The child said, her tone sounding sad as Lady Melissa finally understood what she had meant- she had probably lied to multiple times, and her guess was from the orphans in the orphanage.

Probably a promise saying that they would return and see her, but they never did, and the director and his wife probably promised her that one day they'd come back and see her.

Lady Melissa said, as the child was a little surprised, she hadn't expected Lady Melissa to agree with her, she had expected her to lie to her once more and say that people don't lie.
