Just like Duke Reed mentioned yesterday, he will call for a tutor as soon as tomorrow, which is today.
We're currently at the mansion's library, in front of Professor Mergid, who's in his 60s and teaching us EVERYTHING. Literally EVERYTHING.
How is it possible for him to store all of the information and knowledge in his head?
"Avriella, are you listening?" I looked straight to him and nodded, "Alright, then I'll continue."
He is strict. Throughout the lesson, he wants us to focus solely on him. Regardless, he is a good lecturer who doesn't mind that his students are orphans with no class.
Each day of the week we learned about different subjects, Arithmetic, Manners, History, and Language.
"Would you mind if I asked what career you'd like to pursue, Avriella?"
Suddenly?
"Um... I'm thinking of becoming a journalist or an author."
I've always imagined that if I write an autobiography, I'll be famous for it because I went through so much as a child.
"Oh, I see..." He then turned to Mia and asked, "How about you, Mia?"
"A physician."
"A Physician... Is there a reason why?"
"Because my friend often gets in trouble and hurts herself, so I want to be the one to treat her every time she's hurt," Mia said, nodding.
As soon as they looked at me, my face flushed.
Is it my fault I get injured every time?
The rest were asked the same question as well, Caz, Noah and Kye answered that they want to become part of the Duke's knights.
Duke Reed's order of knights is one of the most well-known in the world; they are notorious for being cruel to their foes and constantly bringing honor to their country, Helwyn.
"How about you Ara?"
"Finally!"
She was the last one the professor asked, she was waiting for the professor to ask her.
"I'd like to work as Avi's assistant!"
"Huh?" I blurted out. I looked at her with a shocked expression, "Why would you want to devote yourself to me?"
"What are you on about? This is what I want, not what you want, so I'll do what I want." She stated with certainty.
I locked my eyes onto her, but why?
"Argh! Will you please stop staring at me? Professor! Continue teaching your lesson. Avi is no longer paying attention!"
I immediately looked at the professor and unconsciously, a smile was plastered on my face.
Because we only have two years until the grand exam, our lessons are at least eight to ten hours long.
The Grand Exam will be where we will be evaluated in order to prove our knowledge to the country. We were awarded a certificate after passing the assessment, and that certificate is our ticket to a profession. As soon as we receive that qualification, we will be able to focus on advancing our careers and finding work.
It is not necessary for the boys to take an examination because they will become knights of the country, but they insist on having even a smidgeon of knowledge.
"That concludes our lesson for today, make sure to do some research about the different languages used in Helwyn, particularly the two most well-known. Avi, it will be of great use to you in the future, especially since you intend to pursue a profession as a writer."
I nodded, remembering what he had said. I'm not sure if it's something to be proud of, but I'm good at remembering words. As long as it is audible, I can memorize any word that is thrown at me.
It's only 4 in the afternoon so we decided to have a break before helping the maids in their chores. It's already in our nature while we're here, because it's the only way to pay off our debts for the time being.
We head to the kitchen and ask for a few loaves of bread which they gladly offer us. All the workers here are friendly despite us being orphans.
"Thank you!"
We headed to the table and ate there for a few minutes.
"Where will you go?" Noah asked, pertaining to where we will do our chores. We have different duties to do every day, such as helping in the kitchen, laundry, and the garden.
"We'll help the maids to get the blankets hang outside and help them iron and fold them. What about you?" Ara answered.
We were walking down the hall and came to a halt as we reached the stairs.
"We'll go to the garden and assist the gardeners with trimming the shrubs and watering the plants." Caz responded.
"Then we'll see each other later."
We waved our hands goodbye as we went our separate ways.
I know we should be researching the languages, but chores are something we have to do. We had previously planned to manage our time by going to class, then doing our chores, then eating dinner, washing up, and finally going to the library to study.
It may appear exhausting, but that's good with us. We need to move our bodies as well, therefore completing housework is our workout.
"Are your classes done?" The maid Ihre asked as soon as she saw us walking towards them.
They each had their own baskets in which to place the blankets. We dashed over to them and assisted them in obtaining the blankets.
"Yes."
"How was your first day?" Another maid named Iza asked.
"It's good, though there's already a lot of information running in my head. Nonetheless, it's fun." Ara answered.
Right, I forgot to mention that Ara and the others spent two months learning how to read and write. That occurred while I was being treated for a head and knee injury.
"Avi,"
I looked at Ihre as soon as I heard her call my name, "Yes?"
"How are you doing?"
"What do you mean? ", I ask, my face perplexed. "I'm doing well."
She gazed into my eyes, as if attempting to see beyond what she saw.
I chuckled, "If it's about my trip back home, then yes, I am good. I didn't expect much from that father of mine though. You may have seen me yesterday all crying and sobbing under the rain, but I assure you that I am alright. As long as I have my friends with me, then I will always be fine."
"Aww!" Ara hugged me tight, followed by Mia.
The maids are giggling at the sight of us three being attached to each other, which made me blush somewhat.
"Stop! Let's get this done." I gently pulled them aside and quickly grabbed the blankets and stuffed them into the baskets.
"Why are you being shy? We've been together for half of our lives already. HAHAHA" Ara laughed along with Mia.
"Just get the chores done!" All shy, I exclaimed.
They continued to do our chores, and while at it, they still continued teasing me.
