Chapter 1

SKRRRTTTTT!!!!!!!

The sound of the tires breaking the friction between the dark wet road as the car rotates off into a line of thick oat trees. The sound of the crash could be heard from miles away but luckily the red pickup truck that rammed its head into the small Honda was miles away from any living people.

The rain poured down fast as the wind violently shook the trees and a man dressed in all black stepped out of the red truck and into the darkness of the night on a mission, one mission, to finish off the couple that drove in the crashed Honda.

A little knife already stained in a dried coat of blood was in the man's leather glove that he wore on his hands as he stormed over to the car door ripping it open. The passenger side was first as the husband Edward Fazer laid upside down to where his back was relaxed nicely on the roof of the car. He had a fresh gash in the back of his head that leaked blood, he was surely dead, but to be sure another stab couldn't hurt.

"AAAARHHHHH," the wife just woke and the first sight she could see was the vivid picture of her husband's throat being slit open with a slightly rusted blade. Blood dripped all over the roof and covered his face with a nice shade of red and the wife couldn't do anything but shut her eyes to keep from seeing her husband in that condition. She couldn't move her neck it was frozen, no broken, there was no way she was escaping the car this way. Her legs stuck under the wheel and her back glued to the roof with the seat belt digging into her sides.

"Please, don't," the women cried in pain. She knew she wasn't going to make it out of the car alive but she could at least try. "Sir, please why would-," he made his way to the other side of the car and all she could see was hatred in the man's eyes. Nothing but death was written across his face and she knew exactly what this was about.

A month later in August

Ezra POV

"Today is the day," I thought to myself as I stood in front of the school doors clueless about my new surroundings. This was the first time I have been back to my birthplace in almost 10 years so I was excited not only to start my adventure on making friends but to surprise my best friend Aaron who had no idea I was attending his school this year. I told him that I was staying with my aunt just so I could see the look on his face when I just show up.

Me and Aaron have been besties since the day I was born with him being only a month older than me it was our whole lives. I thought when I moved away, that I would lose him but every summer or school break he would fly over to my home and stay the whole time just to see me, making us closer than ever. Yes, he was only six and traveling back and forth but his parents were my parents' best friends so they allowed it.

As I observed everyone walking in and out of the buildings I felt like an odd one out. My white hair stood out from everyone else's blonde, black, brown, or red hair and I would have felt even weirder if I hadn't forgotten to bring my brown contacts to cover my mood changing eyes. I guess this was my life of being a fazer after all. To hide.

I grip onto my bag and take a deep breath before forcing my way into the building where crowded hallways were my first obstacle.

"Are you new here," some random girl walked up to me offering to shake my hand. She was really tall and slim with long red hair and books all in one arm. She looked as though she could be a fairy but of course, she couldn't be a fairy because they aren't real.

"Hey," I do a little wave back, offering my hand as well as she shakes it with the firmest grip. "So new kid you need to sign up for my blog club."

I shake my head but I guess she missed the sign as she handed me a flyer from a purple binder she had tucked in her underarm. I just stood there awkwardly fidgeting with my hands. "Ok so, the first day of this club is Wednesday so please show up if you will."

"Yeah, yeah, but can you tell me where Aaron is," she looks down at me, and her eyes sparkle. "Omg, you have freckles, can you get any cuter," all I could think to do was smile as my face got all red from embarrassment. And the fact that she was only inches away from me now to where I could feel her breath on me.

"Oh and Aaron, don't waste your time on him he's a bad influence," she leans back out of my face. My head cocks back as I look her up and down with judgment intended. This was my first day and my best friend gets insulted in front of me. I was told from a young age that I had anger problems so the best I could do was breathe to avoid conflict. Which was hard because she kept going.

"Yeah, I heard he got a girl pregnant and was raped as a kid by his dad now he is in and out of jail a lot," I look at her as if she was dumb. And I'm not saying she isn't. Aaron never got a girl pregnant and that raped thing was just some lie. I couldn't tell if she made this up or someone else did but his dad was the best person in the world to him and me. Well until his dad passed some years ago and I still don't believe he has gotten fully over that, but he doesn't talk about it anymore.

"No, no he's my best friend, so no need to tell me who to hang out with," I snap but calmly to seem as if we were having a nice conversation as my veins pulsed rapidly on the side of my face. Then I heard someone calling my name.

"Ezra!!" I look over her shoulder and there was Aaron, my tall jock friend bolting towards me in a soccer Jersey. "Aaron, hey I was looking for you."

Before I knew it I was swept off my feet and into his arms. He was squeezing me so tight to the point where my arms were still by my sides. "I thought you played football," I ask gasping for air as he finally decides to put me back on my feet.

