"I am so mad!" Mrs. Victoria leaned into me and whispered aggrievedly.

"Mrs. Victoria, I really appreciate your effort, but you don't have to defend me so intensely," I whispered back.

"What do you mean? You are just too soft! Those kinds of people need to be put in their place sometimes."

No, it's not out of kindness or anything, but your fight would unnecessarily prolong this matter. It's almost guaranteed I could get out safely after all, so there's no need to waste energy fighting against each other.
