Chapter 14

It's a little far, but we all noticed a silhouette in one of the rooms facing this direction.

If I recall correctly, that is my father's office.

"Let's go. Hurry." I said as we walked away from my mother's grave.

Before following my friend's pace, I looked one last time at my mother's grave and the mansion where we saw a silhouette. We ran away from mother's grave as if someone was chasing us.

""Does that look like your father?" Ara asked.

"Who knows..."

We decided to take a break at a nearby pond after we left. We came across a large tree that provided us with shade from the scorching heat of the sun and decided to rest there for a while.

"Ahh… this is why I love trees…" Noah said as he sat down.

"Ahhh... I love the wind there in your mother's grave." Caz pouted and lay on the ground, using Mia's legs as his pillow.

I walked towards the pond while they were sitting under the tree, oblivious to the heat on my back. As the water continued to flow, I watched it sparkle.

The breeze at my mother's grave was fresh and cool, and it was a pleasant place to stay. Unfortunately, we won't be able to stay there for long, not only because of the mansion near the grave, but also because we were afraid that guards would catch us hanging there, especially since that location was only authorized for nobles.

I was actually worried after finding out that someone has been staring at us. Who knows how long he or she has stood there staring at us.

"I know, right?" Ara used Noah's legs as her pillow, "What are you doing there, Avi?"

I'm looking at the glistening pond, hoping to see a fish, but all I see are tadpoles.

Should I take one and toss it to Ara?

"Look there's a tadpole!" I pointed to the pond like a six-year-old.

Ara looked at me with disgust, "Come here, it's too hot there. You'll get sunburned."

Nah, she'll beat me up, I'm sure of it.

I turned my back from the pond and sat in between Kye and Mia. They were both space out while looking in front.

I guess the heat makes you spaced out.

"Ahh... we should have brought some nibbles..." Ara sighed.

She's one big eater as well. She's hungry despite the fact that we only ate two hours ago.

I looked at her and asked, "Should I go buy some? There's a bread stall and ice cream parlor near here. Do you like some?"

"Really?!" Her eyes sparkled as she gazed at me.

I nodded. I stood up and fixed my dress. I looked at Kye whose eyes are now closed, "Hey, come with me."

"Why?" he asked as he slowly opened his eyes.

"I won't be able to carry it all by myself." I stated.

We're a group of six people; does he really believe I can hold both ice cream and bread in my slender arms?

"Ask for a bag," he said as he closed his eyes again, but I flicked his brow, causing it to furrow.

He looks annoyed.

But who cares?

"There are also a lot of inebriated people there; who knows what they might do to a gorgeous person like me?" I showed him my lovely eyes and sweet smile.

"Just go with her," Mia murmured, her eyes closed.

II knew she'd say something like that because if it's not Kye, it'll be her. I guess she just wants to rest after running away from the graveyard.

"Who are you kidding? Ha..." He stood up and wiped his pants, "Let's go."

"We'll be back!" I waved my hands.

"Ahh..." I stretched my arms as we walked towards the stalls. I looked around and noticed a lot of kids running around, playing tag.

That must've been fun...

"Why are we buying snacks in the first place? We only ate a few hours ago?"

"Why are you surprised?" I simply answered.

We started at the bread stall, where we bought bread with various fillings. As we headed towards the ice cream stands, I was the one holding the bag of bread.

Kye instantly drew me towards him as we strolled. It's a good thing I didn't fall.

"Stay close," he urged, peering forward.

"At least pull me gently." After he began to walk faster, I rolled my eyes at him and matched his speed "Why are you in such a hurry? Are you starving?"

Oh, it rhymes.

"Idiot. There are a lot of people waiting in line for ice cream. It will take a long time to wait for it, so why not hurry up?" He rolled his eyes and accelerated his pace once again.

I jogged to keep up with him until we arrived at the ice cream stand.

The line was indeed long, fortunately, it's not a one man shop.

It took a few minutes 'til we were the one buying for the ice creams.

"I'd like six strawberry flavors, please." I told the vendor.

"You're not from around here, are you?" the owner asked and I nodded, "it's my first time seeing your faces."

"We're here for a small trip." I answered as I watched the other serve our ice cream.

It looks so delicious.

Our ice cream arrived a few minutes later. Three ice creams were in my hands, while the other three were with Kye.

"Let's hurry. The ice cream will melt!" I said and we briskly walked back to where my friends were.

As we go back, I put on a happy front. I'm not sure why, but this felt amazing. It's great to be away from the Duke's mansion for a while.

"Finally!" Ara said and grabbed the bag of bread and one ice cream from my hand. Mia grabbed the other and the last one was mine. Kye's ice cream was handed as well to the boys.

We remained seated under the tree as we spaced out as we eat our snacks.

"Haa..." I let out a deep sigh.

"Why?" Noah asked.

"Nothing, I just sighed." I answered.

Of course it was not just nothing. As I spaced out, I realized I was looking at a family. The parents were playing with their young kids.

"What time is it?" Mia asked.

"About 4:30pm, why?" Caz answered.

"Nothing. By the way, we should take our time here. Let's visit different places and build some memories, okay?" Mia said out of nowhere.

I looked at her and nodded. She's just busy eating her ice cream and bread.
