Chapter Twelve

They were approaching a storm. The crew was busy tying furniture and changing sails that no one noticed Amaris as she made her way to the lowest cabin levels. She’d hoped to slip in and out of Noah's cabin without anyone seeing her. Her plan came to a crashing halt when she reached his door and found a certain blond boy sitting on the hallway floor facing it with an open book in one hand and a throwing knife in the other.

Slygrin’s head was bent over the book, reading intently as he threw the knife and caught it mindlessly. “What are you here for?” he asked, not looking up.

“Just searching for you.” she lied. “Why are you down here?”

“Save the lies princess. You’re here to see him.”

She didn’t know how to answer that so she just sighed. “I need his books.”

“Why? Did you find out something?” he finally looked up from his book with eyes full of hope. “Can we save the captain?”