The girl beside me completely changed. Eyeing my friend up and down while batting her eyes as if she wasn't just talking about him. "Don't forget to come to my meeting it starts Wednesday at 8 in the morning," she smiles talking to me as her eyes still undress Aaron. "I'm Ally by the way," she grabs her red locks and starts twirling them but Aaron pays no attention to her and instead to the question I asked previously.

"I do play Football silly," he messes up my hair with his fingers before flicking me in the forehead, "I thought I told you I play more than one sport."

He hasn't seen me since summer so he was glowing from the outside with joy at the sight of me.

"Hey, why brown," he points to the contacts. He was a Faze just like me so he knew of my eye color pretty well and didn't like when I covered them even if I was in public. "Oh, my grandma said that brown eyes would bring less attention to my face," I smile smacking his creeping hand trying to poke me in the eye as some people start approaching us.

"Who is the new kid Aaron," a guy that was pretty much my height and a girl came over to ask. The girl was very pretty with her long black hair and dark blue eyes but there was something about her that felt off. I couldn't explain it but she made me very uncomfortable.

"Oh this is my best friend Ezra, the guy from out of town that I visit every summer," they nod theirs heads as if he talks about me a lot. Knowing him he probably does because before my parents passed, and I was forced to live here, he would call me while he was in a class all the time just to tell me what he was eating for the day and to make sure I was eating. It's hard for me to remember to eat when I played on my phone for hours.

"The guy is Payden and the girl is Eve," Aaron nudges me to shake their hands and my heart drops. My shaken hand extends from my body and out towards them and I feel Payden grip it with a squeeze. His eyes looked at me as if he was daring me to react.

I guess his friends didn't like me much.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It is 9 at night and I sit upon my bed scrolling through my family pictures in the dark as Aaron slept on the opposite side of me. My grandparents didn't like him very much but since he was one of us and they basically raised him along with me, they considered him family as well. Even when I moved he still stayed over at my grandparents' house to get away from his emotional mother. His mother really took his father's death really badly and became very neglective, distancing herself from her son and Aaron never speaks about it but I know it bothers him.

The blue light of my phone glowing on my face as I stare at a picture of Aaron and me and our parents. It brings a smile to my face as I see both of our parents smiling as we held a fish the size of our 5-year-old bodies.

"What are you looking at Ezra," I feel a shift in the bed as Aaron flips over to face me sitting on the edge of the bed. "It's just a picture of us holding a fish," I proceed to show him. "Do you remember that day," he shakes his head as I ask. "I just know everyone was so happy that day because it was our first time catching fish, five years before you know," he lowers his eyes thinking about his father as I shut off my phone.

"Come on Aaron let's sleep we have class, no need for sad memories right," I grab my blanket getting under it, as I scoot close to Aaron and sleep on his back for comfort for him and me.

I know it hasn't been long since my parents' death but their car ran off the road and all I can do is blame nature, so I let it pass but some people have it harder than others.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Early the next morning we sat in the newspaper room and I found myself doing everything. I was moving a desk around this big empty room carrying papers from one table to the next and setting up computers while Ally and Aaron stood in the back of the class flirting. Well Aaron was talking about food and Ally was doing all the flirting but they still were not helping me which was the problem. After standing up for him after the disrespectful things Ally has said, Aaron really forced me to come here.

I mean I didn't tell him what she said but still.

Sweat was dripping in my face and all Ally could say to me was more chores to do around her club room. I slam the last stack of papers on some beat-up table by the windows and they both walk towards me as if I had broken something.

"What now," I pant in frustration. "Is there more work you want me to do Ally, or is that all," I cross my arms? "Omg Ezra," Aaron blends down so we can meet eye to eye. "You are so cute when you are mad," he pitches my face as I hit his hands away still keeping my frown.

"I'm going on break," I roll my eyes storming out of the class into the halls. I was still new here so as soon as I walked away from the door I got lost and ended up in one long empty gray hallway that felt dense.

All I could hear was squeaking around me and a fresh scent I couldn't put my fingers on. It smelt really intense and made me sweat from the head down and I still had no idea where it was coming from.

"What are you doing here," I voice breathed down my neck as I jumped. "I excused your friend from coming into my territory because he is friends with Mrs. Fazer but I don't need any new wolves in my territory."

