MEMORY: 40 Kinds of Sadness

I found myself being drawn to sad love songs lately. There was a countdown on the radio that I listen to when I prepare for school in the morning, and there was this song with a pretty melody but filled with hopelessness inside. It’s called You’re Beautiful by James Blunt, and it’s about his love for a ‘beautiful angel’ that he thinks will never be requited.

‘And I don’t know what to do. ‘Cause I’ll never be with you,’ it played like a broken record in my mind.

And that’s when I realized that it was actually easier to memorize song lyrics than the years of the crusades that would probably show up in our World History exam this week.

Speaking of history, if there was one thing that I learned from the wars, disputes, betrayals, and all, it’s that we should learn from our mistakes. The past happened, so we could make the present better. It must be a tough way for us to learn, but as our teacher always said, ‘The enemy of humans is himself’.
