Chapter 4 - The Five Supreme Clans

"Toad lusting after Swan's meat," Feng Qian thought.

He decided to teach this 'brat' a lesson he will never forget.

Feng Qian felt a great amount of jealousy as he stared at the noble kid trying to impress Yan Xiuying with his boastful words.

Even though he knew that this person's advances wouldn't have any effect on Xiuying, he couldn't help but envy him for being able to talk to her. As of right now, the distance between Feng Qian and Yan Xiuying was just too big.

He shouldn't feel jealous because of this small thing, Feng Qian consoled himself and blamed all his jealousy on the side effect of reincarnating to his thirteen year old amateur self. Around this age, it was common for him to have such childish emotions.

Unlike those high and mighty people in important positions, who hid their emotions under their sleeves, Feng Qian had an entirely different personality.

Although people in great positions are known for their meticulous thinking and having intricate control over their emotions, the Chaos monarch was known for his whimsical attitude towards things.

His moniker, Chaos Monarch itself, was mostly due to his chaotic personality as no one could judge what he was thinking or what he might do.

Even though this was the case, Chaos Monarch was also known for his wisdom, shrewdness and magnanimity. Which was just the polar opposite of his personality. He could be described as a child and an aged wise man in a single body, chaotic in and in itself.

This was also the reason why the two Races had joined their hands to get rid of him while being enemies from time immemorial. Even when, he and his whole sect put their life to protect the Upper realm from being invaded at the cost of their lives.

He was just like a ticking time bomb at their side and could blow up at any moment with no one having any control over it. Especially when his whole sect was now dead, leaving him with no emotional ties and fueled by rage.

Feng Qian's jealousy also stemmed from the fact that most noble clan heirs aren't a good thing and have hidden agendas while trying to approach her, after all, she was from one of 'The Supreme Clan' the Yan Clan.

Emerald City had its own hierarchy of clans based on their respective strengths.

At the top of the hierarchy were the Five Supreme Clans, comprised of three clans - Yan clan, Wang Clan and Su Clan, along with two major powers - the Treasure Pavilion and THE LOTUS institute.

The Supreme Clans had the greatest authority, being able to summon clouds and rain by just raising their hand. The most powerful and authoritative family was known to be the Wang Clan as the current clan lord Wang Tian was from this clan.

Despite being named the top clan among the five, in reality, the Wang clan wasn't very strong, as it was not a blood related clan but was more of an institution where warriors were bestowed the surname Wang.

Below them were the Five Noble clans - Mu clan, Huo clan, Shi clan, Jin Clan and Shui Clan.

As their name represented, these clans had specialized breathing techniques and skills of the five elements namely wood, fire, earth, metal and water respectively.

Under the top five noble clans came the vassals - Twenty Major Families.

The twenty major families worked under the umbrella of the five noble clans and had to contribute a major portion of their earnings to the noble clans as taxes, just like a feudal system.

While at the bottom were countless Minor families, which were basically commoners with no special background.

The term clan could only be used when referring to Supreme Clans and Noble Clans. It was strictly forbidden to use it for Major and Minor families unless they have the strength to back it up.

Apart from the Five Supreme Clans, there was also The Alchemy Association and the Inscription Guild which held similar, if not more powerful authority but were neutral and didn't participate in worldly affairs, spending most of their time honing their skills.

After the class was over, the instructor left the classroom.

Feng Qian stared deeply at the kid from the noble clan who was trying to grab Yan Xiuying's attention.

Noticing his gaze mixed with annoyance and anger, Guo Pang tried to console and persuade him, "That guy is from one of the five noble clans, Huo Clan. His name is Huo Zhong. I know you like that beauty, but people like us do not have the background like them. We are far too apart in both status and strength, so you should focus more on your cultivation."

Feng Qian looked deeply at his brother, who for some reason was speaking sensibly for the first time in his life and was glad that this lazy blob of fat was going to work hard in future but his next word made Feng Qian speechless.

