“Hi, Miss Kendra, Miss Margaret. You were calling for me?”
Kendra was discussing with Margaret in her office when Blaire knocked and spoke to call their attention. They both looked at her and gestured for her to come inside the office and have her seated.
“I just heard the reason behind Mr. Sebastian’s request about you, Blaire. I didn’t know he made that kind of condition just because he found you too guilty for that incident,” Kendra said. “Did he do something weird to you while you were assigned to his unit?” she asked.
Blaire shook her head. “No, Miss Kendra. He didn’t do anything weird. Although he requested me to be the one preparing his meals and he also told me that I should be the one who’ll be his housekeeping staff whenever he stays in this inn,” Blaire answered.
Kendra arched her brows but didn’t say anything.
“Well, if it’s his request, we will follow it. if he does anything, or if he becomes a bother to you, inform us immediately, okay?”
“Yes, Miss Kendra. I will.”
“Anyway the reason we called you is that we wanted to inform you that there has been a change in the shiftees.”
Upon hearing those from Kendra, Blaire straightened her back. She didn’t say anything but it could be seen that she was curious about what will Kendra say next.
“I have decided to put you in the morning shift, assigned on the sixth floor,” Kendra said. “Is it alright with you? You’ll have the 8-2 shift,” she added.
Blaire smiled and nodded. “Yes, Miss Kendra,” she said.
“Okay, this may be sudden for you but you will start your day shift tomorrow, okay? You don’t have to work tonight so you could rest before starting your shift.”
“Yes, Ma’am.”
“Okay, you’re dismissed.”
Just like she always does, Blaire bowed her head first before heading out to the door.
As soon as she closed the door, Blaire sighed. Not as a sign of depression, but as a sigh of relief.
She was relieved that her shift became shorter and she transferred to a day shift, allowing her to have more time for the rest of the day.
‘I can now look for a job that needs a night shift,’ she muttered.
It’s not that her current work as a housekeeper doesn’t pay her well, in fact, the inn she’s working for offers one of the highest work pay that a housekeeper could receive. However, she wanted to have another job because she wanted to save more money so she could pay the debts of her parents.
Days after her reunion with her family, she learned that her parents have lots of debts and they come to their house knocking every day to collect their payment. And since it’s been months since their due, the interest on their debts will continue to increase the longer they completed to pay off the debt.
Unfortunately, their debtors are known to give high interest to those who couldn’t pay off their debts immediately.
She almost teared up when she remembered how her mother told her not to hesitate when she needs money, even though they are the ones who needed the money the most.
Since she just ended her shift this morning and she won’t be working on her usual shift tonight, she decided to get some more sleep in the apartment.
It was 11 in the morning when she woke up. Blaire prepared herself and ate the food that Ginny prepared. Ginny’s new shift started a week ago where her shift starts at 10 pm and ends at 1 in the morning. All the staff at the inn are aware that Ginny is a working student so Kendra and Margaret usually give her the graveyard shift, with only half the total hours of shift their regular employee so she still has time to study and rest.
As a result, their cooking schedule changed; Ginny will be cooking for breakfast and Blaire would cook at lunch. Their dinner would be the leftover food during lunch so Blaire would cook food that is enough until dinner.
Blaire strolled within the city to look for any available job but to no avail. However, since luck’s on her side today, after hours of searching, she found a job hiring for a cleaner at a hostess bar.
“Are you sure you are not applying for a hostess?” the bar owner asked Blaire.
“Yes, sir. I wanted to apply for a cleaner,” Blaire answered.
She was being interviewed by the bar owner and the latter looks disappointed when he heard Blaire’s response.
“Miss, your beauty shouldn’t be in the cleaning area. That should be displayed in front of every man! They should be fighting to get you to pour their drinks and accompany them as they stay in this bar!” he exclaimed.
Blaire felt slightly embarrassed with what the owner had said. The way he praises her beauty sounds like her father comparing her to a goddess when she was still a child. But she knew better, she knew that the man in front of her was just exaggerating things so he could recruit her to be a hostess.
“Sir, I don’t think I am confident enough to be a hostess,” Blaire said while giving an apologetic smile. “And I am not good at interacting with other people so I don’t think being a hostess is the right job for me,” she said.
The bar owner crossed his arms and sighed.
“You know, you’ll never know that unless you try,” he said. “Are you really sure that you wanted to apply for a cleaner? This is a bar, you know how people get dirty with all their stuff, including the way they use a restroom,” he added.
Blaire smiled. “Of course, sir. I may not be confident at interaction but I am confident with my cleaning skills,” she said.
The owner sighed again.
“If only we’re not that desperate to find a cleaner, I wouldn’t accept you just to be one. Anyway, you’re hired. Your shift would be from 10 pm to 4 am, and you can start working here tomorrow. Got that?”
“Yes sir,” Blaire stood and bowed. “Thank you so much!”
The owner smiled. “Come with me, I will give you your uniform. You can adjust its size so it could fit you.”
He went to show her the locker room of the staff and he pointed to her designated locker. He then gave her the uniform before dismissing her so she could prepare for her shift tomorrow.
