Lucette sighed the nth time looking at the same L-shaped blue couch, a round table and a white carpet under it, a TV hung in the pale-yellow colored wall and the kitchen on the left side over the past few days.
At first, she found the house nice to live in, but as the days went by, she felt lonely. In the palace, she would always chat with Miranda, the royal chefs and some of the old guards.
The alpha put her here and went without return. It was not like she wanted him here but at least he would order someone to visit her from time to time. The situation made her think they cast her away.
Lucette took the cleaning brush to wipe the floor. Looking at herself, then at the cleaning brush, she gritted her teeth.
Pak! She broke the handle and threw it away.
As if working in the palace was not sufficient, she was doing the same here. Nothing changed. Leaving and abandoning her previous life was hard. She engraved her duties in her head unconsciously.
Lucette walked to the living room and slumped herself on the couch relaxing her head on it. She eyed the thick, black curtain that blocked the sunlight from entering the rooms, pursing her lips.
Since it was eleven in the morning, she would wait till sunset to go out.
Being stuck for days made her feel bored. All she would do was eat, sleep, watch TV and clean the house, the alpha's chamber wasn't included in it.
A few hours passed felt like a year. Lucette walked out of the house when the sky darkened. She wore jeans and a shirt with a black sweater above. The envoys that came with her handed her one suitcase containing clothes, accessories, and products.
Lucette eyed the dark cloud hovering in the sky. 'Maybe it will rain?' She wandered, observing her surroundings. There were not any houses near the one she lived in.
"It was surely his plan to keep me away from him or his pack!" she reasoned.
Since she was here and had so much leisure time, she would do her best to anger him without risking her identity to be exposed. Then keeping herself away from that man was the best choice to hide.
But she was the Luna. The title tempted her to try being the pack's leader.
No one explained to her anything, and no one even visited her!
Lucette walked for about ten minutes to find the houses which were lined opposite each other, with a narrow road in between. As she walked, the road turned into a Y-shape where many stores and larger houses were there.
A drop of rain fell on Lucette's cheek. She eyed the tearful sky and resumed her roaming. The rain poured heavily. Lucette went to take shelter under a lone tree with ramified boughs covered with green leaves. As she relaxed her shoulder on the tree's trunk, a man ran over to meet up with a woman and covered her with a black umbrella, the woman smiled as they walked together holding hands.
Lucette stared over. The sound of laughter at the house opposite where she was standing carried the warmth of a family.
Lucette's feeble smile didn't stop. The wind moved his wings, engulfing her in its embrace. "Even the wind didn't enjoy seeing me alone, so it came to accompany me," she murmured to herself. Her smile winded, and then she shook her head.
When the rain stopped, she headed back to her house, but couldn't find it. She stopped at a crossroads. 'Is it from this way or that?' Lucette went in the right direction.
A child fell beside her. "Are you okay?" she said, helping him. The child held his injured knee and cried. Lucette's eyes glistered. "Ray!" A woman cried from afar, snapping her from those useless thoughts. The woman took the child and stepped back.
"I was-" Lucette said, nearing the woman who retreated and his her son behind her. Lucette dropped her head and went away. The fear in the woman's eyes saddened her. She would never do a thing to the child.
She walked aimlessly. Her ears picked a low voice like sobbing. She went to check. Stopping by a wall of tall trees. 'Is the voice coming from here?' She stood for seconds but she didn't hear the voice again.
As Lucette turned around, she listened to the same sound, but it was much clearer this time. Walking into the forest through a narrow path between the shrubs.
The trees were long, leaning at each other to block the moonlight from surpassing them, making the dark forest look eerie.
Being a vampire, she could see clearly in the dark, but the rustling sound of the branches made her jump every time.
Lucette looked back to see a vast space of green shrubs and vines. She lost the way out! Lucette tried to remember the path she came from.
'The forest didn't appear that deep before?' She thought, frowning.
Lucette saw the bright moonlight from afar and thought it was the place she entered, just to be welcomed with the same place she was there before.
Lucette's brows knitted, looking up. Her eyes widened. A wolf, a giant one, at the peak of a small hill a few miles away. The wolf seemed unaware of her presence as it howled. The clouds swam in the sky, releasing the moon from their clutches as its brightness reflected on the wolf, making its brown, greasy fur glow.
Lucette stood there and stared at the giant animal, listening to its bitter howl. 'Its voice carried... agony!'
She watched this scene and thought the wolf wanted to talk about its pain or just want to be free from it.
Lucette watched silently, but the wolf turned and gazed in her direction. Lucette didn't know if the animal was seeing her or some other prey, but her stomach knotted, and her heartbeat increased.
The wolf walked over, showing his long and sharp teeth. Lucette gulped. She wanted to move, but her legs froze in the muddy ground. 'Move! Move,' she ordered herself as the wild animal was nearing her.
Lucette turned slowly and strode away, chanting, "Don't look back." Countless times. Her lips trembled. She glanced back, seeing the wolf speeding toward her.
She ran.
Lucette's legs carried her at her full speed, but the clicking paws on the ground were stepping closer with every passing second. Her heart hammered in her chest as she kept running without knowing where she would go.
Lucette turned her head just to see the wild wolf a few steps away from her. She lost her footing on the slippery ground and fell hard. She crawled to distance herself from the wild animal, but the wolf charged in her direction with an open mouth.
Sharp teeth moved closer to her face. Lucette closed her eyes and waited.
