Moving

Bethany (Betty) Eins and her family are moving east to Haida. They've been planning this for a while and now's the perfect time to go.

Betty was packing her bags when her father entered the room.

"Betty," He shuffles toward her. "You know that you don't have to pack anything?"

"Oh yeah." Betty scratches her head. "I'm sorry, I'm just so excited to be moving!"

"Don't worry about it!" Her dad smiles back. "We'll be waiting for you downstairs!"

Betty waves at her dad before she closes her door. She heads back to her suit case and sees a small Fox laying inside of it.

"Ma'am," Betty bows before addressing her. "That suitcase is one of mine."

"Do not call me that," The fox lightly lifts up their head. "The name is Difemanim."

"My bad," Betty says before covering her mouth.

"Maybe," Difemanim lowers their head again. "I heard you and your family were heading toward Haida."

"Yes," She nods. "We decided that it's the proper time."

"I was hoping I could join you too!" The fox yawns. "I've only heard of Haida yesterday."

"I'm sure my husband won't mind." Betty reaches out her hand toward the Fox.

The fox sticks out their paw and shakes Betty's hand. Betty closes the suitcase and asks if the Fox is okay with being inside during the trip.

"Certainly!" The fox's muffled voice booms from the suitcase.

"Good!" Betty picks up the suitcase and heads downstairs.

Betty's family could be seen waiting downstairs, all of them are excited for the trip. They get out of their house and began to walk to Transport.

On their way there, a bunch of people wave at the family, and they wave back. Other than that, the walk was a bit uneventful.

Finally, they had made it to Transport. A Transport Officer walked up to them and asked a question.

"So," The officer tips their cap. "Where'd it be to?"

"We're heading to Haida." Betty answers.

"Haida, eh?" The officer checks a piece of paper. "Should be over at 77!"

"Danke!" Betty exclaims as the officer walks off. "All right guys, follow me."

She walks left and continues going for a while. It felt like a couple hours before she found her destination at 77. She gets in line for the transporters and before long, she finally got on one.

"So," Betty talks to a fellow passenger. "What'd you think of Haida?"

"Why are you talking about Haida?" The passenger says. "We're going to Kenora."

"What?" Betty laughs. "I thought 77 was going to Haida?"

"I'd bet they are." The passenger nods. "but not 11."

"Oh..." Betty looks down. "I guess I gotta break the news to Paps."

"We're not going to Haida?!" Difemanim says in shock from the suitcase.

"Don't worry about it." Betty looks at her suitcase. "I'm sure I can fix this. Let me just tell my family."

She walks to the back of the Transporter and falls out. She rolls on the ground due to it being rather hilly and passes out. When she wakes up, she can see Difemanim nudging her head.

"Hello again!" Betty smiles as she gets up. "Did we make it?"

"No," Difemanim looks up at Betty. "We're in Fairfax."

"Nothing to worry about." Betty smiles at Difemanim. "We just need to find the others, then we can head to Haida!"

"I think I might know where Papa is." Difemanim peers into Betty's eyes. "Follow me."

Difemanim walked into a building and Betty followed as well. Inside of the building, there is a group of people talking to each other.

"Excuse me sir," Difemanim looks up at a man at the party.

"My," The man crouches down to Difemanim. "A talking fox? How peculiar?"

"Why must you make that comment?" Difemanim asks the man.

"It isn't every day that you see someone like yourself." The man shakes Difemanim's paw. "I don't think I've ever seen a fox talk."

"Neither have I," Betty butts in. "But we need to know if you've seen-"

"Now hold on a minute," The man interrupts her. "I wasn't finished talking."

"You interrupted me as well." Betty crosses her arms.

"Hey Bets," Difemanim turns back to Betty. "We should talk in private."

"Of course." Betty nods. "We'll be back."

Betty walks out of the building and talks to Difemanim.

"That man is hiding something from us." Difemanim tells Betty.

"Why would he?" Betty asks.

"He must not like us for being from Mandan." Difemanim guesses. "We need a plan."

"I've got this." Betty assures Difemanim.

The two of them walk back into the room. The man is talking with someone else before he notices that they're back. He walks back up to the group.

"You're back!" The man claps and rubs his hands together. "Now where were we?"

"Can we speak in private?" Betty asks the man.

"No thanks." The man chuckles. "I don't roll that way."

"No," Betty corrects him. "I just have something very important to say."

"Then say it right now." The man dares her.

Right as he said that, Betty instantly loses track of the man and the party. Her vision is changed to seeing an office building in front of her. The party disappeared in a snap.

"What happened?!" Betty grabs her head.

"I'm sure someone in that building knows what happened." Difemanim startles Betty.

"Of course!" Betty nods.

The two of them walk into the building and sees an employee of the building.

"My oh my!" The worker exclaims. "You seem to be drenched in something!"

Betty looks at her hands and sees that it is covered in a dark red liquid.

"It appears so." Betty nods her head.

"Why that's no good!" The worker nods as well. "Might I interest you in a shower?"

"Of course!" Betty nods and looks at Difemanim. "Can the fox get one too?"

"Follow me!" The worker ignores the question.

Betty follows the worker and Difemanim follows Betty. The group walks in a circle before finding the showers.

"Go on then." The worker points toward the shower. "There is no need to wait!"

Betty turns on the shower and feels the water. The water has a stinging sensation on her skin and she instantly jerks away from it.

"This must be an attack!" Difemanim proclaims.

"That water was awfully painful!" Betty complains to the worker.

The worker sticks their hand in the water.

"Seems fine to me." The worker shrugs.

"That might be because of those gloves you have on." Betty scratches her chin.

And just like that, the environment changed again. Now Betty is on top of a building. On the building with her are 7 people with strange objects being pointed at her.

"Hello!" Betty greets the strangers.

"Do not make any sudden movements!" One of the people shake their handheld object.

"What is wrong?" Betty replies.

"I said do not move." The person repeated.

Betty stared at them before 6 of them disappear. Betty is suddenly in front of the only one still there and she feels an extreme pain in her arm. She looks at the person and sees that they no longer have the object from earlier.

"GET BACK!" The person shouts and shakes.

"What's this all about?" Betty get's closer to comfort them.

"I SAID STAY BACK!" The person grabbed Betty's arm and pulled her with enough force to knock her off the roof of the building.

Betty wakes up again, she looks to the left of her and sees the sidewalk. She realizes that she's laying on the street and gets up as soon as she could.

Betty looks around and she sees that the majority of buildings in the city (whatever city this is) has caught fire. People are beating out people up in the streets, people are being robbed, it's something she has never seen before.

Difemanim walks toward Betty, not as a fox, but an entity that she could not describe. She still knew that it was Difemanim, she felt it.

"What-" Betty tries to process what's going on. "What happ-"

"Do not worry about it, Bethany." Difemanim responses. "Everything will be what it needs to be. Soon, very soon."

"But, the-" Betty tries to string words together, but she can't.

"Come along then." Difemanim says in a calming voice. "The more we stall, the higher the chance that your family could be in great danger."
