We didn't win....we just didn't lose

A rhombus shaped crystal with the color of blue could be seen floating in air while spinning, the crystal was had the width of a door and the height of bungalow.

This is the planetary core, the being overseeing Earth's safety as well as improving their strength by creating the interface to assist the humans against the Invaders, it was the being that acted as a guardian for the earth, but it's current situation wasn't something to be proud of, as it was in a dire situation trying to delay what could be called death in its terms.

Why exactly had the core given zephyr the time limit of a minute?

The answer was quite simple when one thought about it.

The laser beam the aliens fired had only locked on to one point, even though it could do far much more damage if it were to cut through the earth, and yes.

it was locked on the body of planetary core.

What exactly is a planetary core?

Like the name says, planetary "core", the most vital part of anything, the core, the foundation, the origin.

The origin of a planet, what kept it stabilized, just like how your laptop wouldn't work without a power source, so was the planet to the core, a laptop with a battery would never come on and a laptop whose battery gets removed would immediately switch off, so was the case of the planet.

The aliens had knowledge on their enemies, but due the abrupt rise of an abomination, all of it went into disarray, and from what they observed, a drawn out war would only end in their lose, they decided to wipe them out by striking their most vital points, which was the planetary core.

With the destruction of a core, came the destruction of earth, which was exactly what they aimed for, but it wasn't like the core was also stupid.

Thanks to previous war, the concentration of Nova essence became denser, using this Nova essence, the core adjusted it's defenses, which it was now using to halt the advance of the beam trying to incinerate it, but it wasn't going to hold forever, and the core knew that too.

That's why it had accepted zephyr's crazy idea of destroying the cannon in a minute by open up a gap in space, but the plentiful Nova essence it used had come from the ones holding up the barrier causing it's effects to weaken faster.

The one minute signified how long it would take the laser to tear through the now weak defenses, before ultimately destroying the core.

The core still held hope after remembering the crazy feats the abomination had done, but it was all for naught as the cannon showed no signs of stopping till the last second.

[The human failed, maybe I expecting to much] the core thought has the laser approached it and then;

ZIIIN!!!

[AHHH] it shouted after feeling physical pain for the first time ever, but it was only brief as just a second after, the beam abruptly disappeared, the laser beam vanished, the human had done it.

A few seconds earlier

Zephyr could be seen jumping around the mothership in the form a black tiger as it evaded the laser beam trying to cut him in half, while moving towards the bigger cannon that was trying to destroy the Earth's core.

He lost his focus for a second as the bigger cannon came into view, and it cost him dearly as his whole hand was severed off, and that was him narrowly dodging by moving to the side which caused him to impale himself into the ship. If not, his body would have been halved, but what he didn't see was what happened next;

The laser has been locked on zephyr has its target, and because zephyr had been able successfully evade it, the laser had built up more speed, which allowed it to instantly catch up to zephyr as soon as he slowed down for a second, instantly severing his arm off, but;

Zephyr was just centimeters from the cannon when his arm was severed, but the laser hadn't been able to stop as it had built up momentum, which caused the laser to slam into the elder- which was pouring out a massive of condensed energy causing the mothership to blow-up.

Take it like this, what would happen if you hit in the stomach while munching food crazily in a food competition.

You're holding an hamburger in your left hand and a shawarma in your right hand, both been extra large size, and then someone hits you in the stomach.

You're mostly likely to either vomit or choke, either way it would throw your entire body system into chaos, which would either get you bedridden or even dead, that's what happened next.

As the laser beam of the smaller cannon struck the bigger one, it was interrupted for a moment, but that moment caused energy that was meant to fired out to abruptly halt, like how cars stop when a part of a bridge is broken causing the cars to stop which in turn causes the cars coming behind them to also and it continues until the road could be fixed

Which lead to a chain reaction till it reached the energy source and the installed appliances capable of transferring such energy causing them to expand and then;

BOOOM!!!

The mothership blew up from the inside-out, ultimately blowing up a chunk of the moon, killing off every alien in it and causing zephyr to instantly lose conscience.

"Huh?, what the-"

BAM! BAM! BOOM!

As soon as the mothership blew up, all aliens collapsed a second later, including the flying spaceships which were now crashing and blowing up from the impacts which caused confusion within hunter ranks at the sudden death of their enemy as the battlefield became silent, hunters were looking at each other as they observed they enemies at first, thinking it was some sort of trick, after some time some began their heads with sticks to see if they were actually, then they kicked them and stepped on their heads, smashing it, but still nothing.

Just as they trying to figure out what happened a voice finally spoke;

"So..... we won?" said a lanky c rank hunter as all others were all thinking along the same lines before another voice was heard;

"We didn't win, we just didn't lose, look around you" he said while pointing towards the wrecked buildings and the destroyed streets.

"If this is was winning looks like, then it's give my mouth a very bad taste, at the end of it all, we can only do only do one thing, and that is";

"To get stronger, remember this" he said as every hunter in the surrounding pondered on the words they just heard, and they found themselves agreeing to it, they couldn't call this 'victory', they just hadn't lost.

As they took in the significance of the words coming one of the world's elites, the now, L rank hunter Kang-soo Jin as they renewed their resolve to get stronger going forward.

"Why are you all standing around, spread-out and search for survivors!" Kang-soo said has he snapped them out of their reverie.

"YES SIR!" They simultaneously said as quickly organized each other into groups before spreading out.

The war between the aliens and humans had finally come to an end, but what this event would lead to being unknown to all.

Where did they come from?

Why were they here?

All these questions would be answered in time as zephyr keeps up with his impeccable ability to mess things up, for the future is unknown but that's what makes it exciting.