"You should have great strength so that you can snatch the beauty back home and also cover for this brother in the future!" Guo Pang patted his chest as if he was proud of his great wisdom.

...

It was already afternoon, and the sun was high.

Feeling starved, Feng Qian and Guo Pang went to the institute's mess to have lunch with other students.

To decrease the divide between commoner students and those of 'noble origin', and to make them work together against the spirit beast invasion, the institute had tried different ways for students to mix with each other, and this was just one of many ways.

Feng Qian chose a quiet place to sit down from where he could gaze at Yan Xiuying and started reminiscing about his past.

"Hey! Are you listening to me?" Guo Pang broke his chain of thoughts.

"What?" Feng Qian asked, stuffing his mouth with food.

"Are you ok? You seem... a little different." Guo Pang questioned sincerely.

"Different? How?" Feng Qian asked nonchalantly.

"You know, you are too confident and, how should I put this? You're acting weird." Guo Pang said.

"I just found my purpose!" Feng Qian said nonchalantly, as he stared at Yan Xiuying.

Yan Xiuying was a beauty that could topple kingdoms. Her limpid brown eyes could mesmerise countless people with a single gaze. She had honey sweet lips, as soft as lilac, her slender neck as if carved out of jade. Her black hair descending from her waist, and an aura as pure and ethereal as a moon with no flaws in it.

Feng Qian found himself lost in the reverie of his imagination.

Feeling his gaze, Yan Xiuying felt something as she stared back at him.

She frowned as she remembered that Feng Qian was the one who had interrupted the instructor with his chuckle, and now he was looking at her

with a fiery gaze making her a little uncomfortable.

Feng Qian's image dropped sharply in her eyes as she felt annoyed, puffed her cheeks and looked away.

Yan Xiuying was cared deeply for in her clan and was her grandfather's favourite child.

Even though she had lived a pampered life, she had met all sorts of people and had a good grasp on her emotion compared to those of her age. But this 'pervert' somehow managed to break her calm demeanor.

Huo Zhong, who was trying to pursue Yan Xiuying looked at what had transpired and felt a sense of crisis arise from Feng Qian.

Huo Zhong didn't have the best talent, connections or high cultivation compared to others in his clan. But his luck was great that the favourite granddaughter of Yan Clan head was in his class.

She had a high talent and was Phoenix among the crowd. Normally, it would have been nearly impossible for someone like him to even take a glimpse of her, but now he has been gifted with this opportunity of being in the same class as her.

If he plays his cards well and grabs the attention of the beauty, then his position in the clan will strengthen. And if everything works right and successfully pursues Yan Xiuying, then him becoming even the Clan head won't be a farfetched dream, as a Supreme Clan being the backer was the best contribution anyone could make for the clan. In that case, he would definitely be allocated more resources than even the top talents of his clan.

Huo Zhong had already considered this farfetched dream to be possible as long as he could gain attention from this ice cold beauty yet had failed miserably.

But now this peasant was able to grab her attention and even bring out different expressions to her face as if they were flirting making Huo Zhong red with rage. He didn't want to let a peasant take his opportunity away.

He wanted to trample on him and show him the difference between their status, warning him not to lust after something that's out of his reach.

....

"Why are you cultivating the Ancient Qi breathing technique? It will ruin your future!" Guo Pang tried to change Feng Qian's mind after remembering their conversation in the classroom.

"This is the best technique you can find, it's just that this technique is misinterpreted." Feng Qian was trying to explain to Guo Pang about his decision when he was interrupted by a mocking voice.

"Misinterpreted? It seems like a frog at the bottom of a well can also brag about the depths of the ocean."

Feng Qian frowned as he saw Huo Zhong coming towards him with his lackeys. But then, a grin crept upon his face as a great idea emerged in his genius brain. He hadn't looked for this kid yet he had served himself on his doorstep.

Seeing the weird grin on Feng Qian's face two words popped into Guo Pang's mind - Perverted Ghost!
