Chapter 6: Car ride

"Girls wake up! It is 4 am and Ruby's flight leaves at 6 am. We still have to drive to Johannesburg Airport and you know how messy the traffic is!" Ruby's mom yelled.

"Ruby, shit dude wake up. Your mom is panicking right now, let's get ready before you miss your flight." I said.

"I think I'm still high, how many blunts did we have. Shit, I am so tired!" she replied trying to pull herself up.

I looked at her and started giggling. I am going to miss these funny moments of both of us just trying to live our best lives. We had four blunts last night and I honestly still feel so high. I think we had the last one at midnight and it is only 4 am right now. I do not think I am going to bath, they will wake me up when they are leaving for the airport. I'm going to sleep.

"Haya wake up!" Ruby's tired beautiful face is all I remember because I passed out.

"Haya, we are leaving wake-up!" Ruby removed the blanket revealing my naked body.

"Hey! you pervert! did you have to remove the blanket or you wanted to see my sexy naked body for the last time? do not worry, I will send you nudes when you are in Paris, my love." I stood up and wore my black joggers.

"Shut up! get ready and come to the car. We are leaving soon." Ruby giggled and left the room.

I quickly went to brush my teeth and wore a baggy t-shirt then slid into Ruby's slippers. It seemed as though she was leaving them behind so I decided I'm going to take them. I have always found it cute that my best friend's clothes fit me, whenever I came and had nothing to wear she would borrow me her stuff. Black families are obviously against sharing clothes but we do not think it is a big deal, she is my best friend and I am entitled to everything she owns, it is also the same with me. What is mine is hers and what is hers is mine. They eventually got used to it and now it is water under the bridge.

"I'm done! let's go drop this pretty lady at the airport so that she can be on her way to Pari." I swiftly got into the car.

"Okay, I hope we are not leaving anything behind girls." Ruby's mom asked...when we did not answer her, she started the car and we left Ruby's house.

On the way to the airport, there was a lot of traffic, I was so exhausted that I decided to sleep on Ruby's lap. She ran her fingers through my hair, it felt good. I started thinking about how much I am going to miss having her around, she is the only best friend I have ever had. I love how much we both are always ready to do anything for each other, I never thought I would find someone who never gives up on me no matter what.

"I love you so much best friend, I am going to miss you a lot," I said.

"Aw, I love you too and I am going to miss you more than anything but do not worry Haya. I will come to visit and you are coming to Paris soon too right?" Ruby replied.

"Yes, well I will see. I doubt my parents are going to send me a lot of money, my dad is pissed because he found out that I am going to Stellenbosch to study media and not medicine." I said when suddenly I started sobbing.

"No no, do not cry Haya. I know your dad loves you, he is only human and I guess he is hurt because his dreams for you are not going to happen the way he thought they would." Ruby's mom intervened.

"But mom that does not mean he should stop talking to his daughter, Haya is trying her best to make them proud but she also has dreams of her own. I think you should talk to her parents about this, it is not fair!" Ruby almost yelled while caressing my back.

"No Ruby, it is okay. My mom told me why my dad does not want me to study media. It is something that has to do with his life and he wants what's best for me, your mom is right. There is no need for your mom to go talk to them, my dad will come around." I lied. I do not know if my dad is ever going to talk to me, to be honest. He seems like he does not even care if I exist, I wish he would talk to me. A single conversation would fix so much right now but I do not know, I am a child to them anyway.

"Well if they do not send you enough money to come here then I will send you money so that you can buy a plane ticket and come visit me. Do not worry much about your parents Haya, focus on yourself when you get to Cape Town. Live your best life." Ruby said. She kissed me on my forehead and wiped off my tears.

Her mom looked at us using the mirror and smiled. Ruby's mom has always supported our relationship, she is honestly the best mom ever. My mom is fine with Ruby and my relationship too but I think she does not even understand what best friends are, she thinks we are two teenagers that are friends.

I remember at first my mom did not agree with me going to Ruby's house for a sleepover. I practically had to cry, kneel and beg my mom to let me go sleep at Ruby's house for her birthday. She did agree in the end and I was so happy because both our parents ended up allowing us to come over to each other's houses more often.
