Chapter 84: All the Toys in Crane Machine

"This… doesn't have a timer, does this?" Haru looked back, asking Camille. "I could take as much time as I needed, couldn't I?"

"Y-Yes, that's right! Or… maybe. I haven't tried stalling it for a while, since I have been winning quite easily all this time. But it's worth the try, maybe?"

Camille saw cold sweat streaking down his forehead and neck. She got worried that it might've been because of him getting sick or something.

He's clearly pushing himself when he already seems like over the edge.

Camille slowly stepped backwards and tiptoed away until she could run back to where they were before, at the 3D chess ground.

When she found Alicia, she immediately asked for her help and told her about Haru, who's looking so unstable right now.

Meanwhile, Haru took his time on the crane machine and few dizzying minutes later, he finally got to put a toy in the bin.

He never felt so accomplished and glad before. He kept staring at the glass, just like how Camille did earlier, but he saw nothing even after staring at it for a few seconds.

"Wasn't this supposed to work instantly?" He whispered, slightly knocking and tapping on the glass and on the controls. "Where's the person? Where should I look?"

He looked back to ask Camille, but she's gone. Haru thought that she might've moved somewhere else after getting bored with him.

He let out a sigh and shook his head, convincing himself, "Maybe there's a glitch in the system? Let's try again."

He grabbed the toy that was in the bin, which he won earlier, then tossed it away to give space for his next game. Again, he took his time in getting a toy, trying his hardest not to get distracted by useless things.

And when he won again, the toy was dropped in the bin, but no person appeared at the glass, like how Camille told it would. She said that she had seen his brother there.

"Did she lie about that?" He shook his head, his skin heating up a bit. "What's wrong with her? Or was she hallucinating? Let's try again… The system might also be lagging."

But another try didn't make a difference. He won five games in a row and no person appeared. He already knew at the back of his mind that the world or system makes no mistake and Camille wouldn't lie to him.

He pushed his forehead in the glass, forcing himself to look at the emptiness of it.

And then, his tears began falling as he breathed heavily.
