
Cassidy kept glaring at him with her eyebrows knitted. She was angry, and she does have a short temper.
The two were just standing in front of each other when Adelaine came closer to them.
"What's with the attitude, Cass?"
She turned around to face Adelaine. Cassidy's angry face slowly fades away when she saw Adelaine crossing her arms and raising one eyebrow, giving her a sharp look.
"Why are you shouting?" she asked Cassidy.
"I'm so sick of your actions, the two of you. Why don't you just give it a try?"
"We already did. And it didn't work. Because after all, we're just mere strangers to each other!"
"No, you're not!"
Their surroundings went silent. To Adelaine, they are indeed strangers. It hasn't been a month since they met, and she knew that she's way too ignorant when she kissed Travis.
Cassidy's words made her confused...again. She tried processing everything in her mind again, but she couldn't think properly.
Because of thinking too hard, she fell to her knees on the floor, holding her head as she started to feel dizzy.
"You okay?" Cassidy worriedly asked her.
As soon as Travis saw her on the floor, he rapidly ran and went to her.
Travis' face can tell how worried he is to Adelaine right now. He kneeled beside Adelaine and held her shoulders. "Adi, what's wrong?"
Everyone was worrying, but Adelaine's not saying a word and kept holding her head. Until she closed her eyes tightly, lowered her head, and pressed her lips together too tight, Cassidy knew that something is wrong with Adelaine.
"Hey, Adi, say something."
"Girl, at least nod your head. We're worried about you!" Cassidy raised her voice out of worry.
Calvin stood beside Cass and laid his hand on her shoulder.
"Let's give them some time. We should have some time together, too." Calvin said to her and gave her a wink, biting his lips.
"How could you be flirting when my friend's not in a good situation!?" Cassidy pushed him away and kneeled in front of Adelaine.
Adelaine didn't respond because she was focusing on what's running in her mind right now.
Flashbacks.
Memories that don't seem like Adelaine's own memories.
Stranger.
Unknown faces.
Strange memories were flashing on her mind and made her dizzy. She thought that those were not hers. She was curious, so she focused on those memories in her mind. She could hear someone's voice. But it's like she didn't hear that kind of voice, not even once. Until she saw one memory on her mind.
A car is on fire. A guy is lying on the floor, and one girl is crawling on the floor.
Seeing that scene in her mind, she ignored Cassidy and everyone else in her surroundings.
She could see the girl crawling towards the guy. The girl's badly hurt and was too weak, but she kept pushing herself.
Adelaine wanted to see their faces, but she can't. Their faces were not clear, as if Adelaine was reading a novel without portrayers.
She saw the girl trying to reach her hand to the guy.
But that was not it. Adelaine could hear their voices.
"S--stay with...me."
The girl was one inch away from the guy. She kept crawling without worrying that the car might blow up.
The guy seems like a person that the girl cherishes. Until she was with him already, the girl laid his head on her lap. While rubbing off the blood on his face, tears fall from her eyes.
The guy full of scars and blood can barely move any part of his body, but he raised his hand and held the girl's face.
Adelaine saw him wiping her tears.
"Hang in there. They...they're coming for us, hmm?" the girl said with her voice cracking.
The two were starting to get weak, and they could hear the sound of sparks coming from the car on fire.
The guy coughed, and blood came out from his mouth.
Adelaine wanted to open her eyes and stop looking at that bad memory. But she couldn't. Like she wants to see that memory.
"The car's going to explode." the guy said.
"Y--you should...go.
Without me."
Her cry intensified, the girl keeps shaking her head, saying that she can't leave the guy alone.
"No... Let's go together. Come on, stand up. You have to stand. Let's run away together."
Adelaine has no idea why tears are falling down her cheeks. She could feel Travis tapping and rubbing her back, comforting her.
Still, she didn't open her eyes.
"I don't want to pressure myself. I can't make myself suffer anymore."
The girl didn't want to leave the guy alone. At that moment, Adelaine knew that that guy is a precious person to that girl.
Metals from the car started to fell off. The girl can't do anything but cry without any idea of what to do.
And so, she stood up.
The girl started to slowly walk away from him with small steps. She didn't look back until the guy talked.
"Hey..."
The girl looked back. She can't stop herself from crying every time she looks at the guy on the floor, barely breathing. She wanted to drag him away from that car, but she can't even take one step towards him.
Adelaine could see the guy talking. But she couldn't hear what he was muttering.
And slowly, the scene was fading away.
And the only thing that Adelaine heard...
Was a loud sound of an explosion.
For some unknown reason, Adelaine kept her eyes closed even though the scene in her mind was already gone.
For some unknown reason, she felt her own tears trickling down her cheeks. She was affected too much. As if she was the girl that she saw in that memory.
