the moon was out. its beams streaming through the thick velvet curtain, scattering around the posh room with utmost delicacy, dancing on the glinting polished floors and frosting upon the surface of crimson sheets engulfing the soft bed..
my eyes darted around to inspect any out of ordinary movement. i slowly got up, adamant on making zero to no noise at all.
a requisite escape route, out of this grandeur expense of wealth and prosperity that i was presently imprisoned in was heavily needed. for which, i figured, i must explore around to broaden my options and ways for a possible breakout.
pushing the door open steadily, i eventually found myself stood in the middle of a majestically humongous hallway denoting the supreme worth and magnificence of this region. endless expanse of red carpet adorning the floors, veiling them to the extreme. high ceilings decorated with shimmering chandeliers just amplifying the brightness and accentuating the luxury and poshness of this apparent castle.
i absolutely, utterly, completely
detested it.
i gradually passed by enormously solid wooden doors each with contrasting designs carved into them with such delicacy that swelled my heart. and proceeded to saunter my way through this convoluted hallway when i registered hushed sounds....
my heart missing a beat as i looked around frantically for the source when i spotted the only ajar door in the hallway. i held my breathe, equipped to handle the situation with grace, slowly approaching it.
careful to stay away from the debacle, however was unable to resist peering through the crack of the mahogany door, the eyes widened in realization when i spotted the young women from earlier, still cladded in that ivory green dress except that now it was slightly torn, displaying her smooth skin as she was leaning against the table in a compromising position, with a male crowding her personal space, occupying her lips.
but the thing which rooted me to the spot was not their heated make out session, but rather that man's side profile which was parallel to some mortal i had caught sight of before... somewhere i couldn't quite decipher.
and then it hit me, an abrupt remembrance flashed through my mind and oh! how could i miss that face when it was the headline of every weekly newspaper accentuating the amount of innocents he's massacred. when that exact face haunted minds of thousands in town, grazing every other poster scattered in all parts of town, under the headline of MOST WANTED.
how could i miss that face when it was the one my entire crew was after for years and as soon as the realization settled in.
i involuntary let out a notable gasp.
that's exactly when he turned away from the woman in his arms to the source of disruption and locked eyes with me.
his expression hardening before his side lip quirked up in a sly, evil smirk.
"ah i see that you're up, darlin.."
and fvck, i forgot to make my heart beat.
