Uncovering Secrets and Picking Disciples

Wang Wei waited for the first of the many many people he had to examine to enter the chamber within the temple.

The one who entered was in fact a nervous-looking middle-aged man. The man didn't even dare to look at Wang Wei and kept staring at the decorated floor of the temple.

"Come." Wang Wei said in a kind tone, that instantly set the man at ease. The man was given a priority as a mortal and as such he was the first one to enter.

Before he did any kind of questioning he first had to test his soul for his spiritual strength. Wang Wei's spiritual sense spread out and then condensed on the body of the middle-aged man.

Wang Wei's brows furrowed in concentration, while the middle-aged man was so shocked by the sudden feeling of being spied on that assaulted his consciousness that he almost emptied his bowels.

However, what Wang Wei was seeing was very very strange. When he focused his spiritual sense on the middle-aged man's soul space he saw his soul. And he was very confused to be informed by the Heavenly Will that THIS is how an average soul is supposed to look like.

Compared to his own soul this little thing barely looked like it was a tenth of the size, it looked like a gnome. However, when he started analyzing it he was even more shocked to find out that the black liquid that covers the wisps of the middle-aged man's soul was so much much less thick than the one that covered his own.

As soon as Wang Wei saw that he finally understood why he had such a hard time controlling himself in this new life, it must be because the concentration of that black liquid was much larger now than it was in his past life.

When he tried to ask the Heavenly Will why that was, he was completely stupefied to find out that it didn't answer him. As a matter of fact, as soon as he posed that question a fearsome pressure erupted all around him.

It felt the same as the time when his father told him about Dao-Ancestors and the Heavenly Will tried to kill him, however this time the feeling was amplified a thousand times over, and it didn't feel as if only his body and soul were being scanned through it felt as if his entire past, present, and future were as well.

But as soon as the pressure erupted around him, he suddenly felt something strange stir from within his soul and as soon as it did so the pressure disappeared as if it was never there, however when he tried to scan the origin of that strange sensation within he soul he wasn't able to find anything.

Wang Wei was stunned at what just transpired because after thinking about it he finally understood what just happened. The will that just descended and started scanning him was obviously the Great Dao.

After realizing that he also realized that he stumbled upon something much bigger than he could understand, but he suspected that what just happened somehow had something to do with his reincarnation.

However, he wasn't worried about it, because obviously, he had someone or something protecting him, and even if that someone wanted to hurt him, with the power they just displayed he couldn't resist.

Wang Wei was also very worried for the middle-aged man's safety, after all even though Wang Wei had protection from whatever that was the man didn't. However, when he observed the man again he saw that he was perfectly fine as if he didn't even detect the presence of the will.

Meanwhile, the man was very confused as to why the Guardian God just closed his eyes and didn't say anything for so long, but still, he didn't dare to say anything or leave the room and so he waited patiently for Wang Wei to address him.

Wang Wei then said with empathy apparent on his face "I'm sorry to say that you have no talent for Buddhist cultivation. You may leave."

When he heard that the man was a bit disappointed but ultimately before he came here he was just an ordinary merchant so he didn't expect much anyway and so he quietly left.

As he left the chamber the next person in line came in. And so he the days passed with him doing nothing all day except meet with all of the people that wanted to become his disciples day and night for twenty days.

However in return for his hard work he successfully managed to find two disciples that fit his criteria.

One was strangely the emperor himself, and even though his knowledge of the scriptures was barely enough to pass his requirement. His strong soul more than made up for it, it was so big that even compared to his own gigantic soul it was still a fifth of its size, and he was even in the peak of Body Refinement.

However, his soul was covered in much more black liquid than usual which would make breaking through much harder in the future.

And the other one of his disciples was a young boy from the third ring named Shin Chi, he was born to mortal parents that eventually died and he was left in the local temple to be raised by priests.

Even though he didn't cultivate even to the first stage of the Body Refinement realm, the strength of his soul was on par with Huang Xue's.

His knowledge of Buddhist scriptures was very thorough due to being raised in Wang Wei's temple and the amount of black liquid covering his soul was also a bit less than usual

All in all, he was very satisfied with the quality of the disciples he gained, however, he was a bit confused as to what to do with Huang Xue but he quickly made a plan.

Since Huang Xue was the emperor, Wang Wei immediately told him to resign, as worldly rule must be left to the secular world and he must focus on enlightenment.

Huang Xue was of course overjoyed that Wang Wei accepted him as a disciple, and immediately handed the throne over to one of his many children named Huang Lu.

And the reason he wasn't the least bit angry that he had to give up the throne was that political power will only ever be fictitious unless there is real power to back it up, and once he succeeded in breaking through he would have all the power he needed.
