Chapter 5 Falling into the River

The Bloody Mary sailed down the river, the townspeople left in its wake as it distanced itself from their small town, and the signal on their electronic devices grew progressively weaker.

"Oh, damn it, I can't hear you. Can you hear me?"

"Can you hear me now?"

"What about now?"

Half-blood beauty Gail swayed on the deck, attempting to catch a signal away from the town.

"We can hear you," the rest of the team teased from the side, their attitude toward the company representative overseeing them less than cordial.

Gail ignored the jeers, unaware she had reached the fence gate; she leaned against it, asking into the phone once more, "Can you hear me now?"

Just as the words left her mouth, the fence gate gave way. Gail found herself suddenly backless, plunged into a strong sensation of weightlessness that startled her, and before she could cry for help, she let out a shocked yelp.
