"Yes, I'm more attracted to you than you are to me," she said without looking up. There was abandonment in her voice. She blushed and bit her lip. She really believed this and took responsibility for the comment, come what may. I was certainly not a good person to ask her to confirm her feelings, before confirming mine.

"You are wrong."

She must have felt the tenderness in my voice. Her eyes had become opaque, letting nothing through.

"You have no idea," she murmured.

She thought that I underestimated her feelings for me, because I did not know what she felt. But really, the problem was that she had underestimated me.
