Rescue

Parking the bike at the corner of the building, Yale and I stared at the crowd of worried people surrounding the place and the warning gunshots coming from inside.

Police cars littered the streets as they tried to negotiate with the people inside.

"What do you want?" They asked through the megaphone. "Release the hostages. Many people are going to die otherwise!"

"That is what we are intending!" Someone from the inside shouted back. "We don't want anything. Just to see chaos start!"

"Why don't they just go in if they have no intention of letting the people go?" I asked Yale who shook her head at me.

"They are police. If they go in there, and cause the deaths of some people, the public will criticize them heavily. That they are not really acting with interest to help the people."

"I guess it sucks to have some kind of reputation sometimes, don't you think so?" I asked, raising an eyebrow at Yale.

"Now is not the time." She said, stamping on my feet, repeatedly.

"Ow."

"How do we get in? We need to get rid of them first. There are people on all sides." She said, peeking at them from behind the wall.

I stared up the wall all the way to the back, realizing that the building does not have a space behind it, so it just stops in front of the wall.

"We could follow this," I said, picking her up in my arm and throwing her over my shoulder and I climbed the wall, careful not to make any noise as we blended in with the shadows.

"The sun is going to come up soon," Yale whispered as I reached the back of the building, still covered with trees.

"I know." I yawned. "Sorry. I think I am going to skip classes today."

"Yeah, I think we both should." She chuckled, jumping to the tree in front of us and held out her hand. "Come on, let's get this over with."

"Ok," I said, taking her hand in mine as we both jumped to the first window we saw. Looking inside, I saw nothing so I signalled to Yale and she opened the window.

"We're in." She said, smiling at me as we walked into the room. "Storage closet?"

"We could make out here," I said, looking through the shelves of cleaning supplies.

"No thank you." She immediately cut me off, walking to the door and opened it, peaking out. "All clear."

"Where are we supposed to go again?" I asked as we walked out of the room to the empty hallway. "We didn't plan this out properly, did we?"

"Do we ever plan this out?" She chuckled as we continued to walk down the hallway, still empty. "But we can first find her room and check if she is alright."

"Ok. Then we are going the wrong way."

"How do you know that?"

I pointed to the dead-end in front of us and then the numbers on the doors we passed. They started from 643 and, every door we passed was a higher number.

"Why didn't you tell me that then?" She asked, slapping me on my arm. "Are you trying to make me look like an idiot or something?"

"Why would you think that?" I asked, yawning again. "Shouldn't we be taking this a little more seriously?"

"You're the one that can't stop yawning." She said poking me on the side. "Come on, we need to hurry."

I followed her back the way we came and then down the stairs, stretching my arms in front of me.

I definitely overdid it today. So tired. I want this to be over. I want to sleep.

You could blame my tiredness or my lack of sleep for not being as careful as I would have but I have no excuse for myself as we bumped into a man with a very big gun.

"You two! Where did you come from?" He shouted, pointing the gun at us. "Don't move!"

"Should we do as he says or-"

"Depends, think he will take us to the hostages?" Yale whispered, looking him dead in the eyes.

I stared at the man as well, frowning, "I think he might?"

"Where are the hostages being kept?" Yale asked, pointing her finger at him. "Take us to them."

"Is that how you negotiate with them?" I asked, yawning. "Whatever, if it works I guess."

"C-come with me!" He shouted and we followed him as he took us down a couple of stairs until we reached a large group of people huddled in the centre of the room.

There were many more men in ski masks, with guns in their hands. They all looked at us the moment we entered.

Five on the left, seven on the right and three behind us. Quite an impressive number.

"Boss! I found them loitering around." The man that was escorting us said, as I shoved my hands in my pocket. "I don't know where they came from."

"He seems new," Yale whispered to me.

"Smells new too," I said, covering my nose. "Sweat and worry."

"Is that what woke you up?"

"Yup. Putrid but gets the work done."

"Zion?! Yale?!"

We turned at the same time to see Alexis get to his feet, staring at us with horror written all over his face.

"So that was where you were," Yale said as I waved at him. "Why did you even enter? You were outside."

"I had to. I needed to know if my wife is alright." He said sheepishly. "Wait. Why are you guys here??"

"We came to rescue you." I said, turning to the people looking at us with confusion. "Them too."

Bang!

Screams filled the room as Yale and I looked at them blankly.

"What was the point of that?" I asked, tilting my head to the side. "To make yourself seem scarier than you are?"

"He's loud too," Yale said, looking down on them immediately. "Not to mention, the ceiling might fall on him if he keeps shooting like that."

"You two! Don't provoke them!" Alexis shouted, panic in his voice.

"Don't worry about it, Alexis," Yale said, taking out her bag and handing it to me. "I'm a little annoyed from not doing anything today so I'll go ham. Is that ok, Zion?"

"You always do what you want, why are you asking me now?" I asked, snapping my fingers as a gust of wind broke out, destroying the security cameras.

"Thank you." She said, walking to the men in front of her as I walked to Alexis.

"How is she?"

"In her room. Still sleeping." He said, watching me yawn. "Wait, that isn't what we were supposed to be talking about. Why are you two here? What about Yal-"

Bang!

I turned to see Yale holding five guns strapped to her body as the men lay groaning on the ground. She had one aimed at a man, barely missing him.

"Zadie! Are you ok??" Alexis asked as the others in the room stared blankly at the pink-haired girl in a flowery dress and berries on her hair, holding the guns of five grown men.

"Yup." She said, the moment the other ten pointed their guns at her.

"Put your gun down now!" They shouted. "Otherwise we will shoot!"

"Put the gun down, Yale!" Alexis shouted, panic written all over his voice. "They will not hesitate to kill you! Zion! Say something to your girlfriend!"

"Did he do something, honey?" I asked as Yale placed her guns down.

"He told me to sleep with him." She said as I walked to her side, brushing her hair out of her face. "Disgusting."

"Right?" I said turning to the others with their guns drawn.

"You two! We will kill you and throw your bodies-"

I couldn't help myself as I started yawning, Yale laughing, "You're being rude, Zion."

"Sorry," I said, smiling lazily at them. "You're a little boring. If you are going to shoot. Shoot. I want to go home and sleep."

"Zion!"

"Please hurry up," Yale said, fixing the clips in her hair. "I want to take a bath."

"Yale!"

"Fire!"

"No!"

This is nothing. In that place, we had to dodge bombs thrown at us along with bullets while watching out for some kind of foul play.

Doing something like that once is fine but doing it every day for months on end … you start to see the bullets and bombs slow down. And, in no time, you were dodging them like they were nothing.

The moment they finish shooting, they always told us to pose so Yale and I, subconsciously posed in front of the ones holding everyone hostage.

The moment we realised what we were doing, we quickly turned away from each other.

"Ok. Enough of that." I mumbled, looking at the ones that shot us. "You saw us be embarrassing. I am sorry. We will have to kill you."

"I'm not sorry," Yale said as we charged at them. It didn't even take long and I found out what happens if I don't hold myself back when I punch a normal human.

Something caused blood to spill everywhere.

I apologised, don't worry.
