Chapter 39

Duke Morme agreed and they prepared another team who approached the army with a white flag raised.

Duke Morme stopped outside the enemy camp with the two riders that accompanied him. They waited until a lone rider left the camp with a white flag raised as well. It was Caldor.

Caldor stopped his horse close enough for the two opponents' horses to smell each other and become acquainted.

“Good morning Duke Morme.”

“Good day,” Duke Morme replied. He did not make small talk but got straight to the point. “Have you considered your options?”

“I still am,” Caldor replied. “I have not yet made a decision.”

Duke Morme’s face showed his frustration. “The assassination attempt in Osim has been averted.”

Caldor shifted uneasily in his saddle. Morme could tell it was not comforting news. He did not think that Caldor wanted a war but was uncertain of how to surrender without losing face.
