There was more he should say, things he should express, but the words stuck in his throat, jumbled on his tongue. Alrin stood and backed away from the table enough to bow properly. "I will be ready at dawn, High Priest, unless there is a different time you want to leave."

"Dawn is fine," Korin said quietly. "I will walk with you, if you'll wait for me outside."

Alrin nodded, too adrift to argue or refuse, and left the king's solar. He leaned against the wall opposite the doors, scrubbing at his face with both hands, raking them through his hair, clenching and unclenching his fists, and was just about to start pacing up and down the hall when the doors opened. Korin bid a quiet farewell to Leifsson and watched him vanish down the hall before turning to Alrin. "Shall we?"
