Prologue

Fire. The sounds of screams filled her ears as Daphne ran.

She had to run, she had to keep running. She didn't want to be caught by them. She had to keep running, couldn't stop. She just couldn't.

She ran, not stopping for breath, not wanting the smell of burnt human flesh. She was running for the exits, the firemen outside, trying to put out the unrelenting fire, the firemen who would be able to save her.

Her body felt heavier and heavier, and she knew the drug that the men that had burned her parents alive were taking effect. She dropped to the floor, unable to move. She struggled, but to no avail.

The flames went up around her, the unbearable heat burning her skin. The smoke was choking her, putting her to sleep she would never wake up from.
