The Child In The Carriage

Long Yan happily went to the other stall and tried swinging a few wooden swords. Some other children were also there, and although they did not know each other, the children started having sword fights with each other. Long Yan seemed happy to find children of similar age to play with.

Long Zhao Feng and the First Madam exchanged smiles. They stood a little to the side to not disrupt the children while playing, but also not too far to not lose sight of Long Yan.

"It would be great if A-Yan has some playmates," the First Madam mused. "Unfortunately we are not close with other families."

Of course they were not.

The military families respected each other but were otherwise bone-deep rivals. They did not want to be friends with each other. Non-military families often shared different values in educating the children, so having children from different backgrounds mingle together was also not a good idea.
