"Father! It hurts! Kill her! Kill her!" Feng Zheng's eyes were bloodshot as he pointed at the woman pinned to the ground, his hair loose and disheveled.
The pain below his waist was almost unbearable. If it was compared to the injuries on his buttocks from before, it paled in comparison.
Magistrate Feng whipped his head around, glaring at the woman still held down by the guards. Through gritted teeth, he growled: "Lock her up in jail!"
"Yes sir!"
The woman was dragged away struggling, her hands and feet flailing: "I'll kill you!" She shrieked: "This is my revenge!"
The scene had erupted so suddenly that not even Su Chenyu and his friends had expected anything like this to happen.
With the case concluded amidst such chaos, Magistrate Feng had no time to spare. He ordered the officers to carry his son, following closely behind them himself.
Bystanders exchanged glances, then scattered when they saw the gates of the prefectural office close rapidly. There was no more spectacle to see.
"That woman is vicious—a single cut and the young master's ruined for life!"
"Right! That's so much blood! That thing will never work again!"
"That woman sure had a grudge against the young master. She went straight for his groin! Just looking at it makes me feel sick."
"Exactly! If that thing's broken, can he still be considered a man?"
"Hush! Be more quiet! The guards are still at the gate! If they hear us, it's over for you."
Su Chenyu frowned: "Cousin, this doesn't make sense! Why is that woman targeting Feng Zheng specifically?"
Wen Yuan said: "She looked a bit out of her mind. Maybe something upset her, causing her to act this way?"
Qibao recalled: "I remember her. She was standing right next to me. Feng Zheng must have done something, and she's here for revenge."
"If she's right, things won't be easy for this woman from now on." Xu Wenwu remarked.
"Many thanks to all my benefactors. Without your help, I couldn't have come to court and seen Feng Zheng fall like this. At least I can breathe easier now." Fen Tao's mother expressed her gratitude repeatedly.
"Auntie, it was just a small gesture. You should hurry home now! Uncle will be worried." Su Chenyu said.
"You're not coming back with me?" asked Fen Tao's mother.
"No, we have some business to take care of in Xuanyang Town." Su Chenyu replied.
Fen Tao's mother said: "Well, that's fine! I'll go back and tell my husband the news. If you need any help, please come to my house and find me."
Su Chenyu nodded in agreement.
After bidding farewell, Fen Tao's mother headed briskly towards home.
Wen Yuan asked: "Will Magistrate Feng retaliate against Fen Tao's family?"
Su Chenyu replied: "Leave it to Ye Feng to keep an eye on them. I doubt Magistrate Feng has time for anything else right now. After all, this is his only son, and they're probably worried about his family's future too!"
The group decided to stay at an inn, keeping their plans to themselves while they figured out why they'd been sent here.
"I plan to sneak into Feng Manor tonight." Xu Wenwu said: "Maybe I can find some clues."
"Sounds like a good chance to investigate." Su Chenyu agreed: "Feng Manor is probably still in chaos."
"Who's going tonight?" Jing Chen asked.
Qibao volunteered: "I'll go. I'm smaller than you guys, so it might be easier for me to go unnoticed."
Jing Chen added: "I'll go too! Cousin, you stay outside and keep an eye out."
Wen Yuan said: "Sorry to bother you, I only know a few punches and kicks, and I will only hinder you if I go."
"You stay at the inn and wait for us to come back." Su Chenyu said: "Aiya! I haven't been able to let loose in ages. This is perfect – I can finally show them what I'm made of. This is going to be fun!"
"Are you still not tired of all this, Cousin?" Jing Chen teased.
Su Chenyu laughed: "Heh heh! You're right, today has been quite eventful. I can't stop thinking about the look on Magistrate Feng's face when he got so angry he turned pale—how ridiculous!"
Jing Chen said: "Then Governor Feng must be hiding something. We need to find some clues tonight for sure."
"Right."
After discussing their plan, it was already noon. They went out to grab a bite to eat and returned to the inn to get some rest. After all, they had a battle to fight later that night.
By midnight, the streets were empty, and all the rooms in the inn were dark. Everyone else had already gone to bed.
Qibao and the others had already changed into their nighttime gear. Without turning on any lights, they quietly opened the window.
The four of them leaped from the second floor, making no sound at all.
Wen Yuan watched, deeply envious.
Luckily, the inn they'd chosen wasn't far from Feng Manor. The four of them felt their way in the dark until they reached the manor's outer wall.
This wall was at least four or five meters high, but for the four of them, that wasn't much of a problem.
Su Chenyu activated his qinggong lightness ability. With a single leap, he was on top of the wall.
He looked down and realized there was a rocky mountain feature right below him, along with the sound of running water. Not far away, he could see lights on in many rooms.
Su Chenyu gave a hand signal, and the other three joined him on the wall. Seeing there was no one around, they jumped down behind the rock formation.
Su Chenyu stayed behind, keeping watch from their original position.
The trio silently leaped onto a rooftop, lifting tiles to peer inside. The room below was brightly lit, but empty. Its contents made it clear this was a woman's space. They guessed it might be part of the courtyard where the girls lived, likely not holding any clues.
With feather-light steps, they hopped from roof to roof, checking room by room.
"Wahh! Master, Zheng-er's wound won't heal anymore!" They heard a woman's wails: "What will we do now!?"
The trio exchanged glances and carefully lifted a small section of tile.
Inside, the room was packed with people—mostly women, including servants and concubines.
Feng Zheng lay on the bed, moaning incessantly. Sweat drenched his face as he endured the excruciating pain.
Magistrate Feng looked even gloomier than earlier that day.
"Enough!" He bellowed: "Is this chaos not enough for you? Cry, cry, cry! All you know is to weep!"
The woman's crying stopped abruptly, startled by Magistrate Feng's appearance.
Seeing this, Magistrate Feng said: "You stay here and care for Zheng'er!" With that, he got up and walked away.
"Sir, where are you going?" the woman asked in a small voice.
"I'm going to find Liu Niang. I have something to tell her." Magistrate Feng left without looking back.
"Bitch! You are still seducing the master at this time!" The woman roared with gritted teeth, and then she picked up a teacup on the table and threw it to the ground.
"Mother, I'm in so much pain! Has my Father given up on me?"
The woman heard this and dried her tears. She rushed to the bed, grabbing Feng Zheng's hand: "Zheng'er, bear it a little longer. I know the pain is awful. Your father, he's just angry right now. Don't worry, I'll make sure the ones who harmed you pay!" A fierce look flashed across her face.
Hearing all this, the trio quietly put the clay dish back in place. They followed closely behind Magistrate Feng, making sure to avoid the maids and servants along the way. But with their skills, it was impossible for anyone to spot their shadowy figures.
