Chapter Eight Chapter Eight

Le Bernardin was all Riley could ever ask for in a restaurant. " Even just the atmosphere alone was entirely perfect. People from different countries and of different race were wining and dining. There were smells of savoury dishes all around the building. It was perfectly lit, and the scenery was romantic.

"This is the kind of break i need to calm down and also to talk about my pregnancy to Marco", said Riley, as they both made their way to the VIP section of the large restaurant.

The VIP section was a secluded room where rich people booked, mainly for meetings or private dates for couples. It was quite expensive though, because of the top notch services provided. It had everything, private violinists who played classical music, you could request a private music concert, there was a private VIP lounge, and a bar room with literally any brand of wine or alcohol. Food was never a problem too, as there was a private cook who made food specifically for those who had booked the VIP section.

"This is so beautiful, Marco. Thank you for bringing me here. You've been a little lost in thought, anything wrong?", said Riley, as she took a seat.

Marco had been thinking of everything so far, the fact that he was a werewolf, the fact that probably she knew she was a werewolf too. He wondered what she wanted to say, and he was scared that if she knew, she might freak out.

"Marco? Hello.", said Riley, snapping Marco out of his deep thoughts.

"Huh? Um..Oh, nothing is wrong, i'm fine.", said Marco, hoping she won't keep on asking.

"How about we order our food now, then we could talk later?"

They ordered their food just a few minutes later. They both ordered Hasselback Tomato Caprese. It was one of the most delicious foods and it was Riley's favourite.

A few minutes later, they were both done with eating.

"Look, um..Marco, i..i want to tell you what the doctor had told me earlier today at the appointment.", said Riley as she pulled her hands together and started getting nervous, because she didn't know how he was going to react after she told him.

"Yeah sure, i'm listening."

"Um..Dr. Mike told me that i..i would be due in less than a week!, said Riley as she closed her eyes, as she didn't want to see his reaction just yet.

Marco was shocked at first, because he wondered how the doctor could have such information. It wasn't surprising though, they weren't humans after all, this was due to happen. What was just surprising to Marco was how the doctor knew when she was going to be due. They had visited other doctors after all, and none of these doctors had such information. The doctor had to know something, he knew it.

Riley was still closing her eyes. She was scared to see his reaction. Marco's silence just made her more nervous.

"Marco!", said that voice inside his head. It was his warrior wolf spirit, Tundra, startling him.

"Ughh..it's you again?", asked Marco, a little agitated.

"Huh?, were you talking to me?, asked Riley, who was looking down, as she thought that he didn't take the news well.

"No..No, i just think i have an acid reflux. I think i want to use the restroom, i will be back soon, okay?"

"Okay..said Riley, still nervous, wondering if she had said something wrong.

Marco got up and made his way to the restroom.

"What were you doing just now? Huh? You can't just startle me like that. That's rude, you know? What was so important that you had to interrupt?", asked Marco, perplexed, as he pulled his hair up and lean against the wash basin in the restroom.

"I just wanted to let you know how much you don't know about yourself. You are weak, Marco. You need to be strong. The world of your powers is far more than you realize. If you can't handle simple things like these, how are you going to handle more complicated things? How are you going to confront your enemies? Trust me when i say you have people after your life. Your own people. You are not even fully bonded. Do you have any idea what the werewolf pack does to people who are not fully bonded? You are not really a problem, at least you have bonded with your wolf spirit. But what of your wife? She is a wolf and she doesn't even know it. Wake up, Marco. You have to wake up and be strong.

Marco heaved a deep sigh. This has been really hard on him. Having to adapt to realizing the fact that he wasn't human was hard. But he had to be strong, for himself, and for Riley.

"You're right. Thank you, Tundra.", said Marco as he left the restroom to meet up with Riley who had been alone for about 30 minutes. He went to the place Riley was sitting in before he left, she wasn't there. He checked around and later saw her at the upper floor, staring at the deep blue sky.

He went over and held her by the waist which startled her.

"Oh, you're back."

Come over and have a seat, we need to talk, said Marco as he led Riley to a nearby chair to sit down.

Look..um, i understand everything. I understand that your pregnancy is different, and this may be a little surprising to you, but i promise that everything will be fine. I'm here for you, okay?"

Riley was happy. She thought that he wouldn't take it well, because what normal human gives birth in 2 months? She didn't even know how she even had believed this..that she was different, but she did anyway. Maybe it was because Marco was there to support her, so it never really crossed her mind that this was absolutely not normal.

"You don't know how happy i am to hear you say those words. Thank you for always being there for me", said Riley as she stood up and gave him a hug as she stared at the deep blue sky.

She wondered if anyone had noticed how pretty the sky was today, how the blue sky was bright and soft all at once. She wondered if he saw the serenity of the clouds that sailed by, gently passing on towards any place the winds wishes them to reach, wondered if he let his eyes rest upon the white tops and follow with infinite greys that blend so harmoniously with one another, almost bluish. Hoped that he felt a little of what she felt, a calm sense of awe as warm as sunny rays. Today had been perfect. She had finally cleared all her doubts and soon, she would welcome a new one into their lives.

I think we had better get going, so you could have some rest. You shouldn't be staying up late, Marco said as they both left the room and headed home.
