Ash feelings was mixed, the princess had finally entrusted her with a task, but given the raw amount of the work the princess had done prior. it wasn't much different from being asked to cook dinner for an ensemble but being given the food and all she had to do was to go fetch it and deliver on the table while being praised for having done the entire job.
looking towards her brother she voiced her concern.
"Do you think the princess truly think that little of our capabilities that she had to basically prepare it on a silver plate, and still showed doubt of our ability to complete her request"
Desmond gave a vague shrug of his shoulders in return.
"The princess is used to doing everything herself, that she even entrusted any of the task to us is nothing short of a miracle
She spoke of the Boy Jack, I think it was likely her concern for this boy that caused her to rely on us as she is currently stuck in the demonic realm without the ability of completing this task on her own, we should bless our good luck that this is the case as it meant she in some sense got forced into acknowledging that we have some value, well after we complete this job that is, as it is clearly something she is invested in."
As they headed towards the address the princess had provided them Ash thought better of it.
"I have a feeling we will gain more value from visiting the library first, I am not sure but I trust my gut feeling on this one"
Desmond gave as hand motion that showed he acknowledged her suggestion.
"Likewise am I quite interested in what happened at the library after we left, she seemed distraught and not like the type that would go to a vampire bar on a whim without any cause"
as they headed inside the library, they saw the other librarian who immediately gave them an extremely guilty look.
"My deepest apologies but Kira was let go recently due to staff cut for the library, if you wish to find her, you would have more luck visiting her at home...."
Jane gave a slight pause.
"And if you do please tell her I'm truly sorry, I didn't think she would ignore my calls!"
Ash gave the librarian an extremely cold stare.
"If she was let go due to reducing staff and it was a higher up decision, why would You! be sorry?"
the lady flinched.
"Please follow me into the staff room, as you're Kiras friend you deserve to know the truth"
she whispered and after joining her in the little enclosed space Jane gave the full explanation how Jack had lashed out at home fighting back against his abuse, and his newfound self esteem had been blamed on Kira, and Since Jack's mom was one of the biggest investors in the library they had let Kira go as damage control.
Desmond looked intrigued.
"Would Jack's mom happen to be, Misses Lauren to lives in the rich people housing 7km from here ?"
The Librarian seemed surprised but nodded her head.
"Well then, that suddenly makes our job seem way less trivial, thank you very much for enlightening us"
Desmond said and gave a formal bow, watching how the girl blushed deeply.
"Now is there any chance Jack would be around here at the library today?"
The librarian nodded her head.
"His mom stopped by to confirm Kira was indeed gone, after confirming that she let him stick around as he please, he is the thin one with brown hair in the corner on the beanbag."
as they walked out of the staff room they both immediately spotted the kid, and they weren't all that surprised to find it was the kid who had blocked their path from entering the library.
"Hey Jack, do you have a few minutes?"
the kid looked up at them with confusion until recognition hit, then guilt.
"I'm sorry both of you, I prevented you from meeting Kira and now she is gone because of me!"
Ash knelt before the kid.
"Why would you think its because of you?"
the kid looked at Ash with a sorrowful smile.
"I overheard my mom screaming that she didn't pay them to them to be made to look like a fool, and if they didn't get rid of this bad influence would she find another place to help her with her taxes"
Jackpot Ash thought to herself, the kid likely didn't understand what he had truly just said beside knowing that it was his mom who made the princess loose her Job here, but it confirmed Kiras suspicion of tax fraud.
The princess had also written down she knew they were getting big donations, yet the library had never had the budget to afford any of the things she had requested regardless of how sensible, which she had found suspicious.
"Thank you little Jack, don't worry, the princess... sorry I mean Kira told us to tell you that she is still around and she will save you"
no contract was being formed as you couldn't use a proxy, it had to be her who said it within the ear reach of the kid itself, but it didn't matter much as they saw the bright hope immediately burn in the kids eyes.
"Why did you call Kira for princess?"
Ash smiled to the kid.
"Because that is what Kira is to us"
the kid didn't seem to notice the double meaning but replied.
"Also to us, The others are still upset that they couldn't thank her for the last gift she brought, everyone knows she buys them herself and brings, Tom borrowed some of the dice once because he couldn't afford his own and the next day she had just brought more dice without ever bringing it up, Tom felt guilty but also extremely grateful, and today he keeps it as his lucky dice.
She pretends they are library property, but she once forgot to remove the price tag that had receiving address on and it was addressed to her, not the library, however nobody have felt like playing knowing she is gone, its just not the same"
Desmond gave a wide smile.
"Kira is indeed a princess to all of us and we should feel blessed by her kindness"
Ash couldn't help but look at Desmond, what he was saying wasn't lost on her, they were discovering more about their princess every second here than they had learned through observing her or being around her at the castle.
but the more they learned the more agitated they both grew, their princess had given everything for her work and this was how they repaid her.
typical human scum.
walking back to the librarian Desmond didn't beat around the Bush.
"Dear, this is a public library and as such all documents in regards to income and expenses should be freely available to the public, is that correct ?"
The girl looked confused but after a bit agreed.
"Yes however the upper management seem to never be able to find the time to get the records uploaded to the net, and even if you request it might take a while as they are somehow always busy whenever the subject is brought up, Kira once requested them so she could get them uploaded but they always found something that kept them from sending them to her..
Wait her stash, you don't mean to.."
The librarian gasped.
"If you mean her thoroughly compiled list of things that was suspicious then yes we do"
Desmond answered coldly with a matter of fact voice.
"Won't you think of the children, if this library shuts down they will loose their refuge surely Kira told you that"
The librarian almost whisper shouted trying to avoid the kids hearing her.
Ash stepped up and put up a bit more compassionate front than her brother.
"We assure you our intention is not to shut down the library, but rather potentially help Kira expose a few flaws, that might possibly result in new management, we assure you that your position should not be threatened neither the kids daily routine"
The librarian gave a sigh of relief.
"Well I guess if anyone can do it, it's someone with the attention to detail Kira have always held, I just hope she will forgive me eventually and answer my messages, I tried to call her so she could hear the kids saying thanks for the new D&D ruleset and campaign she had gifted them but she didn't pick up."
Giving the Librarian a smile Ash spoke with a soft polite voice.
"Please don't hold it against her, I'm sure she isn't holding any grudges against you, but she is now off work. We took the liberty to bring her somewhere, with very bad reception but where she if she would allow us as she is very stubborn there are people who will tend to her and allow her to relax and recover from her ... exhaustion"
"Yes, thank you, must be nice to have rich friends, it is no lie that she worked too hard, so maybe getting a vacation would be good for her, thanks for letting me know!"
The librarian voiced with relief.
"Now only request we have is if you could possibly provide us the address for your headoffice, I am convinced Ash and I can be insistent enough that they couldn't possibly ignore our requests" Desmond said with a smirk
