No one touched her without her explicitly telling her and that she was okay with them doing it. But having never danced before, she didn't know that they touched each other and stood so close. Well, she somewhat did from watching other people for about an hour, but still didn't prepare her for it anyway.
"Relax, I won't hurt you. Just follow my lead." The man holding her spoke.
'You should relax, does he know his heart is going to explode if it goes any faster?' She thought, scoffing slightly. Iesurdrar was still quiet. He was the quiet type anyway so she was used to it.
"Fine." She mumbled, looking away from the person in front of her. She was afraid that if she made eye-contact with him her eyes might change color. As the music started a slow song, she slowly moved with him, following his steps a few seconds later. It wasn't too hard, she got the hang of it quickly. Looking back at him, she stared into his black eyes, giving him a curious look. He was almost a head taller than her, she would look straight into his collar bone if she looked ahead. She was tall for a peasant woman.
"There, you got it. It's not hard." He smiled at her. She could tell he was trying to get her to relax a little, since she was stiff in his arms. Nodding her head, she looked around the room. Feeling eyes on her with evil intent, she glanced up at the second floor balcony, seeing a pair of greedy green eyes staring down at her. The woman was blonde- too blonde, and way too much, even from there she could tell. That woman just glared down at her, while a small frog-looking thing with fur stood next her, it went up to about her knee.
"Yeah, I'm new to this rich people stuff. Seems like jealousy isn't very uncommon huh?" She motioned her head to the woman on the balcony. When he turned his head to look, the woman who was standing there was gone. He guessed someone was jealous, anyone who knew who he was was jealous right now.
He chuckled, nodding his head slightly. She could feel that he was even more nervous now. With her better hearing she could almost hear the pounding of his heart on his ribcage. The poor man must be under some stress from his family. Now she was thinking about Ivana, she had disappeared for a while, now she was wondering where or who she was dancing with. She really did hope for the best for her friend, if she married rich her problems would disappear. But Cattaleya liked the simple life more.
It was a couple minutes of silence, they both looked at each other, just dancing. Mostly Cattaleya trying to make sure her feet didn't stomp on his, even though she really wanted to just for the fun of it.
"You know I can show you the second floor. To see- what did you do? Rich people stuff?" He joked with her after a long moment of silence. Staring up at him, she tilted her head slightly. Her curiosity got the better of her.
"Really? You could do that? I mean- I wouldn't mind it. Although I think they might throw me out the window even if I was with you. They're up there for a reason."
"And that reason is?" He gave her a skeptical look. Is this how most of the commoners looked at them?
"Because they don't want to mix with the others. You know, peasants and normal people. Obviously not you. But I don't know what they do up there, it seems more boring than down here. Probably all gossip too." She faked gagged, taking a step back from him when the song ended and gave a small bow.
Jameson gave her a look of surprise and pure shock. No one would ever speak their mind like that, even if he was just a normal nobleman. But she was different. When she started taking steps to walk away, he reached out and grabbed her hand. "Wait-"
She grabbed his wrist and grabbed her hand, ready to snap his wrist in two before a low growl came from the Shadowfox next to him. A small circle was created around them after hearing the growl. Her eyes turned white for a second before there was the sound of thunder from outside. Her eyes went back to normal as she flicked his hand off of wrist.
"S-sorry. Excuse me--" She stuttered, taking another bow and walking through the crowd. Iesurdrar was standing up now, glancing back at the Shadowfox before pecking Cattaleya's ear.
'Ow! I know, don't give me that look. We'll leave soon, I need air.' She thought. Iesurdrar understood before keeping a careful eye out. She had left the Prince standing there, alone on the dancefloor. Even people from the second floor looked out on the balcony. The audacity of that woman! The Prince stood there, looking at his hand before looking at the fox. They seem to have a conversation between themselves before following after her.
From the second balcony, from the back of the crowd, a dark figure watched the scene unfold. That girl looked like the daughter of someone he used to know. Someone he killed, some loose ends he tied up long ago. But now the knots were starting to come undone.
