Can we be superheroes?

"ughhhh"...Esteban groaned out in frustration. Dragging his backpack on the floor as he made his way down the hallway.

Merlyn sighted him. with a smile she rushed up to him and stopped him.

"Hey Esteban "...she started.

"Hey merlyn"...he sounded depressed.

"are you okay, where is cameron?"...she glanced round but couldn't find him.

"he's grounded and so am i"....he sighed.

"why?".....

"well, you forgot to thaw out your freeze magic trick and our mum found out."....

"she knows I know about you guys?".....Merlyn started to get worried.

"yeah, she does".....

"so, where exactly is Cameron?"....

"well, he's avoiding you cause he doesn't want to blame you for the fact that his game set was seized as a punishment and mum hanged him upside down on the tree in our backyard all night"...he scoffed.

"uhhhh. is he okay?"...

"yeah yeah, he's just a drama queen "....

Merlyn sighed. she felt a bit guilty for thier punishment.

"What about you?".....she asked.

"well, she made me study!!".....

he sounded like he wanted to cry though he didn't.

"And how's that a punishment?".

.....she smiled anxiously.

"I HATE READING!".....he yelled to himself.

Merlyn paused. she had just sighted Cameron.

"Cameron?"....she said to herself.

Esteban turned.

"oh hey cameron!"....he yelled and waved.

Cameron looked up to see Esteban standing beside Merlyn. he immediately walked away quickly, hoping to lose Merlyn.

"See you Esteban "....she said, quickly leaving him to chase after Cameron.

"Cameron!".....she yelled continously.

he ignored her and kept walking faster and faster.

"Cameron stop".....she yelled.

he sighed and stopped, turning to meet her stare.

"Cameron I'm sorry about you being grounded. I know it's because I found out your secret. "...

"it's not your fault, it was me who made the mistake".....he sighed.

"so.....we wont be able to meet after school anymore?"...she asked slowly.

Cameron's sad and down expression quickly lit up at the thought of His crush wanting to hang out with him after school.

"you wanna hang out with me after school?"...he smiled.

"Not per say, but I wanna introduce you to the Junior hero force".....

his smile withered into a down and uninterested expression.

"Forget it. I'm not interested and besides my mum would never allow me"...he wanted to walk away.

"Cameron i wanna make it up to you"....she blurted out.

"how?"...he stopped.

"during p.e would you like to grab some ice cream from the cafeteria?"....she sounded shy.

he turned to her, trying hard to hide his smile.

"you mean just the two of us?"....

" yeah just us"...she replied.

"sure, would love to. see you then".....he acted cool and collected.

"kk"....Merlyn replied, watching him walk away.

he went into the boys bathroom and entered a stall. he checked to see if anyone was looking and when the coast was clear, he climbed unto one of the toilets and did his victory dance.

"u huh u huh u huh".....he sang as he danced untop of the toilet seat.

a boy entered in on him. he paused at the sight of the boy staring at him in shock.

he cleared his throat, embarrassed to the core and got down from the toilet seat.

he picked up his school bag and slowly exited the restroom, trying hard not to look back at the boy who stood speechless, watching him make an akward exit.

The bell rang after 6th period. the students rushed out into the field with thier p.e uniform. Cameron and Esteban sat underneath the bleachers, staring at the senior cheerleaders practicing a routine.

"So what did Merlyn say?".....

Esteban started.

"She asked me to meet up with her sometime from now for Ice cream in the cafeteria"...he answered.

"I know we're grounded for letting Merlyn in on her secret but what do you think about that Junior hero stuff she talked about?".....Cameron wanted to hear Esteban's opinion.

"Frankly, I'm not sure. it's all so sudden and besides why should we trust Merlyn on this?"...Esteban sighed.

"we know she has powers".....

"So?, It still isn't agreeing with me Cameron"...

"shouldn't we give it a chance?"....

"You give it a chance, I'm out".....

Esteban rose up, about to walk away from his brother when Cameron grabbed him and pulled him back to the seat.

