TWENTY-TWO YEARS LATER
"Urgh! stupid college kids" grumbling in annoyance I made my way to the kitchen, muttering a little excuse me and pushing through those who decide to ignore me or have no sense of courtesy, at the same time scanning the room in case I spot Skylar.
"Kia!!!" well there she is... I thought loudly. Following my screaming best friend's voice I turned my head to the left side of the room which was opposite the kitchen where I was heading.
Facing a frantically waving sky, I moved to hug my best friend who I haven't seen in about two weeks. In all her gorgeous glory she skipped my way smiling like a creep. In a trance as usual I went down memory lane, back when I was still in high school.
Starring, I Kiara as the usual loner aka school freak and sky as the highschool sweetheart.
Sometimes I always wonder how we became best friends seeing as she's at the top of the school rank and I was at the rock bottom.
Seriously a friend of freak girl aka "me" is also a freak. Simple as ABC... but it seems that didn't apply to social top rankers or sky in particular, as it didn't affect her social status at all.
Yeah I've been called a freak through out my entire school life , why? oh I'll tell yah, it's because of my eyes!!! If you've seen a snake eye then you can picture how they look.
Shockingly sky had no problem with it. She saw me for who I was and not what I look like, and for that she started defending me and standing up for me from the school gossip mongers.
The gossips? I hear them alright. They never say it to my face or confront me about it but they spread rumors real fast.
It never bothered me because it made me kind of famous... not the good type of famous but... famous so indirectly I was like... at the top social rank like sky!!! so I made that a motivation for me until I graduated and got lenses. So if you see me I've got brown eyes not snake eyes or dragon eyes like the rumors portray.
"Um... sky... are you alright, do you need water or you need air" she rushed like a dope rapper.
"Am okay mama bear" I snapped out of my trance smiling wildly like a creep which am sure is the right simile because a huge muscled guy with the military hair cut passed by giving me weird looks.
"I'm so happy you came, thought you wouldn't make it " she sighed giving me a literally tight breathtaking hug.
Smiling in return she released me, while I gave her a playful punch in fake annoyance.
"Really, what did you take me for... I wouldn't miss my bff's birthday party for anything..." I fake frowned folding my arms and pouting my lips.
"Oh boo am sooo soowwy".
"Umph, you better be".
"Come on lets give you a little something to boost your party spirit", smirking mischeviously she took my hands dragging me into the kitchen. Rolling my eyes I followed her remembering the last time she gave me a little something... guess what it didn't end well.
Entering the kitchen I gasped in amazement "when you said your mom was doing a little redecorating I didn't know it was a total renovation".
The kitchen was amazing cupboards white, marble flooring, marble counter and island with three mini white chandeliers over it. It was an all white theme with no single stain or scratch inhaling the room it smelt like jasmine and cleaning agent. No wonder why the place was empty... it was like a forbidden territory.
"Pfft you know my mom" she rolled her eyes mocking her absent mum. Opening the top cupboard sky brought out three shot glasses filling them with a familiar liquid on the sleek counter.
Turning around she pushed the glass to my face asking me to drink, with a glint in her eyes. Sighing in defeat I took the glass tossing it to the back of my throat feeling the burn. 'I knew it, its tequila'.
Scrunching my face passed the glass to her and she giving me another in return, before I knew it I had taken three glasses. "Woah!!! I feel so jumpy" I squealed throwing my hands in the air exiting the kitchen leaving my friend to clean up.
My whole senses felt so alert that I joined the drunk partygoers in the living room dancing to the beat not believing that I could feel normal once again. Twerking and grinding against an unknown stranger I lost my self in the music throwing my stress, worries and thoughts out the window.
********************************************************************
In the middle of my dancing, my seeing started to blur and I stopped dancing. Worrying my dance partner of the abrupt change, "are you okay?" the slurring, and swooning voice of my partner whose name I figured was Dan asked me.
"Yeah I think am gonna take a little air outside, no worries"
"Um... okay, should I go with you"
"Nah, thanks am okay" I smiled leaving for the exotic kitchen.
Opening the not so surprising full to the brim fridge. I took out a bottle of water swallowing the refreshing liquid in hopes it would cure my blurred sight. It was still blurred when I opened them and more worse that I couldn't see till I felt a sharp pain in my eyes like I was being nailed in the eye with a pin. Screaming at the top of my lungs, losing my balance I landed on the kitchen floor holding my face in unbearing pain.
I was still on the floor for roughly two minutes moaning and groaning in pain until the pain subside and I could see clearly again. Sighing I rested my back against the wall in exhaustion.
This was not the first time I experienced this, it's just that the pain gets stronger every time and something tells me its gonna get worse. Standing up, I made my way to the backdoor opening it and walking down the stone pathway leading to the grassy field where a white Monteros Tiered fountain could be found.
With three water bowl going from smallest to largest in a descending order; a cross like statue at the top and six squared flower vase around it making the garden look serene in bloom of the moon, I sighed taking a seat on the bench in front of it.
Enjoying the night air, my thoughts came crashing in full force. Mostly, my lonely life as an orphan. No parents or family members, no one to go back to or someone to console me in my darkest days.
A huge pang of jealousy hit me. Skylar. She has everything, surrounded by people who love and care for her, to protect and console her in her darkest days, but I had no one. Not even someone to adopt me at the orphanage, I had to see all my fellow orphans get adopted and see new orphans coming in and out.
Although I never give a damn about this because I'm used to it, but moments like this makes me feel lonely. Moments when I feel vunerable and just hate my deceased parents for leaving me alone.
Feeling my face wet and my nose disgustingly running I wiped my face clean ending my pity thoughts, preparing to leave before sky starts looking for me.
Standing up to leave, my eyes unconsciously moved to the fountain where a strange figure stood behind the fountain. Immediately assuming it was Dan... I moved closer to the fountain and stopped in my steps when the figure growled and snarled showing off a pair of sharp fangs. Moving backwards I gasped in surprise 'did that thing's fang just glint' I thought. Turning around I raced back into the house carrying my none athletic body as fast as I could, not stopping to take a breath or to look back.
