The Client

"Reese," Kein greeted then pass-through Alistair to give me side cheeks kiss.

"Omg, are you really the one we're meeting?" I asked excitedly, looking at him with my eyes that can't believe.

"Yes, I guess." He chuckled answering my obvious question.

"How come? Your dad gave you responsibility this much? This is not a small deal, I assume." I respond still in disbelief.

I scanned him from head to toe. He's wearing a three-piece suit tonight which is unusual. Kein does wear suits but not as formal as this. I love seeing him wearing formal attire especially with the type of body he has, he looks dashing. This time, he's extra. His dad must have given him a huge trust.

"Yes, and why don't we sit first?" He gestures, I totally forgot we're here for a business meeting.

I sat on my original seat, while Alistair sat beside me and so does Kein which made them sit across to one another.

"How come you're dealing with the legal matters? Did your dad expand his venture?" I still asked enthusiastically. I just really can't get my nose out of this. I mean, it's a huge break for Kein.

"Yes, I must say. We're exporting devices for buildings and other construction. And we are changing legal teams, that's why." He explained with his gaze not leaving me a second.

"I didn't know that."

After uttering those words, I heard a clear of the throat which made me pulled back to the fact that I'm with Alistair tonight, with the purpose of meeting a client which is Kein but it turned Alistair into a stranger to us. I felt bad because I was carried away by the fact that Kein's now responsible for big deals that are usually entrusted with his older brother.

"I'm sorry, that was rude of me." Kein's excused the way we behave. Alistair then acknowledges it with a nod.

After that interaction, we've ran down to the business. I can't help but admire both of them because of the way they look and talk, they really are businessmen and professionals. Despite my admirations, I didn't fail to record all the important points of the meeting.

It turns out, Kein's family business expanded and they were actually partners with another brokerage firm but they have to cut ties because of the anomalies made by the firm.

After dinner, we call it a night. We all walked together out of the restaurant and I planned on booking a car. No one is responsible to drive me home.

"I'll send you home."

I slowly lift my head and gave Kein and Alistair a glance because they said it at the same time.

"It's okay, I'll call my dad or book a car." I politely declined the offer.

I don't want to impose either of the two and I already booked a car. Also, I wish not to choose, that'll be awkward. And, I'm used to going home alone though Kein always making sure to send me home when we are together.

"Don't bother, Kanalaa. You were with me, to begin with." Alistair uttered quickly.

"Mr. Manning, I'll take her home instead. Her house is on my way anyway." Kein's interjection.

My gaze is shifting to their places, ready to reject them. And as if on cue, I noticed a car approaching us which is the one that I booked.

"Really, thank you. But my ride is here. Get home safely."

I didn't wait for their answer and left them dumbfounded.

I'm an independent woman and I know what I want. I'm used to going home alone. I actually have a car but I chose not to use it but with what happened tonight, I might as well use it for my convenience.

The night went by with me resting as soon as I washed up. I didn't open my phone to check if there were messages and whatnots. It's been a long day since my first day to work.

The next day, I started my day by reading a few pages of my book, reviewing. I also have one book in the office so I can read whenever I have spare time. I've got no time to waste. I scheduled my board exam into the incoming one that made my review shorter than usual. I'm itching to finish it and work for real and take my master's or maybe go to law school.

After an hour of reading, I went down to the kitchen to eat breakfast. Started yesterday, my dad and I got to spend breakfast together since we both have to go to work at the same time. Unlike before that, he's gone before I am awake.

"Good morning, pa." I greeted my dad when I saw him in the kitchen preparing breakfast.

"Good morning, my princess. How was your work yesterday?" he replied giving me a morning kiss which I grew up in.

"It was pretty the same as my part-time jobs. Pa, you met Kein, right? I met him yesterday as our client." I told papa and continued to story-tell him what had happened and Kein's progress but of course I left out the personal part.

After breakfast, I started to prepare for work. I picked out a long white sleeves dress ending above the knee. Its ends are ruffled, while the torso part of the dress is colored brown creating a two-tone dress. And then, I paired it with my high-pointed heels and a sling bag.

I have tons of office clothes such as formal suits, however, I don't feel like wearing any of them today. I wanted to be a girly girl. I also wanted to be different, far from what is the trend. I can imagine how sore thumb I'll be today at the office. I never liked the attention but I also love it. In short, I wanted your attention but don't come at me talking. Admire and look at me from afar.

My makeup was done in the most simple yet stunning touch. I grew up learning how to doll up myself because just like the others, I've got plenty of insecurities that I must know how to cure.

When I was about to leave the house, I bumped with my dad again who's also off for the office. My dad has always been fit and he's still handsome to this day. You'll never know that he's in age already that makes him charm younger ladies but my age.

"Kana, your mom wishes to see you over the weekend." He casually uttered.