"Does this have anything to do with dad and all mum's been telling us?"...

" No. Its just...its just too sudden, you know?, being part of a crime fighting team is dangerous and its risky. lives will depend on us and who knows what sorts of monsters are out there?".....

he sounded a bit scared.

"Esteban, you're just being a chicken. It's gonna be fun trust me"....Cameron laughed.

"Esteban, remember when we were five and we said we were gonna one day save this planet from mass destruction?".....

"yeah, so?".....

"This is our chance to finally fulfill those Childish dreams".....he assured him.

"yeah, but that was more than 6 years ago and we've grown now.....well I've grown now...you are still...In your forever home, so you were saying?....

"ugh"...Cameron rolled his eyes at him.

"Esteban, I want you to think about it and if you say no, I'll understand and quit from the Idea"....

Esteban paused, staring at the roof of the bleachers as though he were thinking.

"Let me see....NO"...he looked back down on Cameron.

"well whatever, I'm still doing it"....

"So what was the point of asking my opinion?".....Esteban felt a bit embarrassed.

"Hoped you would change your mind"...He smiled at him and then tapped his shoulders.

"Did you tell her, mum was unto her and that she should watch her back?"....he asked Cameron.

"Nahhhhh, There's no use "....

"Where are you going?".....

Esteban watched him get up.

"Still want that Icecream..."....he raised his right eyebrow and then ran off.

Esteban leaned to the rest of the seat with a sigh.

"The things I do for humanity.....

wait I've never done anything for humanity....I'm a terrible human.....

but then I'm not a human"...he argued with himself.

Cameron walked into the huge cafeteria. his eyes searching round the room for Merlyn.

"Cameron!!".....she yelled.

He immediately spotted her, a quick smile grew on his face as he rushed over.

"Hey".....he started.

over the table between them sat two bowls of strawberry icecream.

"I hope you like strawberry cause there was no other"....she smiled.

"No I don't mind".....he pulled out the chair and sat down.

"so, how are you feeling now?".....she asked.

"well, better than before I guess"....

he chuckled.

"I'm glad so"...

An akward silence sat in the air for a while, The two of them feeling the pressure and urge to speak without having anything to say.

'"so..... is there anything special you would like to talk about?".....

Cameron broke the silence.

"well, It's about the Hero force"....

she wanted to speak.

Cameron sighed, a bit unhappy about her reply.

"Cameron, i don't wanna bother you with this, its just that I'm fascinated by your powers and back story and we could really use you and Esteban on our team.".....She tried to convince him.

" You know, when you asked For this Ice cream date, I thought it was finally about something other than your akward obsession with this Hero force"...he answered dissapointedly. He got up and walked away, leaving her all to herself in the huge Cafeteria.

Cameron ran back to the field. he searched around for Esteban and finally spotted him where he had left earlier. Stacy jumped out of nowhere, startling Cameron.

"Hey Cameron"...A wide smile plastered on her face.

"Not now stacy"...he held her and moved her to the side.

she smelt her shoulders where he had touched, a shy smile grew on her face as she watched him walk away.

"I'm never washing my shoulders again"....she squeaked.

"Hey Esteban"...he yelled out to his brother.

"Cameron!,What are you doing here?"....Esteban yelled back.

Cameron rushed up the bleachers to meet Esteban.

"Aren't you having the icecream of your life?".....Esteban smiled. His smile fading away at the sight of Cameron's serious look.

"She wanted to talk about The Hero force."...he sighed and sat beside him.

"so, didn't you make up your mind to consider it?".....Esteban seemed confused.

"I know but..."...

"But what?"...

"Nevermind it , let's go play some football"...Cameron dragged him.

"Fine but go easy on me okay?"...

...His Accent clouded his words.

"okay, but don't get your hopes up"....

Cameron laughed.

After school, the two boys went home. Cameron flung his backpack unto the couch, the moment they got into the house.

Esteban paused and so did Cameron at the sight of Charlotte with a woman they didn't know. It was Rena.