His whole face frowned at me. I notice how tall this man was and his silver eyes were like bullets that he narrowed at me. I could see a hint of a red tilt in his eyes. "Mrs. Fazer is my grandma and what do you mean wolf," he rolls his eyes trying to walk away and I grab his arm. I didn't even notice his friend standing right next to him to pull my hand off of him. "If you don't know what you are then I can't help you, all I have to say is I don't want to cross paths with you again,"

He walks off with his friend closely behind him as I look around confused.

"Hey," I get scared from another person standing behind me. "I just noticed that you were talking to Zayd and his friend Elijah and I just want to tell you that they are some really crazy people," this random wanna-be prince charming laughs. His hair was golden and his eyes were blue and his teeth so white I know he got them done. "Oh I don't know, he just wanted to give me directions back to that newspaper club," I awkwardly laugh.

"So do you know your way back," he places his hand on my shoulder as I shake my head. "Well good, because now I can take you, and I'm Liam by the way."

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I sit in my mythology class between Aaron and Eve and I feel an intense stare coming from Eve. She was just watching me as Aaron laid his heavy muscular body on me while the teacher was out. Usually, I would have asked her to look somewhere else but I was preoccupied with staring myself.

Staring at the roof because the guy I believe is named Zayd was sitting near me but his friend Elijah stared at me so heartlessly that I couldn't bring myself to look at them directly. I couldn't get the smell of the hallway out of my mind. Why was it so strong to the point of submissiveness. As I thought I couldn't help but run my fingers through Aaron's hair while he scrolled through his phone.

"Morning class," the teacher finally walks in an hour late which I'm not complaining about. We did have a couple more hours with him so it was a good time killer. Today was actually my first day in his class since yesterday I decided to go home early and sleep and since my grandparents were out, they never noticed. "Oh I see we have a new student can you please stand up and introduce yourself," I snap out of my daydream and look over to the teacher who was unpacking his man purse all over his desk. "And Aaron get off of him that's rude to pick on the new kid."

Aaron rolls his eyes at the teacher giving him the bird before sitting up. The teacher pays him no mind as he still wants me to introduce myself instead of writing him up.

"I'm Ezra Frazer and-," before I could finish the teacher interrupts me mid-sentence. "A Frazer huh," he starts, "You do know that dyed hair is not allowed in the building right." I nod my head and continue speaking. "My hair is very natural actually and if you want to see some proof I have some pictures from when I was younger," he shakes his head and I look over to Aaron who had his elbows propped on the desk staring up at me in awe.

"Umm I actually lived here before but due to some things, I moved when I was six," before I could sit from my introduction I hear Aaron making some noises. "Oh and um me and Aaron have been friends since birth, which is not important to add but whatever," I nod before sitting back down. I couldn't even sit properly before Aaron's big head laid back on my lap.

"Great," the class claps for me and I turn all red in the face. "Also the contacts are not allowed in this school either so you might want to get some glasses soon if you can't see," I look down at Aaron and my eyes get huge. "Anyway class I just want everyone to relax today because I need to make a phone call," he gives me a final glare before walking out of the class.

"Hey, Aaron look at this," Payden from his other side taps him and he pays him no mind. As I notice I look at Payden and he looks me up and down as if he was trying to kill me with his eyes. "Aaron," I tap him and he looks up at me interested in what I had to say. "Payden wants you," I point and he quickly sits up from my lap and looks at Payden.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The teacher never comes back to class so everyone gets up and leaves for lunch. I heard that lunch here was fancy and cheap so I was excited to see what they had today. Aaron was even happier than me cause when the bell rang he was grabbing my wrist and pulling me out the door before I could fully grip my things.

"Hey don't pull my arm off," we stop at the nearest table and I roll my shoulder to put it back in place to ease the pain. "Sorry," he rubs the back of his neck sneaking looks at the lunch line behind us. The line was short with only two other people in line. Payden and Eve weren't even here yet so I know we made it pretty early.

"I'm going to get the food you just sit here and make sure no one steals our table," I nod as he pats my shoulder before walking off. I roll my eyes sitting my things on the floor as I made my way to my seat.

It is awkward sitting by yourself. It feels like all the attention is all on you and I can't help but try and duck down but this fear was short-lived. As soon as I laid my head on the table someone was taking a seat right in front of me.

"Um, that sit is taken," I look up and meet the silver eyes once again. A mini smile forms on my face trying to play off my nervousness. "Oh hey again, I thought-," his friend cuts me off with one mean glare.

"Look I saw you talking to Liam and I wanted to tell you to stay away from him," I open my mouth to speak and I get interrupted by Elijah his friend folding his arms daring me to talk. "Liam is not the golden boy everyone says he is," and with that, they leave the table as Aaron walks up with two trays in his hands.

Why does everyone keep telling me who to hang out with?
