Crisis(8)
"System breakthrough now! " commanded Sam.
*Affirmative host! Commencing breakthrough to level 3 now!* replied the system in an ice-cold voice.
Spontaneously Sam felt his shackles breaking, his cells, blood vessels, muscles, tissues and bones evolving and becoming stronger than before! He clenched his fists and punched at the tree.
Bam!
The tree trunk bore a gaping hole! Then small crack spread surrounding it slowly.
Sam was immensely happy seeing his strength grow! He never thought to upgrade to level 3 in less than a week. Usually, people took at least a month to do that!
"Now I am not weak anymore!" mumbled Sam grinning ear to ear!

Outer city...
"Roooarrr"
"Alert! The beast tide has reached the outer city! Be ready to fire in the count of 5!! 5..4..3..2..1...FIRE!!!!" shouted a military commander.
Boom!!
Boom!!
"Roar!!"
The beast horde came in waves as they attacked the city walls with their abilities! The military fired arrows, magic cannons, magic bullets to kill them but their numbers were numerous.
The beasts were as if pumped with drugs, without fear of death, they bombarded the outer city wall by climbing upon dead bodies of their comrades, repeatedly, breaking it apart bit by bit!
Boom!!!
A huge fire mushroom blew up some metres outside the gate due to the detonation of the explosive pit created by the military! Limbs, organs and burnt meat were scattered in the whole area due to the explosion. The scene was gore as more than 1000 beasts were killed in that explosion!
"Grrrr!!!!"
The remaining beasts stopped for some seconds as they snarled viciously from a distance. They seemed to be scared and thus hesitated to advance!
"Roaaaarrrr!!!!"
A roar was heard at that moment. The soldiers became tensed again sensing the roar of a high-level beast!! As much as their worry seemed right, the beast roared menacingly as they plunged towards city gates like mad beasts!
Another wave of firing happened. Almost after 1 hour of endless struggle, the soldiers joined the battle on foot!
Even after so much slaughter, the number of beasts exceeded their estimations!
Clash!
Bam!
Endless use of weapons, superpowers followed by both sides as they attacked each other to kill their opponent! The soldiers were like cold-blooded animals who even faced imminent death, preferred to drag another monster to their grave!
"ALL FOR HUMANITY!!!" roared the new soldiers as they jumped from the city wall to join their comrades who were fighting with the monsters!
"Kill!!!"
The captain stood on the city wall as he calmly supervised the battle and made necessary rearrangements! Suddenly he looked at the distant sky!
"Screeechhhh!"
A flock of mutated wind eagles had arrived! They were problematic beasts!
"Archers get into line! Tankers get ready into formations!! Fire immediately when the mutated wind eagles reach 50 metres of outer city gate!" commanded the Captain!
He gazed at the sky uneasily!
Mutated wind eagles were a bad story!!
If not immediately destroyed, then they would create havoc in the city!
"Wind and fire ability users! Use your abilities to stop them at all costs! Never let them enter the line!" ordered the captain!
The superpower users immediately went ahead and threw fire and wind cyclone and threw it towards the mutated wind eagles.
"Sreeech!!!"
The again birds were caught in a quagmire as they were caught in the storm. The fire blades that were hidden in the cyclone burnt half of them alive!
"Roar!"
A level 4 mutated wind eagle waved its wings repeatedly to create an anti-cyclone to disperse the attack! It glared at the soldiers with killing intent as it sent wind blades towards them disrupting the archers and foot soldiers, killing and injuring many of them!
The captain signalled a lieutenant who had wind ability to deal with the level 4 mutated wind eagle immediately.
Boom Booom!!
The lieutenant and level 4 mutated wind eagle clashed for a long period after which the lieutenant finally managed to kill it off, on the cost of critically injuring himself too when level 3 mutated wind eagles surrounded him to kill him! It took Captain personally to take a shot to rescue him, but the lieutenant was unable to continue the battle anymore!
"Well done! Take rest now! " patted the captain on the lieutenant's shoulder.
The lieutenant just grinned while puking blood as he fainted!
Bam!
Crash!~
Meanwhile, due to the increase in more beasts, the foot soldiers were unable to hold anymore! There were numerous casualties among them as they struggled to kill another beast even if they were at death's door.
The city wall was finally broken after 4 hours of struggle! At that moment, the city plunged in true despair!
The Captain and the other lieutenant were helpless as they were busy fighting other levels 4 beasts at that moment. They could only watch as the beast tide invade the city!
Even a low-level bloodthirsty beast could create a massacre in the city of ordinary citizens and now it was an army of them!
"Roar!"
"Ahhhhh... help!!!"
The abandoned citizens cried as they watched the vicious beasts nearing them with blood dripping from their fangs and tearing apart their loved ones one by one!
The city became a celebratory carnage feast for the beasts at that moment. They howled madly and plunged on the defenceless citizens tearing them apart bit by bit! The more the weak citizens despaired and cried for help, the more beasts took joy to massacre them!
Even though the citizens were ready to embrace death, but at the moment of seeing their loved ones torn apart brutally, they became mad and took up knives and axes and plunged onto the beasts to kill even one of them before the monsters could kill them!
Sadly, humankind was too weak to handle the dreadful beasts!
The soldiers also became red-eyed as all they open fired the beasts outside the gates to reduce their entry through the cracks of gates.
The earth ability users cast earth walls to repair the gate immediately.
But all the preparations were in nought as there were still more than ten thousand beasts coming from the depths of the jungle, to destroy everything apart!
The true struggle for the survival of mankind was vividly portrayed here!
