"You died," declared the woman in front of me.

'...'

Where did this woman come from?

Although the woman's tone was soft, no tone of compassion could be perceived. Her stoic expression seemed unshakeable, although her face was beautiful she resembled a doll or robot without feelings.

And what about "died"?

I remember that today was a Friday night, the national holidays were celebrated during the day and at night people enjoyed the streets doing the same thing as every year.

And me...

Sitting in a recliner, playing video games.

Not every day you can enjoy perpetual silence, so take advantage of that moment to do what you loved most. I had already forgotten what a keyboard felt like.

Then I see a glow and now I'm here...

'Can you repeat what you said?' I tried to keep the tone as natural as possible. I had no idea what this woman was looking for.

"You died"

'...'

I gave her a nod for her to continue explaining.

The woman understood my signal and took out a notebook.

"You died... lightning, Boom, pierced the skies and killed you. Ugh, there are even pictures in here"

'...'

The woman showed me the image of my body. It didn't seem to be in bad shape... at least it was complete.

It was a little charred in places but nothing more.

At least it was an instant kill arguably a bit merciful.

"Then there was a fire," the woman continued to explain without changing her expression. I show the remains of my house, I did not worry too much because my parents had died a few years ago, so there was no one to worry about.

'...'

Well I guess it's normal for my house to burn down, right?

Some trees are reduced to ashes when lightning strikes, my house was partially made of wood so I shouldn't be surprised. But what I couldn't explain to myself was why there were remains of a truck.

Sensing my gaze, the woman's expression changed slightly but she returned to normal in an instant.

The woman sighed slightly and continued.

"Before your house burned down, a truck crashed into your room..."

The woman unconsciously averted her gaze.

Why does this sound so familiar to me?

Although she wanted to find some logic in it, she couldn't. First of all, my city has never been struck by lightning in its entire history.

The truck thing is even more ridiculous because my room was on the third floor.

But what can I do?

Even if I get upset with this woman, I won't gain anything. For her to be able to bring me to this space after my death means that she can control my soul or even she is some kind of Goddess.

I saw some hints of guilt on her stoic face, and I relaxed a bit, at least this woman is not vicious and cruel... I hope so.

I looked at her and said.

'Well... what will happen now?'

The woman looked back at me and continued.

"You know the protocol, you are going to reincarnate... but the path you should normally follow is in "maintenance"

The woman pointed to the distance, a road that emanated a sacred aura was with some kind of barrier.

"So you must take the back door," the woman pointed down a gloomy path and some screaming could even be heard in the background.

'I don't have a choice?', she asked nervously.

"None," the woman quickly replied. Apparently her sense of guilt didn't last long.

*Sigh*

I got going, the woman's tone left any chance for discussion. I swore in my heart that if I managed to survive, I would come back for this woman and get all the answers.

Don't look back and continue down this sinister path until you find the end.

...

The woman trembled slightly when she saw that man walk away from her. Somehow her instincts screamed for her to do something or she'd regret it, but she couldn't do anything…she was just a pawn of someone stronger.

...

I reached the end of the road, there was a cliff as black as pitch. There was no way to check what was beyond this one, the only way was to personally inspect it, somehow the path I traveled had disappeared, it was just the two of us, an abyss waiting for her next visitor, a needy lover. And I was the prey, there was no doubt about that.

I took one step, then two, and the abyss embraced me... somehow I liked her company.

....

'...'

'Am I really alive?!!'

HA... take that damn bitch.
