Chapter 50

The place had been marked as a crime scene. Then she heard voices.

“Did you hear that?” It was a man’s voice.

“Yeah, it came from over here.” Another voice approached and before Shay could think of hiding, a police officer came to stand by the door peering into the room. In his hand, he held his service revolver pointed at the floor which he quickly raised and pointed at Shay.

“Where did you come from young lady? This is a crime scene.” He spoke sternly but his brow was furrowed in confusion as he tried to understand how this girl could have entered the room without him seeing her sooner.

His eyes flicked uncertainly from Shay to the portal that seemed to float in the air behind her. His brow furrowed in confusion and perhaps fear or uncertainty.

“Who are you?”

Shay looked back at the officer uncertainly. “Please officer. I am not armed. What happened here?”
