Begging for a divorce

That night, Kavan and Sabrina sat forlornly in his small flat and considered their options. They didn't really have much of an option. Kavan has to do what his parents wanted him to do, to get married as soon as possible. Within three months, to be more specific.

They have checked the internet for the laws regarding divorce in Malaysia. It is not easy. It has to be brought to court, they have to get a court date, and this could take months. Even if both sides agreed to it amicably, it could take a minimum of six months for the documentations to be finalised. This meant that they can't get married until Sabrina is officially divorced. Polygamy for a woman is illegal.

"What are we going to do then?" Sabrina asked Kavan.

"Maybe I'll stave them off…I'll say I am not ready and that I needed more time," he said.

"Your mother won't allow it…she might just start arranging your wedding with Reesha," she pointed out.

They both sighed.

"Maybe I just run away again," Kavan suggested.

Sabrina laughed. It's not like he can go far. He didn't run away very far from his family anyway. They are only in Kuala Lumpur, the capital city of Malaysia. It is but a mere four hours' drive from where they are. Besides, he had kept in close contact with his family every other day. He didn't exactly run away. More like he relocated to a different state just to get away from them for a bit.

"Maybe I get pregnant first," Sabrina suggested. It will complicate things on her side with the clan elders but she doesn't care. If she gets pregnant, they can't do anything about it. They can't make her abort it since a dragonling is very precious.

"Really? Do you even want children? We have never talked about this," Kavan asked.

Sabrina shrugged. She didn't really have much of a preference. She knows the dragon shapeshifters have to produce offsprings too so that their numbers do not go down since fertility among dragon shapeshifters are usually sporadic and low. Some can even experience repeated miscarriages before carrying a dragon baby to full term. Even though dragons can live a long life and are practically immortal, some do die due to their own stupidity. They are immortal but that doesn't mean they can't be killed.

"I guess, eventually, we should have children, my clan wants each dragon who have found their mate to produce offsprings too, much like your family," she said.

"Are you saying I am your mate?" he asked, raising an eyebrow.

She grinned at him.

"You are more than a mate, you are my boyfriend and lover," she replied. She leaned on him and kissed him softly on his lips. "I mean I can't get enough of you, I will need years and years of all this deliciousness," she added, sliding her hands down from his chest to his crotch.

"Maybe we should start our baby making right now," she suggested. She stood up and beckoned to him.

"Come, let's get comfortable in your room, I don't want to break your poor sofa," she said. She peeled off her top and discarded it as she entered his room. Kavan immediately followed her, peeling off his shirt and kicking off his pants. He went in to his room and closed his door behind him.

The next morning, Sabrina woke up to the incessant ringing of her phone. She found it lying on the floor next to the bed. She picked it up, noticed that it is only six o'clock in the morning and saw that it was Dashen calling.

Kavan muttered next to her and turned to his side. He didn't wake. She quickly answered the phone before Dashen hangs up.

"Dashen! I'm so glad that you called," she said, sitting up and pushing her messy hair behind her ears.

"What have you been up to? The elders called me in, they noticed some strange powers swirling around my home in recent days," he said.

Oh no. She never expected the council of elders to keep a lookout on Dashen's house. It must be Xin Yi's powers. She has to remind that little girl not to use it too much.

"What powers? I don't have any, remember?" she feigned ignorance.

"Well, whatever it is, it was strangely powerful, I can sense it too and it was coming from your side of the house!" Dashen said accusingly.

"Dashen, you are obviously sleep deprived or maybe all that sex has muddled your brains, don't you remember I lost all my powers?" she said drily. No matter what, she must not reveal Xin Yi's secret. She must not let him know that Xin Yi even gave her some of her powers. The little girl is going to be a really powerful dragon healer one day.

"Besides, I am staying with Kavan…maybe you got confused? It must the remnants of my powers that you sensed," she lied.

"Hmmm…maybe. So, you called me yesterday, what is it this time? To beg me for powers to heal your boyfriend?" he asked.

"Actually, I want a divorce," she went straight to the point. No beating around the bush. Just get it out in the open.

"You know I can't do that…if we get divorced, you will have to go back to the sea jade palace…unless that is what you want," Dashen reminded her.

Dammit. Is there no way around it?

"I mean, we are only married on paper and we can just file of divorce, get the documentations settled in the human world, it's not like the elders keep track of human documentations anyway," she said.

"I mean, we do not have to announce to them that we are divorced," she added.

"You mean, lie to them that we are still married?" he asked.

"Well, more like an omission…we don't have to tell them we are divorced and who knows, maybe our divorce will change Meera's mind about marrying you," she suggested. Maybe the idea of finally getting Meera to marry him will push him to divorce her.

"I will have to think about it," Dashen said.

She rolled her eyes. Why does he have to complicate things?

"I mean, we just get lawyers and sign a bunch of documents, it is actually quite easy," she cajoled.

"I said, I will think about it," he said.

"But wait, why are you so desperate for a divorce, it never bothered you," he is curious.

"I want to marry Kavan and I can't do that if we are not divorced," she replied truthfully.

"Sabrina! You know you can't marry him! It is still not time for you to get married!" he exclaimed.

"Dashen…just think over it, please?" she pleaded.

He was silent for a moment. "I'll get back to you," and then he hangs up.
