It felt like he had been staring into those eyes for a very long time. It was normally just gray eyes that almost always reflected his image, but today, the glint was different. For some reason, it was starting to glow in wanting.
Push! Ainsley's hand shot up and pushed against Sinclair's face. With strength comparable to a punch, Ainsley quickly deflected the scene in front of him. "Whatever movie you're trying to quote, I haven't watched it yet. Don't expect me to know the next line."
Actually, he was only scared that those eyes would mean something else.
Even if this was exactly what Sinclair was expecting, he was still mad about the force applied. Ainsley didn't even bother preserving his dignity at all. The dragon just stepped back and consoled his nose that took on most of the hit. In a growling voice, he answered, "Sure. Anyway, we should head to the billing window."
The human sighed without a sound as soon as Sinclair turned away. Even if the scene was dreamy, Ainsley was only terrified. It seemed that things were still changing between them, and it was not a one-way street.
The two of them walked towards the billing window, and Ainsley's eyes flickered when he saw Gavyn chatting with one of Sinclair's assistants. It seemed that the company was already aware of the matter, and they were indeed ready to give assistance to the man who saved him.
At this, Ainsley jogged towards Gavyn. "Hey! Why didn't you wait for me?"
"…I didn't mean to leave." Gavyn chuckled as he warmly faced and smiled at the oncoming man. "I looked for you and saw you talking to someone else, so I felt free to go about my business. I was thinking of waiting for you at the main lobby instead."
"Oh, geez." Ainsley twitched for a second before scratching his head. He hid the slight blush even if he didn't mean to look like he was embarrassed to be seen with Sinclair. "Anyway, this is my best friend Sinco. Let us pay for your bills as a 'thank you' for saving me."
Gavyn glanced at the man who was watching him carefully even if the newcomer seemed to be speaking with the other man in a suit. A strange smile then curled Gavyn's lips before turning to Ainsley again. "That man over there said you work for them. Must be nice to have a company that allows you to transfer your health benefits. I still have to meet with another doctor. I should be going.
"About the promise we had, it will take three days for the blood work. I hope it's not contagious through a bite. See you, Ainsley." Gavyn waved a little before walking off.
"Right. If they need to test blood, then should they have samples from me? Oh, wait, that's not right. They need my written consent for something like that." Ainsley didn't find Gavyn's behavior strange and evasive. He then walked to Sinclair and Stuart. "Sinco, you already knew he saved me from that accident?"
Sinclair only looked down at his best friend and shook his head. "It's my first time seeing him or even realizing that he was that man you spoke about."
For some reason, Ainsley frowned at him. "Why did he say the company paid for him?"
"I tried, but he refused." Stuart pushed up his glasses. "We did hear about the accident from the police who was looking for you. Should we go to the precinct to give your testimony of the accident? It would be helpful to them."
"Huh? Alright." Even if there was something strange about it, Ainsley figured it was because the police thought it was manslaughter if Stephen ended up dead. After all, he was just sent to the ER. No one could definitely say that he was inflicted by this disease whose victims were stuck in mental wards of hospitals.
…
Sinclair walked into the precinct with aviator shades slightly obscuring his pretty face. The two other men followed him, Ainsley looking so casual as if he wouldn't be interrogated by the police. However, the precinct was quite in a disorder. They were trying to subdue three grown men on the ground. With the graying faces that roared without teeth, Ainsley automatically backed off.
The CEO only glanced over his shoulder to make sure Ainsley was still fine. He only took note of the terror in the eyes of his best friend… as if the scene was very familiar. Aside from the one in the hospital, Ainsley had a close encounter with one after all. He then took a look in front of him as the people in the precinct ignored them. "Ainsley, did Mr. Abbott appear that way as well when he attacked you earlier?"
"Yeah. What kind of disease is this? It doesn't look natural." Ainsley's eyes quivered as he watched the police subdue the writhing victims. They wouldn't let up until the three were sedated.
One of them even retreated while consoling his bitten hand. He finally noticed the newcomers and nudged the reception officer to attend to them. Upon realizing who had arrived, the reception officer had a slight shock and panic within him. "Mr. King, may I know why you came today?"
Sinclair only regarded the officer before Stuart did all the talking. The reception officer glanced at Ainsley and nodded: "It might take a while. We still need to deal with those before resuming with the appointments."
"What are they in for?" It was none of Sinclair's business, but since he was delayed by it, the reception officer didn't mind answering him when he asked. The reception officer only glanced at the men carried to be placed in more secured binds and spit masks. "They were picked up for suspicious loitering in places they shouldn't be. They wouldn't answer and were taken here for questioning, but they attacked officers just now."
"Looks unsafe to be here. How long could you contain them?" Sinclair frowned, but his question was left unanswered for a moment. The reception officer had no right to decide for those people, so he didn't know what the higher-ups would do to them.
"They'll be asleep until they arrive in the hospital." Another man walked towards them. He then reached out a hand for a handshake, but he quickly took it back as smudges of blood were on it. "Sorry about that. It's not every day that we see something like that happen. I'm called Jefferson, Chief Inspector. Mr. King, how can we help you today?"
The reception officer filled him in on cue, and Jefferson only nodded. "Sure. I'll speak to Mr. Leneghan right now. I'll also let Mr. King and Mr. Stein stay with him. This way please."
