Chapter 248: Quarrel At The Castle
"So, how do you do it?"
"It's a long story…" September bluntly declared.
"You said that you were going to tell me if we…?"
"Yes, yes, yes, don't worry I'll tell you, but like I said, it's a pretty long story and I wouldn't want to bore you with the details," this was the last thing September wished to do, especially since there was so much to do and so little time to waste.
"I heard that."
The knight and the witch exited the library and walked down the stairs at the castle to go to a different area of her home.
September took the elemental book with her.
"I was never able to master the fire element. I tried. Many times, but as you already know, I was not born in the Summer province, so no fire for me. I was born in the Autumn province just like you, Junk and just like you, my element is wind. I can command…" September paused as she abruptly came to a stop at the center of the stairs.
The witch raised her right arm in the air and a gust of wind was swiftly summoned above the stairs.
Thud!
A loud and booming thud was heard and then echoed behind them.
The door was hardly shut.
It was the gust of wind violently shutting leading to the library behind them.
"... Wind," September finally finished her sentence.
It was her wind that shut that door.
"I can see that."
Junk was impressed, to say the least.
"However, for the fire element, the only way I was able to utilize it is thanks to this," she then showed her scepter to him.
"Your scepter?"
"The essence in my scepter originally came from the Summer province. Someone from the Summer province 'gave' me a soul-essence that I infused into my scepter. In other words, fire element essence was placed into this piece of wood and this has allowed me to use the fire element for a long time, now and I am not complaining about it because I have two elements to my disposition. Wind and fire both make for a dangerous complication," the witch finally gave Junk the full explanation as to how she was able to use fire.
"That must be nice," he said to her with a wry tone in his voice.
"Jealous?" she shot at him.
"Me? Jealous? I can't be too jealous right now as I don't even have my birth element master yet. Something tells me that I have to get it and fast," Junk placed both of his arms behind his head as they descended down the stairs together.
"That's true. I see so much potential in you, my loyal servant. I need to teach you how to master wind."
"Good. What should I do first?" he asked her impatiently.
Bang!
Bang!
Bang!
However, the knight and the witch were both suddenly interrupted by loud, banging noises in the castle.
This cacophony was heard at the entrance of the castle.
"What was that?" September asked, visibly concerned.
"Let me find out about this.
BANG! BANG!
Too late!
The two front gates of the castle were violently burst open!
A tall and scary scarecrow creature burst through those doors and entered September's home!
The creature had long legs and arms. His torso was skinny with signs of mass to it almost as if he was entirely made of wooden sticks and hay. The biggest part of his body was without a shadow of a doubt his head, which was a mean-looking jack-o-lantern. There was also a dark brown hat on top of the pumpkin.
The scarecrow came alive? Junk thought.
Junk remembered seeing that stupid scarecrow many times on the road leading to the castle. It had never moved before, so he assumed that this was a regular scarecrow. It was quite safe to admit that he had been dead wrong this entire time and that there was something that happened that he didn't know about yet…
"The scarecrow came alive?" Junk asked out loud.
"He's out of control…" September admitted, just as surprised as her knight was.
The castle was empty save for them, so it was clear that the living scarecrow had come here for them.
The scarecrow was heads taller than both Junk and September.
He was quite menacing and he was coming this way, meaning to attack them presumably.
"Your fire element! We just spoke about this! Use your fire scepter and burn that scarecrow to the ground!" Junk smartly told her to do it.
"I can't do that! I wouldn't want to hurt him!" she immediately turned down his offer to use her fire on him.
"Why not?"
"He's my scarecrow. He's been on the premises of the castle for a long time."
"Fair enough, but does your scarecrow often come alive like this?" Junk had to know if this was something normal that just happened.
"No. This never happened before," she confirmed to him.
The scarecrow had enough of this.
He was about to stomp on the witch!
"Um, interesting… Watch out!" Junk tried to warn her right before she was attacked by him.
Junk tried rescuing her, but it turned out that she saved herself with a new wave of wind that she summoned out of her bare hands
The wind shield protected her from the stomp of the scarecrow.
September was still pushed back by a lot.
"You… Don't… Touch her!" Junk was not messing around with the type of stuff. He was not only protective, but he was also quite territorial, to say the least.
Fuelled with rage, Junk managed to replicate the very same thing September just did and also summoned wind out of the palm of his hand, shaping a wind beam that was fired right at the scarecrow, pushing him away!
This resulted in them defeating the spooky Halloween scarecrow.
He fell down.
He collapsed.
So did Junk, as well.
They both did.
However, the battle was over.
