That week went by very fast.
The next thing Lissa knew, it was Saturday already. Now here she is, standing in front of her full-length mirror, struggling to find the perfect outfit for her breakfast date. While fitting on outfit number five, her buzzed with a text from Jace
I'll meet you at Wendy's in about 20 minutes.
She didn't reply, instead she ran around around her chaotic room like a headless chicken, trying to finish getting ready and get going. Of course, she knows it's just breakfast, but still, a girl has to look good, and this is the first time she actually trying to put some effort in.
“Hey Lissa.” Jace greeted when she entered Wendy's. The smell of waffles and pancakes immediately overpowering her senses, almost making me drool.
“Hey Jace.” Lissa made it to Wendy's with a few minutes to spare.
“You look good.”
“Thank you. So do you.” Jace and Lissa looked like twins today. They both were wearing blue. Lissa was dressed in a blue dress, paired with her blue wedges, and she also left her hair down in it its natural waves. Jace wore a blue and white t-shirt with a dark blue — almost faded — jean and a pair of Nike Air 27 C's — also blue.
“So how was your talk with Steph?”
“It was good, intimidating, but good.”
“I was actually surprised when I got a text from you. I was like, wow! I can't believe he did it. I was surprised, really.”
“I told you I was going to do it.” Jace answered smugly.
“I know. And you did it.”
“I did it.” they sat down in a booth in the corner of the diner, and a few minutes later, a waitress came to take their order. A tall, skinny, asian lady with a not-so-friendly expression on her face. She looked like she'd much rather be on a beach, sipping a cocktail, away from society, but, here she was. Waitressing.
“What can I get for you two today?” she asked, taking out a notepad from her apron pocket, and a pen that was sticking out from her black bun.
“I'll have the breakfast special, please.” Lissa said scanning through the menu.
“Same for me to, please. And two milkshakes. Chocolate?” Jace ordered, asking Lissa if she preferred chocolate. Lissa nodded her head at the waitress with a smile, as the waitress put the notepad and pen back into her apron pocket, taking the menus, and headed of into the direction of the kitchen.
After their breakfast came and they had finished their food — which was very delicious — they went outside. Jace had this idea of making the most of the sunny, cloudless sky day.
“How about we head on down to the park and like chill, and talk, or something?” Jace suggested.
“Yeah that sounds great.”
“Cool. Let's go.”
Jace ushered Lissa to this amazing park down the street. They were walking around, watching the little kids play around, andv at some point during the walk, he even bought her cotton candy. The blue one.
“So there's this carnival, going on later, if you want maybe we can like check it out?” Jace asked as they almost reached the end of the park.
“Yeah sure, I'm down for anything.”
Actually this was the first time Lissa was down for anything. Jace just had this way of dragging her out of her comfort zone.
•
When they left the park, they walked down to the carnival, that just about two blocks away from the park. It was becoming fairly dark by that time, and it wasn't cold, but there was a soft, warm, gentle breeze, swirling around, blowing her hair all around her face. Irritated, she took her hair-tie from around her wrist, and fastened her hair in a high ponytail.
Just so it wouldn't be nuisance later on...
“Oh my gosh Jace, look at how big that Ferris wheel is!” Lissa said pointing towards the brightly lit, multicoloured, giant wheel. No way. Lissa has never been to a carnival before and it was amazing that she got to experience this with Jace for the first time.
“You ever been to a carnival before?” he quizzed with raised eyebrows, adorning a playful smirk upon his luscious pink lips.
“Is it that obvious?” Lissa asked with a smile.
“Maybe.” said Jace, as he shrugged his shoulders, nonchalantly.
“Shut up and let's go.” Lissa dragged him towards the entrance — not that he was protesting — on the contrary, he was very much as eager as she was.
“Yes ma'am.” Lissa loved how much Jace made her laugh. She never laughed that much in my entire life, and she watched a lot of comedies. Plus she's only known Jace for a short period of time.
They paid for the tickets, with Jace insisting he'll pay for her ticket, leaving no room for Lisa to protest, and went inside.
They went to the smaller stalls first. At the water-shooting game, Lissa won a tiny teddy, and at the ring toss, Jace won a giant rainbow-coloured unicorn, and Lisa got to keep it. Yay.
“So how did that check up go yesterday?” Jace asked, right after they stopped to get candy floss. Again.
Oh! Lissa totally forgot to tell Jace about the check up. To be honest, she didn't want to tell him. She herself hadn't told the doctor about the problems she was having lately.
“It was ok, nothing major.” Lissa said with a wave of her hand.
“Did you tell the doctor about those headaches you get?”
“Uhm…no. Let's go on the Ferris wheel!”
Jace got the hint that she didn't want to talk about it, because he left the topic right there and took her to the Ferris wheel!l.
“Oh my gosh! This is amazing, I can see everything from up here!” the view was amazing. The lights that were spreading across the city, twinkled as bright as the stars in the sky. Covering everything in a blanket of darkness with shining glitters thrown on top. The full moon reflecting on the water, made it seem as if it was straight out of a fairytale.
It. Was. Breathtaking.
That view didn't last long though.
Although the wheel had been turning around for almost 5 minutes, it wasn't enough. Lissa was silently hoping for a cliché movie moment to happen, where the wheel would get stuck, and they would be sitting right at the top, enjoying the view, but unfortunately, that didn't happen. It was going slow, sure, but she felt like she couldn't take the time to enjoy the view.
“They should make those things go slower.” Lissa said once they stepped off the wheel and started walking towards the exit.
“Why?” Jace asked, stuffing his hands in the back pockets of his jeans.
“So that people can enjoy that view a bit longer. Did you see the night lights stretching over the city. That was... amazing" she breathed out, twirling around with the breeze kissing her face, but then she started getting that dizzy feeling again...and abruptly stopped spinning, and pressed the palms of her hands to her temples.
Her head was spinning in all sorts of directions. She's gotten the headaches before, but this was even worse.
Why was this so much worse than the ones before? How serious was these headaches? Will it ever end? Will it--
“Lissa! Are you ok?” Jace asked worriedly, interrupting her thoughts. That was the last thing Lissa heard before everything went dark...
