White Powder

Noah jumped on the tied cloth, opened it, and spread its goods on the rug. It had a little nylon bag filled with a white powdered substance and two white cigarette boxes.

The moment I saw the powder I knew it was cocaine. The boxes I suppose are weed. Alex was staring at the goods in shock. He looked into my eyes. I was paranoid. Anxiety struck in my eyes, but I tried to keep hold of my body from trembling.

''Thank me later,'' Jack said.

''Whoa. Dude, I never knew you would get those.'' Noah eyed him suspiciously, ''where did you get these from?''

''A friend,'' he replied with a smirk.

''What's in the boxes," Eva said with wide eyes.

''Come on V,'' his eyes twinkled. ''It's your favorite.''

''Weed?'' Her tone shone with curiosity.

''Rolled in tight.'' He smiled.

She snatched one of the boxes and fiddled it. Everyone was just staring except for Noah who was now sniffing the bag of cocaine. ''Let's get high people.'' Noah said while taking a pinch with his hand.

''You know what they say,'' Eva cut in. '' A friend with weed is a friend indeed, and a friend who shares is a friend who cares.''

''Guys, are you kidding me. Jack is this some sick joke?'' Alex said.

Jack raised his arms in the air and pointed at Noah. ''There's a first time for everything,'' he playfully whispered.

''Dude we're fucked up either way. Let's have some fun while we're at it.'' Noah smiled at Alex.

''Yeah, I totally agree,'' Eva said lighting up a weed. She inhaled, and then exhaled great amounts of perfectly white smoke. I saw a tint of blue, but decided it was my eyes playing tricks on me.

''Eva…'' Josh started to say, but she cut him off.

''Babe. Don't be such a pussy take a sip this is so good.'' She smiled at him a shoved the roll in his mouth. He nearly suffocated and started coughing. ''See I told you it's good.'' She closed her eyes with her face towards the sky. Her voice seemed relaxed.

Noah placed the pinch in his palm. He stared at it. ''Hey Alex,'' he said.'' You don't want us to do this together?''

Alex shook his head,'' This is gross dude.''

''El?'' He looked towards me shooting me hot looks.

''Huh?'' I said coldly. ''No. I'm good.''

Eva burst out laughing. She laughed so hard I wanted to punch her. Josh took a roll and started it with a lighter. Max stretched his hand and took one too. Jake took a pinch of cocaine, rested it on his palm, and snorted it into his nose. He shook his head so hard, if I did that, it would have given me a headache for a year. ''Come on pussies. Try the good stuff,'' he said.

His eyes flashed towards Kim, who was staring with greedy eyes, ''Kimmy? Watcha doing?''

Kim didn't speak a word; all he did was taking a pinch of the toxic material and sprinkling it into his mouth. His face scrunched up, ''tastes like shit.''

Noah laughed. He snorted the toxic powder imitating Jake. He gave off a little ''Whoa,'' and lay on his back. Jack was massaging his forehead.

Alex stared into my eyes and said,'' Eleanor, I'm sorry I didn't know any of this would happen.'' He slowly sighed,'' If you want you can go, but I won't leave them like this. It's their first time… '' He was hesitating as if searching for words,'' maybe something bad happened…''

I cut him off and said,'' I'll stay with you. It's okay.'' He smiled at me and I returned the smile.

''You should chill,'' Jack said, still massaging his forehead. ''This is trusted stuff.''

Smoke tinkled in my nose. It was disgusting.

I heard a mosquito pass next to my ear. I noticed that my thigh was shaking furiously. Alex felt the vibration and gently placed his hand on my thigh. Red burned in my face. I felt heat spring into my body, but my thigh cooled down. This is sweet of him, I thought.

Noah stared laughing hard. Jack and Eva joined in. I took a cookie and started nibbling off the stress. Why are they quiet? I thought. Shouldn't they start talking stupid stuff or something? The group was just smiling with heads tilted upwards. Alex was watching like a hawk. More smoke poured out of their mouths. Now, Kim joined with the laughing.

My anxiety leveled up. My heart pounded heavily in my chest. I did another stupid thing, I thought. Why did I even come here? I don't want to be here. I want to be in my room in my phone drinking ice cold coffee.

I felt a drop of cold sweat slide on my spine. The laughing was harder now. It filled my ears and drummed in my chest. I closed my eyes tight. I didn't feel Alex's hand on my anymore, I couldn't feel anything. No, it's happening. No, please not now please. Laughter continued to echo in my mind. Out of the noise came a shrill hard toned laughed. I opened my eyes.

It wasn't Jack, or any of the boys. The laugh echoed again midst the teenage tones. ''Alex,'' I whispered while attentively scanning the area. He didn't reply. The laughter dimmed until only the hard cold laugh remained. I looked at Alex; he was frozen with no blink. The boys and Eva were frozen with no single, twitch, voice or move. Eva, weed in her hand, with the smoke fusing lightly. Jack with his head resting on his forehead. Kim smiling at the blue sky. Jack laying on the tree. Noah was sleeping on the rug looking anxious. Alex was wide eyed with his palm still on my thigh.

I knew what was coming next. Or even who is coming, I thought. Footsteps sounded behind my back. I stared at the group. Everyone was frozen, not a breath, not a twitch, not a sound. Only the smoke and the dying ambers.

''Excessive laughter gives me anxiety,'' a voice echoed from behind me. ''Don't you?''

I turned my head towards the voice.

''Elly! You've grown!''

Behind me was a tall black bearded man. He had flaming red eyes and a short sleek hair tied up in a ponytail. A silver earing shined on his ear. He was wearing a pitch black crown on his head with red diamonds on it. Black slippers fitted his big toes styled with black shorts and a black shirt.

''You called me Elly,'' I whispered. I felt sweat forming on my forehead.

No on calls me that. Only my Grandma does. I stared into his eyes. Behind that flaming red, I could see something tinkle in between the flames. What god are you? My mind whispered.

''Yeah, that's what your grandma used to call you. I love it. It's cute. Suits you.'' The man softly said.

I smiled at the ground. I felt my eyes tearing up. He kneeled towards me and softly raised my chin up. He looked into my eyes and said,'' Don't worry dear,'' he said. ''I'm taking really good care of her.'' I stared back smiling.
